    In the new documentary about Hipgnosis, Graham Gouldman is clearly bamboozled by the cover (as to "what it means"), while at the same time, not in the least objecting to it. The point of confusion is that when this was "commissioned by 10cc", who actually conceived of the concept?

    Great video! For me, the Hipgnosis covers and interior artwork were an important part of the listening and appreciating of 10CC's music. As Aubrey points out, the storytelling was an important part of both the music and the graphics.

    An unusual cover photo/s, but an excellent album - one of the best, together with Sheet Music, The Original Soundtrack, and Deceptive Bends (albeit not the same without Godley and Creme). I always liked The title track, I'm Mandy fly me, Iceberg, and Don't hang up. The last one is excellent, with Kevin Godley's falsetto-ish voice, the changes of key, and instrumentals, including a Harp, a Spanish guitar, and various percussion and sound effects, like on other tracks too.

    A most interesting album cover, the glamorous blonde stressed, tearful woman with run mascara, drink and cigarette, receiving an upsetting phone call, presumably from her husband, the thrusting executive, ( same guy on fire on the pink floyd wish you were here album cover ?). Red car in drive with man and woman getting out, or maybe in, centrefold with the band and these and other characters all on dozens of phones, and back cover with a Columbo looking, type guy, making a pervy handkerchief covered handset, phone box call to the other woman (the one getting out of the car?) who looks shocked and alarmed. Certainly a lot going on. 🤔

      The music and album artwork of 10cc has always fascinated me since my early teens when i first got to know them during the early 1990's when i started heavily collecting records. How dare you album cover certainly has a deep vibe about it although its probably quite simple. I have always had a bit of a vivid imagination, so to me i always wanted to make my own thoughts about it, as if it could of easily been all a set for actors actresses from some mad scene out of the 1970's tv police drama series called the sweeney. John thaw & dennis waterman could of easily been pacing the're way through heavy gritty london traffic in an ordeal to make some sort of bust on a few bank robbing thugs hiding in that manner. And after all, the looks and timing would of been 100% bang on😊

Graham and Eric wanted to become more of a commercial band while Lol and Creme wanted to stick to creativity which led to their breakup. @@utub1473 it was a combination of factors. Add to musical differences the huge pressure on Kevin and Lol to stick with the group and cease all solo activities. Although I wish they'd have started developing that Revlon commercial into a song rather than "People in Love"

    • @mreddiegdaly
      @mreddiegdaly Před 3 lety

      @@DanRelayer_Ukraine my viewpoint is that godley and creme wished to remain as members of 10cc but take time off to work on their own project "consequences" . Eric and graham weren't happy to allow this so they just left. Graham and eric realised after they had made a mistake. Though they joined up again for a project in I think 1992 it didnt go well. The last time I heard about lol and kevin dont communicate and eric and graham dont communicate. Although perhaps they have mellowed with advancing years. They'll all end up in the grave one day. As they are all in their 70s most likely in the night 15 to 25 or so years, still time for a comeback world tour of all 4. I am allowed to dream am I not.

    So do the band members hate each other then?

    • @3DPeter
      @3DPeter Před 3 lety

      No, they all just had other plans in life. A band is like a job, so your band mates can become best friends or just good colleagues, but they sure no family from eachother and they all have their own lives. The same goes for movies, because for example, mel gibson has no contact with other actors who played in mad max, and that counts for about every movie and the actors who play in it. Sure when they promote a album or a movie, the stars pretend as if they all are best friends and hang out with each other all day, but that is just bull shit and just to keep the fans happy.

    • @aidansmyth6480
      @aidansmyth6480 Před 2 lety

      Graham and Eric fell out seriously many years ago as is confirmed in Eric Stewart's autobiography. Eric and Lol actually married sisters so they are, and remain, brothers-in-law. Eric went on to work with Paul McCartney. Kevin and Lol worked together for many years after the demise of 10cc Mark 1 and directed many classic videos for the likes of Duran Duran, The Police, U2 and Frankie Goes To Hollywood. After Kev and Lol went their separate ways, Lol joined Art of Noise and continues to work with Trevor Horn. Kevin continues to make music videos for a wide range of artists. Graham fronts the current version of 10cc which still tours. Eric retired from music several years ago and now dedicates his time to restoring property in France.
