Hopefully they are all sold, none of them are up to the level required at Celtic. Comparing Oh to Giakoumakis isn't a great one, GG had done it elsewhere as he came off the back off an excellent season in Holland. The trouble with buying guys for 2 million ish and then loaning them out for 2 or 3 years, when you add in the wages we'd be as well just buying a better striker for 3.5/4 million. Our recruitment is fine to win in domestic football, for the most part. But we aren't going to do anything in Europe unless we change our approach to recruitment.

Was great to be on, for those of you who haven’t met Tom on any of your travels, he’s a heart of gold. Man, Gav's songs are somethin else. Rhyming 'footballing brain' with 'Chick-ane' was a silly masterstroke. Best I've heard since Dave Pirner and Soul Asylum rhyming 'Urinal' with 'Funeral'. The 'Oh Hyeon-gyu', payoff is still goin round in my head. Great show. Tom's Scots/Korean is fantastic.

great chat as usual guys, my final observations of the season , and there is good and bad news, it was almost a ground hog season for rodgers , with similarities to his final year at leceister . Celtic performing just like leceister, plenty of possession but not getting their fair share of xg from that possession, and a pile of mid speed ball balony that was easier to defend against than anges siege machine. to be fair to rodgers , he was on his way to solving leceisters problems , but his masters ran out of patience. he had better luck at celtic , he made tactical changes after the hearts debacle , pretty much back to angeball , with some tweaks , had time to make it work, and celtic have pulled off a double . my stats fit analysis prediction for celtics performance under rodgers predicted celtic 4 losses and 7 draws , and we end up with 3 and 6. the reason why the stats fit model got so close is down to the predictive capability of net xg. comparing rodgers xg performance elsewhere to what might eventuate at celtic. net xg form has between a 75 to 80% accuracy in predicting the goal margin in a football match ,and obviously who the winner is , and as more games get played it gets more accurate. which leads me to an alarming trend for celtic, celtics net xg performance has dropped from 1.95 goals in ange year 1, 1.85 ange year 2, and now under rodgers a precarious 1.6. why precarious, well the rule of thumb is, the closer you get to 1.5 goals or below the more points you will drop , due to variance like var , deflections, and set pieces etc. rangers arent any better off , sitting at 1.6 . why so, is complicated and its not just about celtic and rangers, but to do with the fact that everyone is using big data and algorthmic analytics to play money ball and optimise tactics, and spending big may not help you overcome data mining thats leveling the playing field . just ask , man u, everton, chelsea, nottingham forrest, bayern munich, barcalona, the list goes on. celtic and rangers arent the only victims of this process. man c won the epl with a net xg of 1.25. unheard of . only 3 teams had a net xg of greater than 1 , man c , arsenal, and liverpool. everyone else way below 1 , and half the league in negative territory , which means just about anybody in the league can be picked off if their performance metrics are down more than 10%. that equates to offensive and defensive actions a meter or two behind the pace required to win a game. fine margins. this is the inherent democracy in big data . ange started a tactical arms race in scotland and it took the league 1 season to try and slow him down , unfortunately for ange , it took less than half a season in the epl . its been an endless source of fascination to watch the defensive tactics thrown at celtic this year, its been very nuanced, and not every transition low block has been the same . hopefully rodgers tactical learnings and adjustments from this season will claw back some of that lost net xg , assuming the rest of the league doesnt use big data to drive down celtics net xg further. this might sound controversial , but the smartest tactical mind in Scottish football , is currently the stand in manager at aberdeen. he has shown the league how to play celtic , what i call zydeco tactics , which i might explain some other day , and clement pretty much reverted to a badly executed version in the cup. next season could be even trickier if the rest of the league follows suite. the numbers dont lie, celtic only dropped points this season , when either palma, orily , and hatates attacking contribution started approaching 1 goal or lower per 90mins through injury or opposition blocking tactics , so celtic have to buy xg chance creation in the summer transfer window , and make sure the destroyer of opposition xg , kwon , plays a part . he is still celtics fastest and strongest mid . hh to gav and all the team , all the best , and i will try and be more involved next season
