Those dark backgrounds really are dramatic with the floral prints and always look so pretty on you! I couldn't begin to recommend a pattern to you because I'm not at your level of sewing - I did buy the Simplicity pattern 8655 after seeing it made up by you and am looking forward to trying it out - I never thought to get that pattern b/c I wouldn't be trying to make pants but was convinced I could do the tie-front top after seeing yours!

I did buy the last Butterick pattern, 6982, but didn't do anything with it yet. My Joann still didn't have the new Simplicity summer patterns for the 1.99 4th of July sale ☹...but I still found others to buy!

Maybe the big pockets don’t fit with your body shape. But the pants are nicely done!

Really enjoyed your review. I didn't quite understand how you adjusted the bodice front so that you didn't show cleavage. Could you explain further? I am making this dress for myself to wear to my daughters wedding and don't want to worry about over exposure. Thanks.

Love these tips! I haven’t used a sizer, but definitely pre-washed, used a cutting board, and actually used a cotton fabric interfacing for a bias cut facing (love this stuff on any natural fiber camisoles or tops that are cut on the bias, because the cotton interfacing can also be cut on the bias, add requisite stiffness, shrink accordingly when ironed on with steam, and won’t pucker when washed like woven interfacing). And I always use new needles, clean my machine, etc.

The fabric is gorgeous! I appreciate this review, as I own the pattern and have it in my list to make soon.

Thanks for the honest review. I have the pattern and have a similar shape to yours so I know I would be in for a lot of adjustments. The jean shirtdress version on the model is what attracted me. It sounds as though it was designed to be form fitting but that would be a disaster as a shirtdress .. gaping, pulling, etc.

I made this pattern as well and really enjoyed it. I added the yoke and used the burrito method like you did. I didn’t have the fit issues that you did; I did have to grade a couple of sizes out and move the bust point. Your dress is lovely! I love the fabric and the color is so beautiful on you. You have a great eye for the marriage of fabric and pattern. You mentioned that you have other shirt dress patterns that you like better. Could you please share those pattern numbers? Thank you.

I’ve made this pattern. I used view C, but made it sleeveless and shortened it. I had to let it out some- made it before I figured out how to make sloped shoulder and rounded back adjustments. I may make it again and do the denim version. Love your version. The fabric is so fun!

Life has kept me from keeping up with your videos for a little while and I am catching up - I really appreciated your walking through the process of the muslins on the dress form and the decisions you make with them and why! I know a lot of us hate to stop and make a mockup but it really pays off. That thrifted fabric really came through, too - so pretty 😃!

I made this dress in a woven and made SO many adjustments. I had to make the bodice longer. I’m 5’8” and long waisted. I also had to make a full bust adjustment. Even with the FBA I think I added 1.5 inches to the wrap front to get enough coverage. I made 2 muslins to get it right. So while the pattern says appropriate for woven. Next time I would use a stretch fabric.

I love the loop closure for the blouse sleeve. Really clever and much easier.

Thank you sooooo much for this tutorial. I love wrap tops and dresses but ALWAYS have gaping. I will try this method on a muslin first. It looks fab on you. The fit is perfect.

That was so helpful - would it be possible for you to do a demonstration with the adjusted piece and adding the skirt. Appreciate you showing the wrap dresses with your adjusted top pattern piece. Would love a sewalong of one of your beautiful wrap dresses.

I love your videos. I share your taste for modest necklines. I’m confused because your first pink and orange mock-up looks like it wraps but the pattern looks like it’s for a deep v. So I’m wondering if first go at it did you change from deep v to the wrap pink and orange? And then it wasn’t high enough so you were showing how to add more? Thank you for this because I usually want the neckline up about four inches.
