As a general rule, if you want to go to good University then getting into grammar school is essential, certainly for Oxford and Cambridge and courses in medicine and law. It is possible to get into University from main stream comprehensive schools, but not into Oxford or Cambridge. For instance if you want to study medicine to be a doctor you will need to have had a grammar school education. Most medical schools will expect this.

Our kid passed with 90% but didn’t get a place at Grammar as it was oversubscribed. He now has to go to rough violent inner-city secondary school. All his hard work and intelligence ruined as he tries to learn amongst kids who don’t. Seriously do not put your kids through the stress and devastation of doing the 11+ and not getting into grammar because passing the 11 plus is no guarantee of getting a place. Grammar selection is so corrupt. A lot of kids who do get places, get in because their parents know the right people. Nepotism comes to mind.

so basically don't try in life because if you fail it's going to be hard? and violent inn-city secondary? are you saying no secondary schools are any good? what bs is this. The stuff your child learned would be used to work hard in secondary. you don't always get to take the path you need to get to your destination. that's part of life, and the earlier they learn the better. you sound like you made the story up, have a hard time believing you

@@percy9228 Ok fair comment. But the 11 plus is unlike any other exam and getting into grammar is a pure lottery. What sort of message does it give that you can pass something but be failed at the same time especially for an 11 year old child? These are children not grown adults in the bookies, is it fair their future is decided by a lottery? Maybe I was being a bit harsh saying that Grammar selection is corrupt. There are other bigger reasons why those who pass fail to get a place. Grammar schools have seen no expansion in the last 14 years. That’s why there aren’t enough places for all who pass the 11 plus. They’ve never had funding to build new classrooms or recruit extra teachers due to the austerity of the last government, a government that was supposed to be pro-grammar school. Finally it really is distressing for parents and their children when they are denied a place after passing the 11 plus, their future plans destroyed at such a young age. Nowadays if you want to get in to Medical school for instance, they won’t consider your application unless you’ve been to Grammar school. The same with top universities like Oxbridge and Cambridge, they generally do not accept students who didn’t go to grammar.

This is not physical law of earth.. sorry.. Learn real physics.... erstosthenes used parallel rays.. not reality.. Your shadow is larger because that's physical laws of the sun.. if it's your shadow.. larger.. the shadow of clouds.. larger.. the shadow of the moon ..larger.. flat earth moon 30 miles wide.. shadow 70mile wide.. laws of diverging light rays. just not on a globe.. because the moon somehow changes the laws of physics and has converging light rays.. yet reality is reality.. laws are laws. In physics they are what governs earth... Diverging light Now please look at the sun. I'm not wasting my time any longer with people denying of reality. Ignorant to reality or law. Light only comes from spherical objects diverging.. when you look at the sun. Test upon it.. it has diverging light.. not parallel and converging.. Sun is close local and diverging.. pretty obvious.. not looking down a tractor beam of parallel of light.. Really think about it.. you would look at the sun.. and everyone would be looking down one sun ray.. coming from a massive ball.. just one ray engulfs the entire earth.. lmao.. please really think about what your saying.. and have a look at clear evidence. since you won't leave the house or look at the sun.. You don't understand basic geometry. Light rays from the Sun arrive almost parallel. Take a magnifying glass and try to focus light from an incandescent light source to a single point. You won't be able to. Take that magnifying glass and go outside and repeat the exercise. You will be able to focus the sunlight to a single point. Because the light rays are parallel.

He was not Greek he was Libyan. Yes he dabbled in various things but he never studied Geology. There is virtually no evidence of his experiment, any books referring to him were written many centuries later filling in large gaps. He was allegedly born around the time of an Olympiad so he determined this was the first to be recorded despite many taking place before his era. The distance from Alexandria to Syene was not measured by him he relied on others to give him that information which varied depending on who you listened to. The stade used as a measurement varied by region so a Greek stade differed from an Egyptian which one did he use? During this time there were virtually no maps and the only area they knew was around the Mediterranean. The well mentioned had some spiritual connection which was one of his interests. The US military allegedly carried out a similar experiment over a much wider area but i have not found their results, maybe it is classified who knows, why should it be? If anyone has that data It would be great if we could see it.
