Existing tile wall. How do I know if it’s porcelain or ceramic?
@@stevewaclo167 the edges of porcelain are clean, flat, square & the colour of the surface of the tile. Ceramic has different colour on tile edge & a masonry drill bit will drill with ease. Porcelain / a masonry bit will take a white to drilll & the drill bit will melt
thanks mate
Hi mate, Thank you for great and clear instructions. Can I use this technique for my sliding door glass which complies with Australian Standard AS 1288:2021? Thanks
AS1288 is toughened glass so existing glass can’t be cut . New toughened glass with a hole 👍 if it’s safety laminated glass it can be done by an old skilled glazier but that level of skill nowadays is rare. So just swap out using new glass thanks 👍
Thanks! My 4 hr battle with my porcelain wall in order to install a grab bar hopefully will be resolved.
About to drill my first porcelain tile tomorrow evening, looks easy enough, I’ll let you know if I balls it up. 😬
If it gets slower & time consuming then sharpening required by drilling into a sharpening stone. Really works well then 👍👍 thanks for the comment
@@glassbeveller Well, it went a little easier than expected, job done and no cracks. 👍
Many thanks for the masterclass, everything I needed to know. 👍
Thank you for this... and help me pray today.. I bought a HUGE glass cabinet to build a paludarium.. 140cmx120cmx50.. And i need to cut a 15cm hole into the side to be able to reach the electronics after it is set up... I might have taken a little to large of a bite to chew because i cant lay it flat to cut a hole into it.. but ok,, it either works or it cracks and the whole thing will have to go to the scrapyard haha..😅🤣 Thank you for this video very clear explenation, ill try and go about it like you showd,, thanks again mate 🙂
Love the way you called the inventor of porcelain tiles an arsehole. I think you were being kind.
I add a bit of humour to keep it interesting 👍 thanks

American, New Orleans, LA MY grandson has family over the pond. Mc Clusky he and his Mum, our youngest live next door and I will forward him your video, he is 26 years old, we love having he and his Mum next door. Hansel Schmidt is his name he is into UFO, etc. but your video is very informative and I will pick up a diamond bit for a job that has been extra tough. My wife and I are both 82 so Im adding a grab bar in our tile bathroom and your video has been very helpful. 😗👋
Must U make a masonry hole first...I need to make a 32mm hole
I burn out about 5 bits for one hole
No such word as "masonary" relative to which you are referring. The word is masonry.
Yet, 90% of the English world says, “masonary”.
Do they make round pet doors that will fit into a glass window?
super simple thanks
Welcome 😊
Too many adds for a thumbs up.
I can’t turn them off & haven’t approved them either , yes they shit me too. Sorry
I know right but CZcams added without permission
A very nice video indeed: very clear, straightforward - all the information I needed. Thank you.
What’s the name of that cuter plz?
Once you start the run, turn over and apply pressure running it around, then flip back Make the relief cuts, works great, Thanks for the video, shows you know what you're doing!
Does it matter what the grit is on the sharpening stone? Can I just use the cheapest 100/200 grit knife stone?
Cheapest is fine . 120 or 80 is good
Thanks for the video. What can be substituted for karo
WD40 , CRC any very thin lubricant 👍
Thanks for the comment 👍👍
Great video! I should have watched pre-project, as it was really difficult with masonry/glass bits. Thanks!
Can you remove the circle piece ending with the intact square?
So a cat for hole in a mirror? Yes . See my cat door video 👍👍
Absolutel legend thank you very much
i tried the same red diamond drill,,,,,,,,,,good for 10 holes, and it took 8 min for 1 hole, then the dirt fills up the inside of the drill and you can not go deeper. The fat inside lasts only for 2 holes then it is mixed with dust and it is a 15 min job to clean the inside of the drill. Switched over to the older style with an opening in the side, added the trick with the masking tape and did 10 holes in a row in 10 minutes. The package says "no water needed" but that is bull S.
Nice video. I'd have to wear gloves.
Believe it or not once you’ve been doing it for many years gloves are a pain. Required for safety & dangerous cutting & glazing jobs of course but if you (really) know what your doing it becomes optional in most cases . It becomes like working with wood 😂
I used a masonry (concrete) drill bit, and after a painstaking amount of time, I made a whole trhough it fracturing the otber half of a ceramaic porcelain pot.
Like you said a pro I ain't yet I'm convinced enough to try new thing ain't scard to fail. Don't hate lol
Good information. Masonry to start, diamond to finish. Is ths better than starting with the diamond on a 45 degree angle to start, and then slowly rotating to square?
Thanks mate - Cheers!
Appreciate the advice ... will be drilling in porcelain tile to install grab bars in guest bath.
I was cringing every Rome you drug your fingers along the cut lol
Thanks a lot for such great tips. We were struggling to make hole im 20mm Porcelain Tile. Will try this technique.
can you easily cut a circular hole in a car window? I want to put a stove in a camper conversion and would rather not cut a hole in the body. The windows are curved and not perfectly flat
Curved glass has some tension in the glass so 80% chance of it breaking when cutting the hole. If it’s toughened / tempered glass it can’t be done ! Cheaper to get a clear polycarbonate sheet cut to size that can be flexed to a curve with a hole in. DONT use Perspex, curved glass with a hole ( min) $1,000 I hope that helps you out. 👍
@@glassbeveller thanks. It looks like i'm gonna drill through the roof after all then
super cool
Luv this❤
Cheers mate you're a legend
The video was fantastic, straight to the point, the drill bit worked extremely fast. I guess with your experience you can move forward quickly. Thanks again...Andy
Thanks buddy 👍
It’s clear to see that Americans have no proper education when it comes to craftsmanship. Greeting from a German glass cutter with 25 years of experience.
Very helpful
Okay, that's how you do it in the Southern Hemisphere but what about the Northern Hemisphere? 🙃
Lol for sure whoever invented porcelain is an a-hole
Thank champ
I was struggling with a carbide tipped drill until I saw your video. Your method worked perfectly! Thanks for the tip.
No problem. Thanks for the comment. 👍
Thanks dude, good advice
Wish I had searched youtube before wasting money on a glass and tile drill that is useless for porcelain. Oh well back to Bunnings for the diamond core bit. Thanks for the informative video
Helpful. Thanks, mate.
Thanks for the info and example, cheers from America
Cheers mate got to drill the tiles in my new bathroom tomorrow and just thought I would check out how to do it. I would have had the drill on hammer. Many thanks am on my way to buy the proper drill.
