ABT has a fantastic selection of all major appliances.
Using this affiliate link to purchase your next appliance is a huge help to the channel and I appreciate it very much.
Maybe this is your first French Door refrigerator or perhaps you're upgrading your existing French Door, this video is my thoughts as a technician and what I tend to consider when recommending a new refrigerator for my customers.
French door refrigerators, and deciding what to buy, can often be very overwhelming when trying to decide.
There are so many features, often sharing many of the same appliance features.
Do I get a refrigerator with water in the door?
Should I buy a French door refrigerator with 2 ice makers?
And even though the choices between the French door refrigerators may look the same, they are often drastically different in design often coming with many draw back that may not be immediately obvious when first owning your new refrigerator.
While this is not an in-depth buyer's guide for your next refrigerator purchase, it does make sense to do a little research on your new French Door refrigerator purchase before you buy.
If you have any questions about what I might recommend a specific model, please don't hesitate to leave it in the comments and I'm glad to give my opinions on specific refrigerator designs.
Some of the more troublesome features with French Door Refrigerators typically come from:
Defrost drain line clogs/water leaking from the front of the refrigerator (water collecting under the drawers or trays)
Warmer outside air leaking in to the fresh food ice maker compartment causing frost build up, leaking refrigerant out of the evaporators/evaporator leaks, Defrost issues/ice buildup hitting evaporator fan blades, and more.
Feel free to leave a comment if you have any specific questions and I'm glad to help.

Hello Andy. Sorry for my bad written English.Thank you very much for your wonderful videos. I live in Greece, Athens.i have a candy refridgerator model:ckcn202ix/1 serial number:34002146. I bought it in 2017.And now it has defrost issues. Every one-two months (especially during winter)i have to defrost it manually Because i find water leaking from the freezer's door. When i take out the evaporator's cover ,i find ice between the heater and the drain pipe(i dont know if it is the right word). No ice on the heater and on the evaporator. I meazured by multimeter the resistance of the defrost sensor and found 2000ohms at room temperature(25°C).it must had 2200ohms.it is in the tolerance of 10% so i assume that the defrost sensor is fine. I measured recently the resistance of the heater and found 347 ohms.the heater has a small label on the cable .it writes 230v 160 w.I also connect the heater directly to the plug (230volts) for about 4 minutes.it didnot become orange and meazured 70°C on the heater by pistol gun thermometer.i also measured the current by multimeter which was 0,67Amperes. I think that the problem is in the power control board and i bought a new defrost relay in order to change the old one. I cant find the manual in order to put the fridge in defrost mode and measure the output voltage of the old relay.i meazured only it's resistance(on the board) and found it correct in comparison with it's technical datasheet. I would like to have your opinion, too. Thank you very much in advance. Available for any further information.

What do you do if the return air vent is frosted over? Mine had ice built up, so I removed the initial blockage, and then tried pouring hot water into the hole (I saw this method on another CZcams video), but the water is just pooling and won't go down and drain out into the pan under the fridge. I used a blow dryer for about 10 minutes, but it didn't fix it.

I have a whirlpool side by side, model ed5vhexvq01. Recently, the fridge started getting colder. Freezer still working great. Fridge temp went up to 60. I cleaned the coils in front and behind/under and got the freezer drain unclogged with a blow dryer and hot water. The temp went down to about 52 and has stayed there for a couple days. When I turn the temp control knob to the fridge, I didn't see the damper door moving at all. Should it move when I turn the knob?

Well put together video. I wish there was another way to test the relay without having to own a power supply. Seems to me that most people who own a power supply, would probably already know how to do this. Was hoping to find a way that a normal DIY person could check a relay. Your video was very clearly explained and very well spoken. I just don't have a power supply thingy, I'm not a electrical tech. 😕 I wish I did because I could definitely follow your video to test this relay. Your good at explaining stuff. Keep up the good work! 😁 ( Could I use a 12V battery to test it or would that break something? )

My refrigerator died on me after I turned the breaker on and off. Checked my control board immediately and the two resistors were both burnt up. I immediately ordered another control board. When I put it in I still had the same problem, the lights are on but nothing else. I did some more research and troubleshot it to my inverter board and that didn’t change anything either. Stumbled across this video and saw that my control board isn’t send 12-14v on J2. So i assumed the new one I had was also bad and ordered another one. Just put it in and I’m still in the same position I was 2 weeks ago.. Please somebody help me.

I have a new bar fridge, it is clean and undamaged. No cooling - the evaporator plate at back is not cold. It is more or less room temperature inside. But compressor runs and gets hot. It draws 80 watts, which is the specs for the model compressor used. No oil seeping out solder joints on piping. So what is going on? Is the expansion valve faulty?

Hello, I have an 18-year old whirlpool refrigerator model GS6NBEXRS00. It is not defrosting. I replaced the defrost thermostat but the old one actually tested ok. I have a 25 Ohms resistance on the heating element, so I believe it is good. What do you think is the problem? 1) Freezer sensor/thermistor (where is this on my ref?) 2) Adaptive defrost control board (where is this on my ref?) 3) Or the main control board (where is this on my ref?). It looks this the control boards for my ref are no longer available, so maybe just replace the whole ref with a new one. Kindly advise. Thanks

Hi, thanks for informative video! Question, are all three readings on the multimeter supposed to be the same? When testing the last wire(brown) which I believe is the evap coil sensor, it’s about half of the other amounts at 0.5. The other two are about 1.4.. does is mean that the coil sensor is bad? For context, the defrost heater element isn’t turning on during the cycle.. I did the continuity test in other vid so I think the thermostat is ok? Thanks for your time, and any help/info.!

The fridge section on my GE monogram was only getting to about 45 degrees. I had a tech replace the circuit board yesterday because he said it was bad and not allowing the bottom vent to open and circulate air. He replaced the board then instructed me to let it thaw over night. This morning I turned it on, checked back in an hour, the freezer was certainly getting cold but the fridge still isnt... I looked at the bottom vent and it is closed. Should it be closed when the fridge is still at 66 degrees and assuming "wanting to cool" or should it be opened? I would assume open bc its trying to cool both the freezer and the fridge. My only thought is maybe it needs to get freezer to a certain degree (currently at 22) then it will open the vent. I may be jumping the gun but hoping I do not need to pay more $ to fix this issue. Any input would be appreciated... I will check the fridge again in 2 hours. (currently at 22 freezer, 66 fridge)
