    • @5150Lane
      @5150Lane Před 19 dny

      Unfortunately NO. Still have the same issue, but I've incorporated removing tires from wheels and putting them on the opposite side making sure that the inside tread becomes the outside tread. If you think about how tires are rotated (never removing tires from the wheels, the inside tread is always the inside tread no matter which corner of the car the tread is on. By removing and replacing the tire on the wheel, I hope to double my tire life as I am now spreading the wear pattern to both sides of the tire.

      @@roes2238 Interesting website. My tire store did suggest that the alignment on the rear of the vehicle was "up against the wall on one of the alignments on the back" and said they could install a shim on each side to give some greater adjustment capability, but they said it was barely in alignment spec at that time, so they recommended leaving it be to see if the problem persists. To be honest, I haven't kept good enough track of where my tires end up after several alignments, to be reasonably confident that I know which corners of the car are causing the abnormal wear pattern. With the first set of tires (shown in the video), I wasn't very consistent with rotating the tires and probably only did so once or twice during their 18k lifetime. I noticed the wear on the tires that were on the front at 17k miles and assumed it was a front alignment issue. In the ten years I've own the van, I've only put 52k miles on the vehicle, so figuring this issue out takes a long time. I'm thinking that when I have to replace the tires again, I may just buy the cheapest tires I can find and run them without rotating them at all so I can definitely know which corners are the culprits and concentrate my solutions there.

    Install some camber bolts to temporarily correct the negative camber that you obviously have. Pretty common issue on the Sienna. I had camber bolts on for years to fix this and the van pulling on the right and solved the problem. Once I replaced the complete worn out front struts assembly (KYB) I removed the bolts, put back the stock ones and now is perfect. So it's not an issue wIth the tires, it's more a suspension issue from the factory. Mine is a 2006 limited fwd with almost 180k miles. Always driven with firestone or kumho. 235/60/17 And 40psi for the sienna is the way to go...too heavy to stick at 33psi.

    Update on this video. The Michelins that I installed on the vehicle aren't doing any better than the Sumitomo tires they replaced. I'm now removing the tires from the wheels and putting them on the other side of the vehicle so that what used to be the inside side of the tire, now becomes the outside of the tire. I didn't want to reverse the rotation of the tire, so had to take the tires off the wheels and slide them across to the other side of the vehicle and mount them with the tire still rolling the same direction. I know, it sounds weird, but I hope that doing this will allow me to get 30,000 miles out of the expensive Michelins. I'm going to try to find a hole-in-wall tire shop that would be willing to adjust the alignment based on the tire wear instead of what Toyota says the alignment should be.

    • @rondhole
      @rondhole Před 2 lety

      Dude, rotate tires every 6 months, just like people change winter and summer tires. You won't have any problem. Why take so much headache on something that you can solve it by doing rotation. There is nothing to adjust the rear axle , it is the characteristics of the car with slightly negative camber for stability like Lexus IS

    • @5150Lane

      @@rondhole Tires were rotated routinely, but if you follow Toyota's recommended rotation - front to back, back to front, the wear is still on the inside of the tire on both sides of the car. Even if you used a cris-cross pattern, the wear would still be a problem.

    Could it be as now usual 2021 greedy tire manufacturers making softer tires compared to 30 + years ago and lieing to the consumer that the complaints about noisy tires but cutting cost instead? I think both not to mention I read that toyota put a heavy body on camry chassis

    • @5150Lane
      @5150Lane Před 2 lety

      Sounds logical, but doesn't explain why the entire tire doesn't wear more evenly. I only replaced my tires because the inside tread was gone. I feel confident that the rest of the tire tread had at least 20-30,000 miles left in it.

    • @5150Lane
      @5150Lane Před 2 lety

      Hey Mark. Sorry you had to do that.

    It happens with Siennas, it's a thing, I'd get Siennas at 20 to 30k miles and the tires will wear down so fast that the metal will start to show

    • @5150Lane
      @5150Lane Před 3 lety

      I've found that the best way to make the tires last, is to don't drive the Sienna. lol Seriously though, all the tire shops insist on inflating the tires to the number shown on the tire, which is usually around 32psi. The sticker on the driver's side door post says to inflate to 35psi. It may be wishful thinking on my part, but the tires seem to be doing better since I began inflating them to the higher Toyota recommended pressure. The van doesn't get much use (2,000 miles in 2020), so it's hard to gage the wear.

    Is there a solution (like maybe increasing psi)? The sienna (ours is 2017) is just more comfortable than our highlander, but replacing the tires every 20k or less miles really stinks and adds to the cost of ownership. Driving the sienna with really worn tire edges is dangerous, and I hydroplane so easily.

    • @5150Lane
      @5150Lane Před 4 lety

      I tried higher tire pressure on the tires that eventually wore out - the ones in the video. It didn't seem to make any difference. On this set of Michelins, I'm going to dismount the tires from the wheels and install them on the opposite of the vehicle so the inside of the left front wheel will become the outside of the right front wheel. I may do this a couple of times to evenly wear the tires. Remounting the tires a couple of times will cost some money, but should be able to double the tire life this way.

  • @never2be07
    @never2be07 Před 4 lety

    What PSI do you run on your sienna front tires? feel like the Max 44lbs is too low causing the excessive wear on the outer tread

    • @5150Lane
      @5150Lane Před 4 lety

      I always ran the max the vehicle manufacturer suggested, then when I noticed the wear, I bumped that up a few pounds thinking I'd transfer the wear to the middle of the tire instead of the side. It didn't seem to make much difference.

  • @never2be07
    @never2be07 Před 4 lety

    You know I always noticed the front tires of the Sienna look flat even with the maximum 44 lbs of psi and that’s without the family inside. Maybe needs a better set of tires with a higher rating of psi

    • @5150Lane
      @5150Lane Před 3 lety

      I'm beginning to think you are correct. While this may be wishful thinking on my part, since I inflated the tires to Toyota's recommended pressure of 35psi instead of the 32psi shown on the tire, the wear pattern seems to be more even. I only put 2,000 miles or so a year on the van, so it's hard to tell if the tires are wearing better.

    • @paulherder5356
      @paulherder5356 Před 4 lety

      I used a plumbing drain hose, used to connect a sink drain. (Example: tinyurl.com/vzk7a8w) I got mine from a local hardware store. I had to use a hole cutter to ream out one of the friction rings to fit over the vacuum connector on the 5d jig and had to assemble the fitting on the vacuum connector BEFORE connecting the vacuum connector to the jig due to the lip on the 5d adapter. Still had a mess but much less than using duct tape to bridge the shop vac to the jig. Since this hose bends and keeps its shape, I was able to bend it at 90 degrees (down) to the shop vac hose thus the shop vac hose wasn't in the way as much.
