Cannington Lane Viaduct - Lyme Regis light railway - 12 Aug 2024
The Cannington Lane Viaduct, completed in 1902, was a key component of the Axminster & Lyme Regis Light Railway. The 7 mile single track was opened with great fanfare on 24 August1903 and the last train ran on 27 November 1965. Today the viaduct stands like a lonely sentinel in the East Devon landscape.

    Great video and very interesting what you you do at the end with opening up the regulator which I think is over looked when the power of the gun is a bit up and down. I'm surprised at the recoil but you don't mention what power the gun is running at. I've dropped my power down from 11.5 to 11.2 and the gun is smoother to shoot. Finally, I think that you can check the regulator by looking at the manometer needle on the cylinder when the gun is fired.

    • @MartinHealy
      @MartinHealy Před 15 dny

      Hi, My HW100 is running at 11.6ftlb. You raise a good point about adjusting the power down - depending on your choice of pellets you may find that you shoot tighter groups at lower velocities. The pressure gauge on the cylinder will only give you an idea about the pressure in the cylinder - you will always need to top up the cylinder before the cylinder pressure drops below the regulator pressure (around 90BAR). I would advise extreme caution when checking the pressure on the cylinders since you are effectively looking down the barrel! Never fire the gun while checking the gauge!! In part 3 of this series of videos I fit an external gauge on to the block to accurately read the regulator pressure. Enjoy your shooting. All the best, Martin

      Hi Luke, I confess that I don't know much about the origins of Morris or how it has developed. Some claim the origins go back to the 15th century while others claim that it may even have been part of Druid rituals. One thing is for certain it is continuously evolving. I read that there may now be up to 800 sides in the UK and the variety of styles is huge. I personally love all the styles from the costumes that are predominantly white with flowers and straw hats through to the blacks and dark greens with ivy and deer antlers. All the best, Martin

    Wow! that's a lot of competitors/ runners taking part, more than the Colyton Tractor Run, I counted at this years Colyton Tractor Run of only 95 tractors? That's a drop from the usual 120, also it is later than usual when it used to be at the end of May? That high crane has been in Seaton for a while, looks like they are building either high-rise flats ( ruining the place) or accommodation, I like the New Aldi store in Seaton, nice and laid back. Enjoyed your video - who doesn't look at vintage tractors and get a smile on their face? Apart from when you are stuck behind them for miles on narrow lanes!! Yes, Seaton is changing. Apart from the steel frame building that you mentioned there is also a large development along the Axe Estuary near the harbour. But we can't hold back time. All the best, Martin

I'm so pleased you enjoyed my Colyton Tractor Run video I did. Also speaking of Colyton, they have had problems with the water, on Saturday when I went home the road was shut, at the campsite the water was turned off for hours, it is so annoying when it causes so much inconvenience.

    Well done. EXC ELLENT PRESENTATION. MY HW has a leak which I suspect is from the stem valve. The original leaks from the feeder airinlet valve and the air cylinder inlet valve of the heavy original air cylinder. The seals of the valve connecting to the regulator has been replaced. But thanks to you I discoveded a polyuethane zeal under the ball in this valve. Mario from Malta

    • @MartinHealy
      @MartinHealy Před 2 měsíci

      Hi Mario, I am glad that the videos have been useful. If you suspect a leak from the firing valve try putting a delayed balloon or thin sandwich bag over the end of the barrel and securing it with a few turns of elastic band. With the cocking lever closed any escaping air will travel through the transfer port and down the barrel. After a day even a tiny leak will start to inflate the balloon. All the best from the UK to Malta, Martin

      Hi Loiuse, Lovely to hear from you and thank you for sharing about Sam Edwards. I am not sure if you are aware of the book 'To Buy a Whole Parish' by Nicky Cambell RIP. Page 156 is devoted to Sam and Maud Edwards. Sam was clearly a much loved man in Rousdon and the surrounds. He had a roguish sense of humour. Sam was initially the boatman and later a game keeper (and poacher!) on the Rousdon Estate. I don't know where the Edward's original cottage stood in the undercliff but on the path down to the beach there is a large slumped area which is clearly the result of a landslip and there are some dressed stones indicating that there was a structure there. Unfortunately, the path is currently closed due to a recent landslip. I have made a quick survey of St Pancras church graveyard but could not see a headstone indicating Sam's resting place. Hi Lee Yu, Hedgehogs are fairly tough creatures. I have filmed hogs and foxes feeding together in the forest. Occasionally the foxes pawed the hog which rolled in to a protective ball. The foxes rapidly lost interest in the hog and returned to the food I had put out for them. So unless your dogs are particularly aggressive they may be able to co-exist. I would suggest that you could try putting out a dish of wet dog food or kitten biscuits. I put an upturned plastic box over the food bowl with a 13cm square hole cut in one end through which the hogs enter. I was led to believe that when the cylinder is totally empty to set up the block you had to cock the gun for the first nfill

    • @MartinHealy
      @MartinHealy Před 10 měsíci

      Hi George, When the cylinder is completely empty there is only the spring pressure behind the firing valve forcing it in to valve seat and it doesn't make a solid seal. If air is just trickled into the cylinder it can leak past the firing valve. When air is rapidly introduced to the cylinder the pressure behind the firing valve rises rapidly and the valve is forced firmly into the valve seat making a seal. However, this is the only time that I would recommend filling rapidly and only until there is say 50BAR in the cylinder. All the best, Martin

      Hi Patrick, Yes, the food does look odd filmed under IR light but it is wet dog food topped off with kitten biscuits. The complete food biscuits are good for the hogs teeth. I have made more chicane defences outside the box to make it too difficult for the cats to get in. For the last two nights the cats have been defeated. All the best, Martin

      Hi again Bradley, Yes this cat Billy has found a reliable food source and has become a bit of a nuisance raiding the food meant for the hogs. He is a really beautiful cat but he doesn't belong to me and I know that his owner doesn't want him to be fed at other houses. I have been increasing the barriers around the feeders to try to stop him getting in and scoffing all the grub. I think that I have recently succeeded but I am still putting the camera out every night to monitor what happens in and around the feeders. All the best to you Bradley.

      Hi, Glad that you found the videos useful. You raise an important point about wearing safety glasses. I totally agree. Although I did urge everyone to be cautious and not work on the gun while pressurised I should have also urged people to wear safety glasses. I will now add this advice in the video description. By the way, I do practice what I preach and I always insist that my grandchildren wear safety glasses whenever we are shooting even if the chances of a ricochet are very low. All the best, Martin

    Hi Martin, my Dad would watch a lot of your airgun videos. He is quite elderly now and not great with technology, he’s only just got onto a smart tv and CZcams in the last year, he is enquiring if you have your videos backed onto dvd as he is looking to purchase them. I think there’s one HW100 video in particular is he looking to have on dvd to always have and watch when suits. I’ve created him a CZcams channel and shown him how to subscribe etc and I’ve explained I could back them onto a usb drive but he’s dead cert on having it on dvd lol if it’s at all possible could you please let me know one way or the other, tia.

      Hi, I am sorry that I can't offer a DVD - it has been around 15 years since I produced DVDs and I no longer have DVD authoring software. However, your idea of downloading the HW100 files and storing on a USB stick is a good alternative. If you inserted the USB stick into your father's Smart TV he could could watch them on demand as often as he liked. Since your father is into guns he may enjoy one of my other CZcams channels that has lots of CO2 pistol reviews and pellet testing etc. See link below to a playlist to help you find the channel.. czcams.com/video/PGKyDTvXN3U/video.html Apologies again for being unable to help in this instance. Hi Sean, Glad that you found these HW100 videos helpful (this is the 3rd part in a series of videos). Good luck with your rebuild. I would highly recommend that you get the reg pressure gauge because it is such a helpful diagnostic tool apart from being essential for accurately setting the reg pressure. Enjoyed your videos too. One thing that I would recommend is adding a 20 second blank clip (often called a generator) or a photo at the end of your videos. This then allows you to put on an end screen in CZcams without it covering up the end of your video. All the best, Martin

    What a great series of videos. I spent an afternoon partially servicing my Hw100 with these seals today, I felt your pain with regards to the breach seal, it was so annoying to get out. At one point I was convinced there wasn't even one in there at all? Countless broken cocktails sticks later, I resorted to a dentists pick, very effective. Getting the new one back in was a pain too, I found holding the seal in place with two cottonbuds, one at each end, worked like a charm, went in first try. Sadly my service didn't solve the weird air leak I encounter when filling to over 160bar. Glad yours worked out though, I said "YES!" out loud to myself as the reg gauge pinged back to 90bar after your first shot :) I may have to look at dismantling that brass valve on my rifle too.

    • @MartinHealy
      @MartinHealy Před rokem

      Hi Alf, I sent a reply to your comment on Part 2 of this series so I am pasting it here again in case you didn't see it: There are a number of factors that could be causing the low muzzle energy. Assuming that you haven't recently changed the pellets you are using then other possibilities are that the regulator pressure is low (below the 95-100BAR I would expect), or possibly low hammer spring pressure or a combination of factors. I would recommend that you start the diagnosis by obtaining a pressure gauge to measure the regulator pressure. If the regulator pressure is significantly low then a regulator service will be required. If however, the regulator pressure is consistent from shot to shot and the pressure is in the 95-100BAR range then it is likely that the hammer spring needs adjusting and or the hammer assembly needs degreasing/cleaning and adjusting. You will see me use the regulator pressure gauge in Part 3 of this video series. I am also assuming that you serviced the brass inlet valve as you see me do In Part 3 from the 22 minute point. Did you change the seal inside the brass inlet valve? Hope that this helps. All the best, Martin
