TED TALKS LIVE Short - When The War Ends
This is the Pigmalion or Rosenthal effect. Through experiments they demonstrated how we behave according to how we are expected to behave, because we are social beings and want to adapt ourselves to what we are expected to do. So if the teachers or parents expect the child to misbehave, finally the child will. In both directions, possitive or negative. Not anyone should be able to be a teacher, they should have psychological tests and training. Most have so many traumas themselves they can only give shit to their students. Same with parents. But when you are paid to do your job as a teacher you should not allow yourself to pass your own issues to your students. And, one more thing, I am sorry, but after the last statement in this video I can't understand how people there to say the US is the country of opportunities. The country of opportunities for some, like so many other countries. It is not any especial at that point. So why they keep saying it like a tantra

What I viewed was a reason to restructure our educational system. This system destroys children and later on destroys men and women. We need something designed to teach and give them a reason to want to learn. The bias comes from the system.
This man had racial motivations. We are not from Africa. His studies were to stereotype us; with the “Out of Africa Theory”. We are Original Americans.
wow this makes so much sense to explain why kids (bipoc, adhd, asd spectrum, etc.) receive inappropriate and incompetent treatment from "expert" authority figures at school which leads to trouble at school and at home which leads to a "vicious spiral" of negative feelings about themselves and anti-social behavior that comes from the hurt they've experienced and feel inside. Excellent video, very enlightening!
Unconscious bias comes from stereotypes, and stereotypes comes from the media
I quite frankly disagree with your opinion and believe that children with special needs often get better care and attention. In fact, some special needs children enjoy this type of treatment, which is widely distributed among family and friends and complete strangers at that. Also, it is unconscious bias that is being talked about so the definition of that is that it is not actively being discriminated against but rather 'unconscious' but it's still there.
Awe 💜 Tony 🕊️ Vikki & Jenni 🥰
Im so sorry for you
Awwww, that's sad. I'm sad this comes from truth.
what your reaction this video
So sad. Ya know what was missing from this story? A father. Kids who have a mother and a father raising them somehow are able to avoid this "unconscious bias". It's really weird how that happens. We need to start having this conversation.
Actually, I disagree, my husband and I are currently walking through this treatment with our son. He just has an advantage of both parents being willing to stand in the mud with him. To put a name to the issue and call it what it is. Honestly it is more common than you can imagine or may want to imagine. There is no avoiding preconceived notions or stereotypes people may hold. The real conversation is talking about this with all honestly how we all have some form of bias and our need to be self aware of this. While also challenging ourselves on why we believe what we believe and how we may be intentionally harming others and in this case children.

i wonder how many of these experiences are from children who dont have fathers in the home?
Probably less than you think
Unconscious bias happens more often in the real world.
I'm so proud of you guys.
WHAT ABOUT THE FACT THAT THE TEACHER WAS BLACK????
This is NOT about unconscious bias. You start with this nameless, faceless teacher that is singling out a student for "some reason" that is not explained. But we have to ASSume is is because he is black? So being a minority is the cause of ALL reactions of others to this student? Ridiculous. I noticed there was no father in that home. But, of course it is the fault of the, presumably white, teacher. This video is TERRIBLE. Shame on those who produced this. TED talks, wake up.
This is so cute!!! <3
tears in my eyes watching this. it's good to be aware of things, especially since this is said to be unconscious. I hope it will change soon for the better
Notice how they never show what behaviors the kids are getting in trouble for constantly in the video (like shoving someone into a locker)? And the absence of fathers in the homes? Minority communities are plagued by fatherless households the most, and all behavior starts with parenting in the home. A mother will nurture their child, but only a father can reign them in with the proper level of discipline and guidance for life.
This is a very ignorant comment.
@@andreahanson46 Really? How so? I thought I was being pretty observant. Can you articulate on it, please?
@@Navesblue As statistically accurate as minorities being plagued w/absent fathers may be, assuming that particular or majority of the ones around you have absent fathers (and is carrying this chip on their shoulder) is a bias in and of itself. Also assuming every mother is the nurturing type and that every father feels it's their job to carry out the discipline/guidance role is a huge bias, no matter is its "hunter-gather", "evolution" or "human nature". Humans defy and have the ability to defy their "rigid" nature. Having expectations for other people who you know nothing about is a bias. Not that it's wrong for it to cross your mind or make assumptions, but it's when you act on and preach those assumptions and expectations. It limits your worldview.
@@brookethomas5158 Granting you that yes, humans are malleable to a degree and some do defy classic evolutionary gender roles, the vast majority of them still adhere to them by their very ingrained nature. I'm not being "biased". I'm just observing a statistical fact of life.
@@Navesblue so we are no more to animals? Y’all are always saying humans are more than animals because we suppress our urges. But you’re saying we don’t. Also stop hiding of your disguise of an “observation” when it’s clear that you’re just racist. “oH iTs jUst aN oBsErvAtIon” clearly a bias one. You aren’t fooling anyone. You already show conscious bias bringing up those racist statements

this is straight bullshit, people.
Exact same thing happened to me still happening actually and I'm white so I don't think it's racism at work here I think your teachers just don't like you.
This happens to plenty of white people but they always have to make it a race or gender problem. It’s so boring at this point
“iM wHiTe AnD ThIs HaPpEns To Me ToO” ok but do all you’re other white friends experience this? Or only you? Why you white people always make it about yourselves everytime POC speak about their problems
@@brianmeen2158 cope
@@brianmeen2158 I think you missed an important statistic in the video. It points out that minority students are disciplined harsher at a higher rate for the same infraction 3 times more than their white peers. This creates a disparity in the rate of discipline for like or similar issues. Not making it a race issue by stating what the studies have shown. It's a reality.
This is a good idea on paper , but the best approach would a hybrid. without a standard testing method grades would be hard to determine. wam and gpa are important for recruitment reasons.
"Unconscious Bias" is a "ghost of a ghost". It can't be tested for. It can't be corrected. The most that can be done is hire "good teachers" and fire "bad teachers". That's just as hard as many other things in life. There is no utopia.
So teachers shouldn’t react to disruptive behaviour if the students are coloured?
That’s actually what Obama ordered school administrators in California to do when he was president. It was found that black males were being suspended at a much higher rate than white males - Obama sought to fix this by just introducing a ‘quota’ and telling teachers to reduce the rate at which they give suspensions to black students. I’m not kidding btw lol
I think you mean if the students are people of color*
Give me these babies! all of them!! mercy! #iTeach

Are you mental? Brilliant? Are you kidding? Where was the unconscious bias established in this video???? Would you say that if they showed the teacher and she was black? You are very naive.
