The netburst direction would have paved an interesting future, one where both extended and simple instruction set targetting would be natively supported, but with programs compiled using a simpler instruction set could theoretically perform better. Like having a 'psuedo-risc' instruction set which bypassed most of the instruction simplication steps. A compiler with all the time in the world to optimize could spit out more ideal code than the cpu doing it in realtime would.

Back in the days i used to own (i still have it, just not rly using it) a Sempron 140 pc, recently found out about the second core in the chip, so I've bought a new motherboard that supports the UCC feature and unlocked my Sempron 140 with 3.6 Ghz. It was still pretty awful and faced some inconvenience during the time I was testing it, but man, I enjoyed every minute of it, the games I used to play as a child with 10-15 fps was amazing with 30-60 fps on the same old nostalgic setup, amazing video man ❤️
