Martha Chaves: Laughing Til You Cry
We both feel like we know her, Martha Chaves is after all the funniest Nicaraguan Canadian LGBTQ+ Stand Up Comedian in the World! We know her best from radio shows like “The Debaters”, and “Because News”. She also teaches comedy at Humber and Metropolitan Toronto University, showing the ropes to people just starting out.
Martha tells us she’s heard and seen lots of sexism, racism and homophobia over the years in Stand Up, but she just pushes ahead. On her own at 17, (leaving Nicaragua is quite the story!) she figured out how to be positive and stay that way. Loved hearing from Ron James. He was and IS truly a funny guy & good human being. Also loved you interview with Michel. I used to watch him religiously (always) when I was a young mom & sort of lost track of him over the years. Just busy being a mom I guess. Two great guys…2 great interviews. Hi I am Wendy's cousin and my mother was born in a lighthouse in Newfie. And I have many cousins still living there. They are all Sullivan's. I haven't been down in many years but, I think it is one of the most beautiful places on earth, and has the most friendly and welcoming people in Canada. Great interview!

That part about somebody else being against the whole thing but then getting the Oscars is very frustrating, but also very recognizable, I've seen similar things throughout my career. The people who count will know who did what though.
This hasn't really changed much till the present day. Look at the Oscars for avatar 2. The whole movie was basically CGI yet only one person was on the stage for few seconds to receive the award.

Just watched documentary. It was terrific as was this interview. Didn't expect downward spiral his life took and hope he turns things around. Very interesting and talented guy. Having lived in Toronto half my life, I get why he felt he had to leave when he did HAHA!
