If you ask 100 people what it mean to be sane I'm sure you will get 100 answers. What's normal to some people may not be normal to others. If you do something that is not normal to somebody then they may think you are insane. If you do something that is normal to somebody then they may consider it sane but in reality there is really not a such thing.

Suicide is not justifiable in no case. I understand people deal with stuff mentally but suicide is not the answer. There is so many things you can do get yourself mentally stable there is no reason a person should commit suicide. Overall if you kill yourself you will not get in heaven and will suffer through eternity. With that being said God will not put more on you than you can bear and nobody should end their life. I understand people go through things and they should do everything they can to get help suicide is not the option. We should try to help people stop because they are not only hurting themselves but also those around them.

I honestly believe the death penalty should be eliminated. No matter the crime I think it should be up to God rather somebody live or die. The death penalty is slowly but surely being eliminated in the U.S with half the states eliminating it. I know in the future it will be banned completely. It is a good topic to debate on.

The study of "education" on the Philosophy Club Radio Hour provides a provocative examination of the function and importance of education in our lives. The program explores the complex nature of education-formal schooling, self-directed learning, and experienced knowledge-through lively debates and a variety of points of view. It challenges listeners to reflect about how education affects society, critical thinking, and personal development in addition to academic success.

The discussions encourage listeners to consider their own approaches to vulnerability and suspicion, promoting reflection on the balance between openness and caution in life. Through intriguing anecdotes and philosophical reflections, the podcast provides a nuanced analysis of these two opposing perspectives on life. Overall, it acts as a stimulating stimulus for further reflection on the nature of trust, danger, and human experience.

Looking at the question of whether social media diminishes people's social skills, I think the answer is yes. I say this because I think social media is making people lose the practice of truly socializing face-to-face. At the end of the day, socialization is something that is practiced. Before social media, there was no reason not to speak to someone, that is, if you were stuck in an elevator with a stranger, you had nothing else to do but talk to the stranger about something like the weather, just to pass the time, or at least make it less awkward. With social media, looking at the same elevator situation, these two strangers can stay there for hours without talking to each other because social media is there to entertain them. This same example can be stretched to phones or the internet, but for the purpose of the question, it will have to serve as an example. I think that part of the reason we do this is because we expect to be better entertained by the full extent of social media than by the person standing next to us. We see more entertainment value in the virtual connection to every other human than we do in the physically present human standing next to us. While it is a little unfair to have to compete with the collection of every ounce of information ever posted by every other human, social media has made that conflict of interest a reality. This battle for your attention can be compared to the popular meme of the nuclear bomb vs the coughing baby. Obviously, for pure entertainment value, most people would choose to scroll on their phone instead of speaking to the stranger. Because we pick social media over the stranger, we are losing that practice, and by losing that practice, our social skills are getting worse.

Once again, I really agree with Kelson's point. It's great to have this safe space that is free of judgment and the fear of being "canceled." I think it's difficult enough to present an opinion that sort of goes against the grain, especially nowadays with things like social media; presenting an opinion that might be controversial doesn't just result in being questioned by maybe 4 or 5 people when you say something, any of these opinions can be opposed by millions of people instead of just the usual 4 or 5. So it boosts this sort of pack mentality, and the desire to be accepted to the 1000th degree, so saying something that will make you stand out and turn people against you can be very scary. I think that something really special about philosophy clubs like these is that you can present a potentially controversial opinion like "Abortion is A very important right" and have a discussion with someone who disagrees in a respectful manner. I say this because, one of the biggest issues with social media is that, because there are little to no consequences to what you do on social media, it's very easy to lose your manners and sense of human decency. I've heard about people receiving death threats for saying something people disagree with on social media. Having that safe space to share your opinion and possibly learn from your mistakes is important. With the assurance that you won't be judged or ostracized for a possible controversial opinion, it's very possible that people with important things to say will have an easier time saying them.

In my opinion, having goals in life is a wonderful thing, we may be able to achieve them, or we may not, as we may change our direction at any moment, but the important thing is that we do not stop trying. it is also important to choose the type of goal as it will determine who we are later, either within the limits of morality or not.

This subject of education has recently become very exciting, for example, the current generation considers going to school to be a waste of time and they even described it as imprisonment, unlike previous generations that sanctified schools and considered it a very precious feature. Perhaps the reason was linking education with money, or the kids being so spoiled, or simply because of the collapse of morals.

Friendships are important and should always be valued. In friendships you should pour into each other so the friendship can flourish. Also having boundaries in friendships are important because later down the line you realize you don't have the energy to entertain certain things, such as activities or comments being made by friends. Everyone has a limit and feelings, others should consider that.

On the nature vs nurture segment, I feel that the podcast members are not accounting for what else might inform how and why a person might grow up into what they are. A nation is determined by its political and socioeconomic factors, a person is raised by their economic environment in some part, on top of being raised by parents who are also economically disadvantaged. It’s why many white supremacists point at cherry-picked statistics and say something about black men and immigrants are committing a different kind of crime that’s more harmful than what they are doing when they have a motive to maintain racial and economic hierarchy over whom they perceive to be lesser.

Given what I have learned so far, myths are intrinsically valuable to the collective human psyche. But only so far as we should only the’ to. Myths, as stated, are not facts that can be debunked later, in that they are not made to be able to be proven false. They are made to be believed in or made a lesson out of. That lends a sort of danger when masses of people take action on such things like myths or prejudices.

I would think that imagination is a fundamentally human trait. I would agree with the ancient Greeks that this places us above animals in one respect. Based on what is discussed here, I’m inclined to believe that determinism plays a big role in modern phenomena in our modern society. Take what are called food deserts, where a given area has residents who don’t easy and reliable or cheap access to stores that holds healthy food, thus the increase in obesity. They can’t control who builds these places and they can’t set laws preventing food deserts unless they have enough time to go city councils. But they are in poverty, so they must work at all times to even get to the cheap but unhealthy foods. That is determinism.

We should uphold free speech. That should mean reaping its benefits and coming to grips with its consequences. If we don’t have free speech, the ways in which we perform on any given subject may not be as deep as it is now. On the other hand, the No Difference argument, where its stated that harm caused is minimal enough that one out of crowd won’t make a difference, falls apart in a reality where ideas can spread given enough space and time. Murdoch owns Fox not just for money incentives, it is to help spread an agenda. Fortunately, free speech is absolute enough that we can turn this back on slander, misinformation, etc. with effort. Great effort, mind you, but it can be done.

Hey Professor - I think everyone made great point throughout the video. I agree with a lot of people in the comments and those on the panel that dating has lost a lot of value throughout the decades. It used to be a courting process that two people would use to gauge and understand if they are able to work, bond, and go through tough battles, with another person and if they want to build a farther relationship with that person. Now it seems more like a fad especially in the teenage years. It is a status level for people. It is something that people take advantage of because they want something from their significant other. - J.Reg.

Hey Professor - I think this is a very interesting topic you have prompted. I think language presents itself as more then just a way we talk and share ideas with each other. Similarly to leadership as people say, language is an art and science. Some people are naturally better at it, using rhetorical skills, persuasive, and tonality. It is also a science because it is something that can be studied and grown through practice. We can pick apart what makes it effective and useful when communicating and expressing ideas towards each other. - J.Reg.

In a moment of lose, mostly ever person has their own way of coping with it. An example being if you've been in a divorce. Do you find yourself sometimes thinking about what could have been inside of what will be with something or someone that you've lost? I believe closer can be closely resembled to a scare. Though the pain may slowly go away, the mark it left will always be there with you.

That why problems in a friend ship are important. As stated, it bring more of a connection to the friendship and I believe it bring the two people closer to each other. We may not even be aware of the various kinds of ads that are all around us. individuals are promoting themselves to other individuals when they introduce themselves. Finding out that being honest is a good approach to sell products was intriguing. These days, it's common for businesses to inflate facts to support their product offerings, even if consumers are aware that most of the claims made are fabrications. People are seeking authenticity, and once they find it, they become more receptive to new ideas. Without some sort of promotion, such as when performers give away free records or items, it is difficult to spread knowledge. Commercials are the main means of drawing attention to the vast number of products that are available in the market.

Modern robots are humanoid in shape, but they are entirely electronic. These work because of the technological work that people have put into them. Not nature, but humans are the reason behind the creation of robots. A bird follows its own desires rather than following specific directions. Even though a robot may be conscious, it cannot function on its own. Humans manufacture the batteries that are used in the machine, and they function. Robots are not a part of the environment; humans, birds, and all other animals are. Like any other machine, robots are a wonderful invention of humans meant to make their lives easier.

Love and hate, in my opinion, are just powerful emotions that require work to maintain; they are not mutually exclusive. To love or hate something, you have to think about it; to be apathetic is to just forget about it. The antithesis of both is apathy. In contrast, everyone expresses love in a distinctive way, according to the theory of the five love languages. To find out how others express their love and whether they are doing it in a way you don't understand, I believe we should learn more about the many love languages.

I believe that there is beauty everywhere, albeit it varies from person to person because different individuals have different tastes in objects. I really appreciate what a student mentioned here: loving oneself is the first step toward living a peaceful life. I believe that in order for someone to love us as humans, we must first love ourselves. After all, if we can't even love ourselves, then who can? When we respect and believe in ourselves, we can love others and they will love us back. In philosophy, this is how the self relates to the self.

I especially liked the point made by the professor when he said goals can be a sort of stabilizing force in terms of giving our life focus, but it can also be a destabilizing force because it can be a source of pressure, anxiety, and guilt. [20:51-21:09] Goals can become a problem, it made me think of the saying too much of something is bad for you, even too much of water will harm you. However, as long as we keep moderation in mind and give ourselves a realistic approach to goals, goals can be extremely helpful.

To me, dating is a way in which we can meet people in the hopes of moving forward. but details must be communicated, because when you assume feelings get hurt. When you say let's be friends, it takes away the spontaneity of the possiblility of it moving forward. Everyone has priorities for dating now, even dating apps are monetized now, swiping left or right on someone you think you have things in common with only to meet them and find out you do not click. Practice does make perfect, but you don't want to practice too much. You know the saying, you have to kiss a bunch of frogs before kissing your prince.

Professor Manzi could you then say political correctness is a form of cancel culture? since it inhibits discussion as Ashley stated. I know I love Kevin Hart, he seems to make jokes about himself unlike someone like Dave Chappell who was criticized for his LGBTQ jokes. concerning educators i do not think they have the privilege of being politically incorrect. The notion that change is the only constant thing now makes more sense.

But one of the points that I can appreciate that closure is not a final destination point. Closure is a mindset that a person can strive for, while healing, and using coping mechanisms to get there. But there are steps to take where you have to acknowledge, understand, and accept that will allow you to move forward because the end result will be your peace of mind.
