Do you know if you can take t-tops off with the rack still on
Last
Don't know if you still have the rack, but I do have some questions: does the top of the rack rub against the soft top? Did the rear support damage your vehicle?
I do not have the jeep or rack anymore. The rack didn't rub against the soft top. However, I did experience buffeting with the top many times. I put pool noodles around the bars of the rack which helped with the buffeting but I did feel like the noodles ended up rubbing the soft top in a negative way so I took them off and dealt with the buffeting. The rear support did not damage the vehicle, if anything the stickiness for the metal pads that the rear support "pushes against" did but not much at all.
great walk through and explanation! Exactly what I was looking for in a roof rack so I can use it with both tops. thanks!
Nice video, I just bought a jk with this rack and had no idea how it worked!
Ello
Thank you for video . Nice job 👏🏻
Hello Ryan. Question(s). Have you tried using a Roof Top Tent with the Gobi Rack? And thereafter, tried to open/close the soft top with the RTT still attached to the rack? If you have, is it harder to lift the rack?
Hey man so I ordered one and of course its gonna be a while but I heard a recent bad report about the side body support the bumpers that stabilized the rear bars one near the gas lid and the other on the top. Well the thing I heard was that the top brace isnt usable on a soft top which I have. And because of that the cage and all is able to move around alot do you Have any issue with the rack bc of the soft top?
Hey Mark, I unfortunately do not have this Gobi Rack anymore as well as this Jeep. However, when I did have it for my JKU I only had issues with the soft top buffeting in the wind. It was VERY annoying and the only proper solution was installing black pool noodles on the rear bars which helped reduce the noise of the top hitting the rack and keeping it in place. Other than that, it was fine, I didn't have structural issues of swaying or concerns. This was also the design from probably 2012 or so (my jeep was a 2015) and I'm assuming they may have adjusted it since then especially to support the new JL jeeps. Sorry this doesn't help much but hope this gives you an idea.
@@rwarner this answered all of it thank you so much for replying back
nice drone shots .... how did you get clearance to fly near/at an airport ? .... Fort Devens still uses helicopters 🚁
Since it was during autocross, i asked the club who was in charge at the time if it was okay and they were cool with it. Eventually they didn't like it, some riders found it distracting. I didn't do it again after that day. This was years ago. DJI also didn't have restrictions for this particular location at the time. Hope this helps. Thanks!
Exactly what I was looking for, thanks! Gobi should be giving you a commission haha.
Happy to hear it's still helping people! ☺ Thanks
classic z0r content :D
do you have any videos where you follow the car the entire way just right behind it with the drone that would be really cool
I’ll sue you... my boss will can’t do it on wranglers
Muy bueno
It's for Playstation 2?
Ryan.. I am wondering when the soft top is close would the fabric will touch rubbing into the rack ?? ..I am concern
Sorry for the late reply here, but it wasn't much of a concern. There was some sound issues with the soft top hitting the rack in the back on the highway but I ended up putting some black pool noodles on the bars so it wouldn't cause an issue. Hope this helps.
I have a questions..as this Gobi rack is good to use for the Best Top soft top ? ..I have a wangleer Jk.
Does this work for any car?
It works for anything that can hold water technically speaking. The jeeps have an empty bumper so thats what it takes advantage of
Ryan Warner OK.
And nice job
This is awesome thanks! Does the rack create any whistling noise?
But what if you have a load up there like a roof top tent and gear will it support the weight leaning it back ?
No they recommend not doing so when loaded
I've been looking for a roof rack that allows the top to be off relatively easy and this definitely fits that bill. Thank you for this video!
This is awesome! I want to get a rack but did not want to loose the possibility of having the top down... now I know I don’t have to and understand why Gobi racks are so damn expensive! Because they’re worth it!
I'm here to make sure it lives on.
esta en pc y ademas se le traba que horror bro bajale los grafico
how did you connect it to power?
I wired the pump up with 12 gauge wire down the frame rails along the driver side. Then the pos/neg went to my source panel which is basically fuses and relays. Alternatively you could just wire it up to your source of power anywhere that would be most appropriate.
Pee in it or whatever. Dang kids! This is a cool mod. Never new this existed.
Helpful video, thanks...quick question though...is this rack for all types of wranglers? I was wondering will it also be fit for use for a 2018 Sahara? They upgraded a few changes with the latest jeeps
This particular rack in the video is for a specific line of JKs, not sure if a 2018 is a JL or not. But I would suggest checking out Gobi Racks website for more information! I don't know if they made one yet for JLs
@@rwarner thanks for the info, I'll check it out
ps2
do you think it would break if you did this with a roof top tent installed?
I'm not sure, do you mean tilting it back with a RTT installed? I would be worried about it imo. I've tilted it back with a Awning on the side though
Ok now that is been over a year now. How is it holding up ???
No complaints thus far. I haven't added much more onto it other than front and rear lights and CB. They work when I need them too so that's good. I'm pretty sure my battery is going bad so the voltage meter is helpful to check it while the alternator isn't running.
I want that roof rack but i'm not too sure about drilling into my jeep!!! YIKES!!
Thanks for taking the time to do this. Very helpful video!
How's the wind noise factor?
Not too bad with a hard top. With a softtop it's definitely more prominent. Especially if you have lights on the front or not. The airflow will potentially make the soft top flap if you don't have lights to disperse the airflow. However, they've also changed their design as well on the newest jeep so i can't speak to that.
If only you could waterproof this
Thanks for the knowledge and time... good stuff!
You're welcome! :)
I like how ur Reeboks match ur shirt
Hello, I'm from Australia and my steering wheel is on the right side, do you think this will complicated the installation of the pod?? Is it even possible?
I can't imagine how it would make things much different. Assuming you still have access holes in the similar locations. The only concern could potentially be the length of cord running from the switch panel to the source system if for some reason the engine bay is swapped or something could not be long enough? I don't really have a straight answer for you, you'll have to do some poking around.
Yep thanks, i'll check that out soon, thank you for your quick reply! have a good one
Matthew Hoang no problem! Good luck
I just installed this yesterday and I must say I'm very pleased with the product considering the price and how well it is made. I've had an sPOD on my last JKU and it was 3x the cost that i've paid for this. Then again that was nearly 10 years ago and no other companies had made a switch panel. One thing I would like to add that the sPOD does not have the extra wiring fuse to the fuse box. That was a con, and somehow the sPOD managed to drain my battery from time.
Brandon Koay glad to hear it 👍 it's been good here as well
Brandon Koay yes, yeah I wired the rear lights and mounted them on the rear of the gobi rack (there are specific mount areas). The wire is on the outside in wireloom and electric tape and goes INTO the pipe of the Gobi rack on the driver rear side and up and out near the driver door. From there i did a waterproof quick disconnect to be able to tilt the rack back and unplug the lights. That connects into the other side of the waterproof connector that then runs down the driver side rack pipe that goes down the windshield side and out the bottom of it (drilled a hole in the plugged bottom plastic piece) and into the engine bay to the source panel. Hope this helps get an idea 👍
Well, I saw on the forum someone used a vacuum cleaner to catch the wire. He tie a long string on the end of the wire so it could be easily sucked to the vacuum.
Ryan Warner Ah, that's too bad. Well thanks for your feedback:)

Thanks for the video.
I assume you can remove a hard top with this as well?
Did you have to remove the hardtop to install the switchbox? Or were you able to work around it.
The Modded Heavens yeah, you have to definitely take your hard top panels off to access the loop to secure the switch box. Was just looking at this today. I originally had my soft top on when installing though and had it lifted up / open
Thanks for taking the time to review this system. I just received mine today. I plan on starting the install first thing tomorrow morning. Question, did you use the 3m tape? I have a 2015 JKU.
No problem. Oh man, I can't tell you how many times I've chased squeaking stuff in the A pillar area. I haven't gotten a specific solution for you. I've taken off the grabars so many times and also re-tweaked the gobi rack bolts on the outside. Nothing had seemed to be the optimal solution. I also started getting minor squeaking over bumps with the cold up here in new england somewhere around the appollointech which I assume is just because of the cold. Unfortunately don't have anything specific for help in that regard. I've learned to somehow just ignore it, but it took me a long time. Just sucks
i was wondering how the top came down with a roof rack installed! thanks!
DORKENSHIRE no problem! Glad it helped :)
which gobi rack do you have?
I have the Gobi Stealth rack, with the four separate lights on the front bar rather than the lightbar versions that they have now that are available.
Much better video without all that annoying music... thanks
what year is your jeep? did the box with the switches get in the way of the latch for the tops?
This is a 2015 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport S The box inside the cabin, did not get in the way for the latches on both the hard top and the soft top. I just switched over to the hard top and the latch slips behind it a bit but easily accessible. Thanks for the watch
that helped thanks nice job by the way
Thanks! Appreciate that
