FREE to subscribe! We are a 501(c)3 non-profit located in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, caring for exotic birds and reptiles. We rely on donations, sponsors, and fundraising in order to keep doing what we do. Our reason for existence is to educate people about exotic birds and reptiles and share the stories of the animals to gain a better insight on proper care so that YOU can have a happy and healthy bird or reptile.

My blue and gold attaches everyone that approaches her, except me! We’ve had her for over 20 years. We’re getting to old to give her the attention she needs.😢. I refuse to dump her at some Macaw place. She’s been alone all these years, and would not except other birds around her.
My Macaw will not stay in a cage, she always managed to get out, we gave her, her own room with a window and viewing window to watch t.v.
It pains me to see that these intelligent creatures were being hoarded and kept in apparently terrible conditions. You're doing great work getting them into a better situation and trying to find a good place for them to live.

What is that buldge on the chest?
That's his crop, i.e. first stomach. All birds have that bulge after they eat a meal, you just can't see it on birds that are fully feathered. In this case, Rocky just finished breakfast and packed his crop, then decided to take a bath. He's a happy full bird.

Ahh! It’s so nice to find a video specifically on yellow-collared mini macaws! My yellow-collared mini macaw, Georgie, is around the same age as Sunny and we’ve had her for about four years now. Very awesome to hear some tips and experiences about a bird that seems pretty uncommon as a pet!

@carolhartley4448 We use Chicken "nugget" as a nickname for Chicken along with Chicken monster, Chicken tender, and spicy Chicken. 😂 She's such a little character!

There’s so much information out there and it all contradicts itself. I do so much research and everyone says something different, it’s confusing and difficult. That loud annoying music is so unnecessary. Your cages look painted, rusted and empty, not much toys.

Why are those cages so empty? They need things to do. Idk, I don’t think those big birds should be caged, especially indoors. It just feels so wrong.
Beautiful bird. I have a green cheek, the big birds are absolutely beautiful and fascinating but they’re way too much bird for me. ❤ My bird is always free to go in and out of its cage, unless I’m cooking or unable to watch her. My bird loves leather. It’s all untreated natural leather.
So sweet, I love when they dance, I had a Playlist of songs on today, and my bird Jake, got to dancing with only certain songs, smart our birds are, cuz now I now my birds genre😅😅😅😅

That cage is way too small
Thanks for watching. Pinky is in the only cockatoo cage that we have at the rescue right now - he has to be in a cage designed for cockatoos so that he doesn't escape, wander across the macaw cages, and face a severe injury to his toes from a macaw bite. We would love to get Pinky a new cockatoo-proof cage that is bigger. Since our rescue is already in danger of closing as we are severely lacking in funding due to rising costs and a massive dip in donations since COVID (It costs us just over $2000 per month just for overhead costs - that's not including the costs to care for the animals), maybe you would consider donating a new cage for Pinky. We've had our eyes on a couple of cages, but one in particular stands out. So, asking you to CONSIDER (actually asked you to consider twice) donating a new cage for Pinky, since you think that Pinky's cage is too small, means that we have to "grow up"... Fact - it IS easy for people to sit at their keyboards and make comments and do nothing about it and it IS easy for people to lend their opinions and not donate to help. Asking for donations so that people can help support our cause is what we do as we are a non-profit organization and NONE of us get paid to take care of the animals. So, if asking for donations means that we need to "grow up", then we'll probably never grow up and we're ok with that.

Territorial nesting behavior 🤷🏼♀️ Chewing and constructing a nest is a big part of a birds instinctual behavior.
That is so true they are very well taken care of as well as the reptiles that they get.

Aww, he's so sweet!❤ All of us that have parrots know they make a mess, but I vacuum my bird Jake's cage everyday and any rooms he shreds a treat or eats treats, I wouldn't trade mine for the world it doesn't take long, our parrots are so worth it,Bubba tell your mom it's ok cuz your sooo cute❤❤❤Im sure Bubba loves you and you him, family, maybe a bit messy but they are our family😅❤❤❤❤adorable!

They ALL do that wipe beak clean! My 33 y/o B&G who I rescued at age 10 months loves to wipe her beak everywhere. She takes excellent care of her beak and rarely if ever needs a trim. Sam looks so cute! I don’t let my large birds sit on my shoulder. I’ve found I must always be the lead bird and if her head is higher than mine she starts getting more aggressively territorial.
That's wonderful to hear that.You have such a great relationship with your bird! Samantha usually treats me like a tree when she is on me and she is all over my arms and crawls down my back and crawls up my legs. She's a ham for sure!

Hello. I have a rescue green wing macaw. She will never fly as she had her left wing broken and never fixed, left foot and beak damaged. She was severely underweight as well. With all the research I am unsure of what is a healthy weight for a non flying macaw, do you have any suggestions. Thank you for your love of these special birds....
Hello and thanks for watching! The typical weight for a green wing macaw is between 1050 and 1708 grams or 2.315 and 3.765 pounds. It's difficult to say whether that is a healthy weight for your GWM - some are smaller and some are bigger. Our Rocky bird is huge (big boned) and is definitely closer to the 1708 grams. The best thing you can do is get a gram scale and tare it with a perch on top to take a proper weight measurement. Also, look for signs of the kiel bone sticking too far out of the middle of the chest. A healthy bird's kiel should not stick out from the rest of the body - instead, there should be a healthy amount of muscle and tissue on either side showing a nice little round chest.
