SOLO TRAVEL VLOG | MACHU PICCHU INCA TRAIL HIKE 4D/3N
Hi guys! 26 miles later, I made it to one of the seven wonders of the world: MACHU PICCHU. Making it to all seven is a bucket list item...4 down, 3 to go. This is not my usual content or style of filming but wanted to share my fun solo travel adventure and hopefully encourage people who are afraid to travel alone to step out of their comfort zone and go see the world. I hope you enjoy it. Please don't forget to like, share & subscribe. As always, appreciate the continued support.
Tour Company I used: www.alpacaexpeditions.com/classic-inca-trail-trek-4d3n-group-service/
Tips for success - Packing list (must fit in day pack and no more than 7kg for issued duffel bag)
- Waterproof hiking shoes and flip flops/camp shoes (recommend crocs) for when you are done hiking for the day.
- Outer layers (1 rain jacket, 1 light weight down jacket, 1 light weight fleece, 1 rain pants)
- 2 pairs of hiking pants, 2 long sleeve shirts, 2 short sleeve shirts
- Bring thermal top and bottom and heavy-duty mountaineering socks to sleep x1
- Bring merino wool socks (full cushion) x 4, underwear x 6, sports bras x4
- Headlight, sunglasses, wide brim sun hat, neck scarf, cold weather hat
- Heavy duty insect repellent, 50-70 spf sunscreen
- Waterproof pouch for passport, cash and other valuables
- 25-28L day pack with water proof cover, 1.5-3L water bottle or water bladder
- Small trash bags x 4 (to store dirty clothes and sleeping bag)
- Waterproof gloves (a must)! I used hand warmers at night
- high quality rain poncho
- 4-6 packets of tissue paper, small hand sanitizer
- Small packet of baby wipes/body cleansing wipes
- Sleeping bag rated for -18 degrees c (you can also rent one from the company)
- Portable battery pack (recommend anker brand)
- Bring cash 400-500 soles for tips at the end of the journey. Trust me the team will earn it! Also bring coins because you have to pay 1 soles for bathrooms on the hike
- Snacks/energy bars, toiletries
- Ibuprofen, pain killers for muscle aches, anti-diarrheal, anti-nausea meds, Diamox as needed
Tips for success - Hiking
- Maintain a positive attitude always. No matter the conditions, your attitude makes so much of a difference.
- 4 day/3 night trail is tough. Mentally and physically prep to walk 26 miles mostly uphill, on uneven terrain. You will feel so accomplished once you are done! You got this.
- Enjoy every moment. The views are incredible and breathtaking.
- Bottom line up front is the best way to see Machu Picchu is through the Inca Trail.
Good Luck,
Angel

      Hey! Of course! I hope you learned something. Yes you have to do a PT test every 6-12 months depending on your score. It consist of a 1.5 mile run, push ups and sit ups/waist measurement. There are also other options like the “Hammer” run, hand release push ups, planks. As a new grad nurse, would you suggest working civilian first in your preferred specialty to avoid doing 3-4 years in med-surg or every nurse coming in is required to work either OB or Med Surg? Because I want to work in the ER then apply for flight nursing as well

    • @AirForceNurseAngel
      @AirForceNurseAngel Před 8 měsíci

      Hmm the issue is critical care in the Air Force is severely undermanned. If you come in as an ER or ICU nurse the likelihood of them releasing you to flight nursing is in my opinion low (just my 2cents, can’t say for sure). If you want to do ER, my suggestion is to do this on the civilian side for however long (1-3 years) then ask your recruiter to commission into flight nursing. Flight nurses are now undermanned so I think you are more likely to direct commission as a flight nurse now than before when it was extremely rare. Hope this helps. Angel

    How was your pay comparable to civilian pay?

    • @AirForceNurseAngel
      @AirForceNurseAngel Před 8 měsíci

      So I was a brand new nurse so wasn’t making so much. As an Air Force nurse I was making more but I also had a lot of tax breaks as well. Remember they only tax your base salary. They don’t tax your housing allowance which can be anywhere from $2-4k per month so you can make a lot more money that way.

    Hey Angel, I'm a 7-year AD enlisted airman 11 months away from my DOS. I plan to separate, attend AFROTC, and use my 9/11 gi-bill to get a nursing degree. I have a CCAF in CJ. I really want to be an officer, but I'm concerned with how difficult it is to do nursing classes while being in ROTC. I don't know if the stress from nursing class will hinder my performance in ROTC. If I underperform I'll get kicked out of the program Was the nursing program difficult? Long story short the gi-bill is the only chance I have at the life I'm striving for. Any advice will help.

    • @AirForceNurseAngel
      @AirForceNurseAngel Před 8 měsíci

      Hello! This is tough! I did not do ROTC but it is my understanding that the ROTC programs make special accommodations for nursing students as it is a very demanding major. My recommendation is to use your GI bill, do not do ROTC and direct commission via Nurse Transitioning Program (NTP) once you graduate. I personally just don’t think it is worth having to do all the ROTC requirements when you have your G.I bill to pay for school. If you have supplement school fees, living expenditures that the g.i bill won’t cover, I recommend personal loans and then using the health professions loan repayment program to pay off the rest of your loans when you commission. Hope this helps, Angel
