Hi, I'm currently producing a short documentary about Flint, and I'd be really interested to speak to you about this footage, are you able to send me a message please?
I wish the demolition never happened😢😢
I was young but I think I remember men pushing wheelbarrows to the site because the excavation exposed coal seams which they could dig for some free fuel.
Hi, We make the show Saving Lives at Sea on BBC2. We're really interested in using this clip but are unsure of who owns it. I'm wondering if you could share some more information on it? Thanks
I'm rather emotional after looking back upon flint and deeside.Im very very proud of having my whole childhood to enjoy flint, and to return to live with my 2 children for many happy years. My heart is aching.
Great footage, thanks for sharing.
Was this to prepare for the tower blocks?
Remember it well
Wow !! Thanks for the video.
ODM714 the Dennis F25 at 4.20 was at the time based at Holywell. I have a pic of it at the opening of Mold Fire Station with PDM501
The film is economical with the truth
In the 1960s there was a joke about John Summers if you a chap carrying a bed mattress you would say......He must be on the night shift at Summers
The only thing that is produced in deeside now are fish and chips fast food, and children ( sorry I forgot there is a factory that slaughters thousands of chickens a day so people can breed)
Where isFlint County? Wonderful footage I used the wheeled escape many times, great ladder like climbing a staircase
Its in the main what is now Flintshire, North Wales. It was Flintshire pre 1974 but slightly different area (Rhyl, Prestatyn and St Asaph also). It was an oddity that the Fire Service were County of Flint but the police and ambulance were Flintshire.
fantastic
building the flats and playing football on flint town united ground in background.
My grandad Jack Abbott worked for Courtaulds. Once we smelled Courtaulds pollution as far away as Bala travelling by car to Brynford. We all shouted 'Courtaulds!' at the same time. A stink never to be forgotten...
The fireman at the window who turns his head at 4,15 is my dad Gordon roberts
Interesting, the lifeboat station is near the castle.
RIP those buildings xx
Poor maisonnets the saddest thing about it I used to live in feathers lea 19
Priceless footage.
Great post, makes us what we are now.
Amazing, Im sure thats me at the back entering the building
Brings back memories
Hello, we are running an heritage open day tomorrow at the Quay Watermen's Association. Would you give your permission to project this video? Viviana
Not a life jacket in sight.☺️
As a child I visited Gresford Colliery many times to look at the locomotives and I have happy memories of 'THE WELSHMAN' 'GWYNETH' 'PAMELA ' 'RICHBOROUGH ' (which had come from Ifton in 1969 and I never saw her work at Gresford today she is restored and working in Northumberland ) In the Spring of 1973 my late father who had worked at Chislet Colliery in Kent organised an underground visit on a Saturday afternoon it was most interesting and impressive as Gresford was the fourth largest Colliery in Wales (The largest Welsh Colliery of all time was the nearby Llay Main but that had closed in 1966 and by 1972 had been largely cleared ) Little did Dad and I realise that Gresford would close the following October after our visit. Today there is nothing to tell those passing by that the pit ever existed When you think that 266 men lost their lives on that September day in 1934 I do think that it is very sad that the memorial is not actually on the Colliery site itself. ( I have seen the memorial at the Miners Institute over the road from the pit) God Bless Them All.
Amazing piece of history. I lived in the Pandy at the time of the closure of Gresford Colliery.
Great bit of film. Like the way they all kept their caps on while working. Good to see so many Green Goddess's on the road.
brought back some bittersweet memories of the Steelworks, and its devastating closure...very interesting film.Thank you.
Fascinating.
Is it the demolition of Feathers street? All my relatives used live there for years.sadly all dead now :(
This is fantastic to see. I could only imagine this! Thank you for taking the time to compile these clips. Pure history.
