David Prisant
“The risk is low, the reward is huge.”
After years of enjoying what he jokingly refers to as his 4 food groups, David Prisant had a heart attack in 2011. When his doctor urged him to get serious about his weight, he reached out to Dr. Chris Smith at Albany Surgical about the Orbera® weight loss balloon. David lost over 25% of his weight, stopped needing so many prescription drugs and as he says: “When I look in the mirror…now I see David, and I like it.”

I was just prescribed this medicine by a gastroenterologist. She wants me to take 20 mgs. for the rest of my life due to finding my biopsy indicated Barratt's Esophagus (non-dysplasia). I don't have any serious 'gerd' problems but came up positive for an at home color-guard test and have another colonoscopy/endoscopy scheduled for 5/21/24. I don't think I want to take Omeprazole for the rest of my life. What are the risks if I don't take it?

I'm so disappointed with the Drs never mentioned my issues of malabsortion from this medication. Gone for iv transfusion for severly low iron. 25 years on this med . I had stopped completly taking the med and don't advise as acids are flooding up to your mouth non-stop . Do it slowly. It's been 2.5 months and still with issues with some days worse than others . I tried Pepsid for 5 weeks but it caused issues with kidney and bladder so I went back to nexium but lowered from 40 to 20mg . Hes right your muscle becomes weak and doesn't open and close properly. What a battle to get off this med. I totally lost faith in the drug companies.

I’ve been prescribed a PPI for 14 years! Only recently did I learn they’re for short term use. I’ve tried so many times to get off them by weaning down and every time it fails. And it was likely a weak LES from pregnancy that caused the GERD. And that’s fixable. There’s no reason for me to be on these meds. But nobody ever decided to figure out the cause of the GERD. I’m so sick from these meds. IBS, SIBO, malabsorption, iron deficiency, etc.

I am with you sane here . Actually today I read a medical journals from two doctors and these damn PPI’s actually weaken, the LES the PPI remove the acid out of your stomach. You need that acid and acid in your stomach to fight off infections and a whole host of other things. I don’t know how I’m gonna do, but I’m gonna try to wean myself off I have an endoscopic this Monday, January 15, 2024. Stay informed. Its a billion $$ dollar industry. By taking PPI long-term, you’re trading that in for IBS .

Why would a gastroenterologist prescribe me 40 mg for 1 year? I was supposed to take 1 each day but I couldn't bc my food wouldn't digest. I ended up taking 1 every 3or4 days and I thought I was fine. After one and a half years now, I've been diagnosed with stage 3 kidney failure. I failed to read the warning of this med. This video is old but is the most informative and real honesty video i have seen to date on reflux! When he said there was a link with heart arrhythmia and low magnesium due to the PPI, the penny dropped for me! I have been on the PPI between 1-2 years but have recently been diagnosed with heart arrhythmia. Couldn't understand where it came from as no history of heart problems in family. Tried operation to treat but could not treat it and have been advised that it is quite common for it to return, even after a successful surgical procedure to treat. Now I'm on 2 sets of different meds to treat the arrhythmia and may need more if the current meds not manage it? My reflux problem had slowly gotten worse to the point that it came up my throat constantly through the day, leaving a fowl green taste at back of mouth and started to change my voice and irrigate it. Hugely anxious about coming off the PPI (in case of severe rebound) and how to go about it? I've gone and seen a specialist, and have had the camera placed down throat in to my stomach. He couldn't give any explanation for my reflux problems and would only dismiss my concerns about being on PPI long term. Wish there was a specialist near me with the same professional care, honesty and understanding as the specialist in this video!

Reflux was good for a while but they did not fix my 3 cm hiatal hernia at the time ( California Doctor consulted with my Ct. Doctor I was first in Ct to have the surgery) consulting Doctor said they don’t do that. Now years after reflux again now on rabeprozole 20 mg 2 times a day, also taking B12 shots. @@braciole7667 Hi, It's pretty much what they always say to avoid, the trick is just to do it, even if it's a boring diet. That certainly means no sugars. So no candy, sodas or fast foods, no oils. Eat whole foods and veggies. Drink water. It sounds cliché, but if you do this, and you don't have an underlying cause of your reflux, it will go away, as it did for me. And if I ate unhealthily again, within a few days, the reflux was back. And then I ate healthy again, and the reflux was once again gone, so for me, it was a 100% diet. Good luck, let me know.

Along with adjusting my diet to remove as much sugar as possible and taking one dose of magnesium indigestion liquid before bed and I've never felt better in years. I would wake up and immediately feel discomfort in my stomach on ppi. Then throughout the day I just didn't feel right and I became determined to get off them and fix the route of the problem if I could. It does annoy me though my GP would be happy to give me them indefinitely and almost all of my family and friends, especially the men, take PPI long term.
