Birches by Robert frost

When I see birches bend to left and right Across the lines of straighter darker trees, I like to think some boy's been swinging them. But swinging doesn't bend them down to stay As ice-storms do. Often you must have seen them Loaded with ice a sunny winter morning After a rain. They click upon themselves As the breeze rises, and turn many-colored As the stir cracks and crazes their enamel. Soon...

A fragment of a lecture analyzing part of a poem: But often, in the world’s most crowded streets, But often, in the din of strife, There rises an unspeakable desire After the knowledge of our buried life, A thirst to spend our fire and restless force In tracking out our true, original course; A longing to inquire Into the mystery of this heart which beats So wild, so deep in us, to know Whence ...

A snake came to my water-trough On a hot, hot day, and I in pyjamas for the heat, To drink there. In the deep, strange-scented shade of the great dark carob-tree I came down the steps with my pitcher And must wait, must stand and wait, for there he was at the trough before me. He reached down from a fissure in the earth-wall in the gloom And trailed his yellow-brown slackness soft-bellied down,...

God is Born by D. H. Lawrence

The history of the cosmos is the history of the struggle of becoming. When the dim flux of unformed life struggled, convulsed back and forth upon itself, and broke at last into light and dark came into existence as light, came into existence as cold shadow then every atom of the cosmos trembled with delight. Behold, God is born! He is bright light! He is pitch dark and cold! And in the great st...

I'll never be a lap dog, licking dirty feet, A sleek dog, a meek dog, cringing for my meat, Not for me the fireside, the well-filled plate, But shut door, and sharp stone, and cuff...

I Now it is autumn and the falling fruit and the long journey towards oblivion. The apples falling like great drops of dew to bruise themselves an exit from themselves. They're in the link: We are made of dust. We are flying on every wind. Blown to the back of the earth, stormed at, broken, defiled. We are people of dust, but dust with a living mind. Dust with a spirit. Grace goes to the end of the earth. Follows the dark act. The thought, lying, wounding, distraught. We are dust from our birth, but in that dust is wrought a place for visions, a hope that reaches beyond the stars.

The Bible/Torah/Koran was not handed to mankind by a god,... nor was it dictated to human stenographers by any gods; all written by men! The Olden Testes Bible/Torah were just fables from the stone ages by oral tradition... the Bible, a books of fables, was VOTED on by a group of men after the 4th century; the Koran was just the copied and demented dogma of a selfish and petty despot.... There are no gods... [btw - any objections to these historical facts must be accompanied with evidence to prove the existence of any gods claimed]

I love this poem and it's well read. I was put off poetry for years because many people think they should read poems in an artificial "poetry voice" - a sort of strangled singsong high pitched monotone - and that ruined it for me (it still does). Whoever is reading this does it well, with just the right amount of expression. Well done.

In the Balkans, there are fewer and fewer successful bookstores and the numbers of people read even a couple of books per year are staggering. And since the ascent of Internet, there's an abundance of websites about books that are on your reading list for school in a quite condensed form, so you don't even need to deal with the book itself. Although I do enjoy ebooks on my Kindle, I believe there was never a time with such a discrepancy between published books and the numbers of people actually interested in reading/enjoying them. A culture that invented the so-called "coffee table book" shouldn't pride itself in its literacy.
