    I ran a bus service from Victoria to Bamfield transporting west coast trail hikers in the late 90's. Those Mac Blo off highway trucks were bloody huge...the roads were often just barely wide enough to get out of their way!

    Awesome vid, my pops drove em all too, the 5 axle set up is definitely the way to go in the west coast steep country. When I was a young fella Dad had a 1974 hd Hayes, hauled a lot of off hwy with ten foot bunks in ol Hazel, he also had a 1984 mack, Maxine "the big black bitch" with ten foot bunks also, it had the 865cid v-8. Dad drove off highway up north during the winters on ice roads, was number one truck for Triple c for a number of years in Squamish and He also drove the big iron 12s 14s 16s for Powell Daniels, Russell Lily contracting for about 12 years which eventually became Hayes logging i believe...

      Dad was a wild one for sure, he was a good trucker, he used to slack one trailer brake off to about 30% in case the brake locked up on the ice or dynamited for some reason the trailer would still follow the tractor instead of dragging it off the road.. God speed pops! I miss you!!

    These look like 12' bunks on the logging trucks , in the 1970's I ran a Tank Drill drilling / blasting rock to put in New Roads for the trucks to haul out of the bush to the log dumps and booming grounds - The had HAYES - PACIFIC P 16 - 12 ' & 14' bunks . Euclid 85 Ton Rock Wagons with bunks 16' to 18 - Huge Loads close to 150 Tons of Wood - all the other trucks would sit in a by pass while these Monsters came out of the Bush with a 2 to 3 per cent down hill grade - this was across from the top of Vancouver Island - logging camps of Namu and Nikite - Huge dry land sorts where a Big Yellow cedar 5 ' to 6" ft on the butt - the Cash Buyers would pay $8000 for this One Log - that would be made into furniture in Japan - Huge self loading log barges would load the logs and take them across the Pacific Ocean to Asia - Not Many Big Trees anymore - now there is Helicopter Logging - Sikorsky Sky Crane = GOOD OLD DAYS

    In my 41 year in camps, we had these trucks, did tune ups on 71s 92s, even did a swap to a Cat 3412, changed many a trans, diff, planetaries, on KW, Mack, Hayes, Pacific , Challenger even a old Euclid, all were basicly the same except the Euc, They were given many nicknames, Honda, 2 stroke joke, barky, green leaker. Even have a picture of a 3 log load, all from the same tree. Even had to 10 and 12 foot versions, first 5&4 I ever got to shift in a 12. Lots of good memories, sore bones. Coast Powertrain did many a Allison, Clark diff for us. Now all this stuff is sold off to Indonesia i brlieve.

    Well a truck with just one 4 axle trailer with the bunks out to side would probably be carrying just rough estimate but would say around 65.00it's to 70.00 kgs the trains just add for every trailer it's heavy and only reason they can do it is they own the road benefet of logging mill having it's own roads no load restrictions only other people driving them would be forestry workers and fisherman hunters but the milk also has trucks coming in the hwy system where you can only haul 63.500 kgs on 5 axle or btrain

  • @1stinenergylimitedmdevelop533

    While we all know the buzzer dozen was a strong old motor it is much more likely that these big tractors were using the 1710 Cummins v 12 or the 1786 v 12 cat motor to pull these kinds of crazy wood loads

    I like how all of the smaller or regular logging trucks were bringing some large loads, then out of nowhere here comes the Pacific, Challenger or Hayes, whatever slowly grunting up the hill with a whole forest on it's back. Those purpose-built logging trucks are no joke.

    • @bmad1386
      @bmad1386 Před 2 měsíci

      The difference in drivetrain specs and gear ratios is far too massive to compare the regular trucks to the specifically built ones.

  • @the902giant
