Good video Davy, Just had a problem with a Stalon that ended with a blown primer at 6 months old. Wild cat EVO end blew off. Like my ASE JET Z over 6,000 rounds and still perfect, down side a bit on heavy side.
Excellent video David, it's always interesting and I learn a lot, so thanks for that.. Catch you on your next video 👍👌✌️
Great show, I'm a bit late coming to the party but I'm here now😂😂 great information and advice Davy, I'm relatively new to shooting, well about a year or so now but I'm totally into it big time🤣🤣 like you said in your video some of the prices of scopes are totally ridiculous 🤣🤣 4-5-6 grand and there's one just coming out at 7 grand.. I mean you'd have to be loaded to afford that kind of price, and just to shoot from a bench🤣🤣🤣 if I bought a Scope at those prices I would want it to be able to give me a blow job and make my dinner and shoot with it😂😂😂 anyway I really enjoy your channel and your Scottish so double thumbs up.. Catch you on your next video.. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.. 👍👌✌️
Hi Johnny , thank you for tuning in glad you got something from it , it has always been a minefield the scope market when it comes to pricing and unfortunately I do not see that change much BUT that is why I started this channel, like you I cant afford a couple of grand for a scope and I am not willing to get finance on one and put myself into debt either, not putting those down for doing that just not for me , gladly though you are going to see some very exceptional scopes come out under the £1000 mark so watch this space and if there is any advice on anything needed give us a shout . regards DT
Well said Davy, each to their own I suppose Eh, if a guy wants to buy a 5 grand Scope and he can afford it and loves his shooting and has a passion for it and wants the best of kit, then why not, you canny really knock him for that.. Like you said that's not for me.. 👍👍 And Yeh I've only seen 2 of your videos so far, the one yesterday and the one before about Zeroing your Rifle, I learned a lot from both videos, so I do appreciate the time and effort you put into it and I thank you for that 👍👍👍 I will check out your back catalogue and play catch up for a whike 😀😀lol.. Have a great Sunday Davy.. I'm out in New Stevenston 2 Miles outside Motherwell.. I'm from the Shire 😂😂😂lol.. 👌✌️👍

Thanks Davy, I might catch up with you one day 😂😂 sorry l don't do Facebook but I will tune into your show when it pops up 👍👍Also that was really nice of you to get back to me, I wasn't expecting a reply so that's pretty cool cause your a busy guy and can't reply to everyone.. So thanks for that. Anyway over and out for now Davy, and good luck with your shooting adventures and your show.. 👍✌️👌
Another informative video Davy. To much choice out there doesn't help in deciding on a scope
@allygt4 that's the issue they throw all sorts at you when there's only so much you need . Know too many guys stalking with Target scopes they will never use properly
So I have had the 5-20 Zulus since April and I am wondering if it has the laser IR or LED IR? How can I tell? Arken doesn't give that spec that I could find on their website? If it doesn't have the laser you think they will swap what I have for a laser unit?
@Albiemanmike not sure as Arken now have been bought over by DNT, however the 520 was inly sold with the Vscel laser IR so the likelihood hood is that your fine . What makes you think you have the LED IR? Welcome to send me a video of the IR at work. Remember the IR is zoomable, range has to be also focused on the scope and you have different intensities as well as screen brightness on the scope.
I was there in golspie
It was a good day out
Arken/DNT have announced that the 3-12 model will now be shipped with the Vcsel. So make sure you check b4 you buy what you're getting. I recently purchased the 3-12, complained to seller and they sent me the Vcsel as they're aware of the problem.
@@darrena8116 they listened to my bitching lol
@FieldsportsScotland ... mine to..lol... I messaged the Director of Arken and complained, we had a lengthy chat at 4.00 in the morning..🙈
@darrena8116 you gotta love those chats at 4am I spent from midnight one night to 7am chatting and sending videos. I actually didn't mind as it made sure they were getting all the stuff they need Smith has always been very chatty. Just not sure if the dynamics now they have changed
The sensor is the same in both the 5-20 and the 3-12. It's the shorter focal length of the objective lens on the 3-12 that both reduces the base magnification and increases the field of view That results in the 3-12 having a slightly less detailed image than the 5-20 throughout their magnification ranges. The only time both scopes have the same magnification is at x7.5 and at that magnification the image on the 5-20 is noticeably sharper than on the 3-12
Yerp
Nice review 👌
I always turn the caller off when i first catch glimpse of the fox then pull it in with a mouth call.
@ArtisOutdoors that's actually a very good technique I kinda do the same just use the back of my hand .
My 3x12 will range to 4 yards ,what they need to do is make a 3 x 20 ,best of both worlds
Not happening, since that would requires x7 digital zoom, which would result in a horribly pixellated image at x20
@brucemcpherson8832 if the kept to the same amount of zooms it could work
@@crazycressy7986 No. The base magnification is a mathematical function of the size of the sensor and the focal length of the objective lens. Both the 3-12 and 5-20 use the same size sensor so it's the shorter focal length of the objective lens on the 3-12 that gives it a base magnification of x3 compared to the base magnification of x5 on the 5-20. Digital scopes don't have optical zoom,. they only have digital zoom and both the 3-12 and 5-20 have x4 digital zoom which is what makes the x3 base mage 3-12 (3x4=12) and the x5 base mag 5-20 (5x4=20) So, contrary to your idea, both scopes already have the same amount of zoom. In case you don't know, digital zoom works by reducing the number of sensor pixels used to create the image, but displays that reduced number of pixels over the whole of the screen As digital zoom is increased, objects do appear larger but they don't appear any clearer (as they would with optical zoom in a glass scope) . In fact the opposite happens - they become more and more fuzzy. You could increase the level of digital zoom to x5 which would make the 3-12 into a 3-15 and the 5-20 into a 5-25, or even increase the digital zoom to x6 which would make the 3-12 into a 3-18 and the 5-20 into a 5-30, but it would be pointless since at those levels of digital zoom the image would be so bad that you would not be able to make out any potential targets
I love my 3x12 but only gripe I have is the red ballistic cross hair is hard for me to see as I am red green colour blind, if I could use the white cross with a yellow ballistic cross that would be great
@@crazycressy7986 that must be difficult .
Two options: 1. Switch on the Picture in Picture (PiP) mode and shoot using the reticle in the PiP Window 2. Switch to dial in mode and the reticle will move to the point of aim, so there is no holdover mark In each of those cases you can have the reticle in colour you can see easily
@FieldsportsScotland it's a pain in the butt I can't see if the virgin box is on or off lol I can see them like on traffic lights but it's when it's small and mixed with other colours
@brucemcpherson8832 yes I had PIP on ,but I also prefer the hold over cross as well as then I know it's ranged for me as sometimes it don't always work it you don't press the button right "not a fault with the scope but a fault with the operator " 😅
@crazycressy7986 exactly why I prefer the hold over cross
One feature I do like is the auto IR setting. Great review by the way. 👌

Good video Davy, I am at the foxes all year, just what you said once you get the numbers down you can chill a bit.
What would your opinion be on the “influencer” part of product sales/development? And competitions are always fun. Enjoying listening mate. Keep it up👍
It's a tough one I think, it is one thing putting a product out there for review and test but to saturate the market with everyone in the business testing a product can be detrimental. I am not against it but there is and always will be biias's and that is difficult to navigate, me personally I am never under any obligation to give a product a good review, I tend not to publish a product if it is bad and I have had many that I just don't publish a review on.
Hi guys how long does the battery last would i get 8 hours stalking out of it or would it run out currently using the zeiss battery life not as long as id like
Easily but it takes 18650 battery so you can take a couple in your pocket
@@FieldsportsScotland thank you very much
@jonathondunne1905 the beauty of these is that it is not run by proprietary batteries that require you to spend a fortune on 1 spare battery , 18650 batteries are far less expensive and easier to get and you can throw a few in your pocket.
So which is best? the hikmicro or the new pard nightstalker 4k?
That I can't answer
Sorry it's just that it's down to personal preference and usage . The Alpex is fantastic all round but as standard doesn't come with an IR and is quite heavy so you might not want to use it on an air rifle for example but perfect on a centrefire
Good video Davy. Some shops will mail order powder but not cheap, that is England not sure about anywhere else. Can't wait for the video on the electronic calls.
Ally thankyou mate gonna do a full video next week on calls and the the best ones to use at this time of year
THANKS GOD. Dude, I received my 3-12 a few days ago and was about to mail my seller to tell him my scope has probably a problem cause I can't see shit past 100m when on CZcams ppl could see at like 400m. I finally know why, this is just this crappy LED IR instead of laser one. Thanks a lot for this video, I thought I was going crazy but no, this is just this IR that sucks. Greetings from France !
Hi there yes the LED is less effective than the laser but the scope itself is capable of far more .
Would you recommend this over the ATN 4k or the sightmark wraith 4k? ALSO, how was the eye relief, is it enough to put on something like a 6.5 grendel? 🤔
Yes . The picture is clearer and more full .
@@FieldsportsScotland Excellent. I have been going back and forth between the wraith 4k max, the zulus, or the ATN. I do fear the battery life on this one but I guess you could always use an external IR and just use the scope on night mode.
@@FieldsportsScotland Do you think that it is worth the extra money to get the LRF and ballistics calculator? My primary range would be 20-200 yards daytime, deer some nighttime coyote and hogs still in that same range though.

Grisport are Italian. I think they make a lot from the bulk PPE market. My work issues hundred of pairs of them (and the guys prefer them to Red Wing!). Shooter king stuff is great.
Is that the short saddle or long saddle mount?
As in the American defence mount? Long 0moa mount
Bought myself one last month. Yet to use but least I know it will work!
Could you take a photo of the two ir units showing the part numbers you are referring to please? I am in Australia and I think our version of the 5-12 zulus may have the led version. I am not getting the image quality you are getting out of the laser unit.
I can put up pictures . The models I have are the ZHD520R and the 3-12R the 3-12 I have us supplied with 850nmL led Ir and the 520 has 850nm laser
Mine is the 5-12 lrf also, but the picture quality is not like yours
@chrismann9411 you must have the LED IR if you contact Arken they can replace it
@@chrismann9411So the quality on yours is no good mate? I’m looking at getting one myself, I’m in Aus too
Hi Davey, I came across your channel a few months ago and subscribed as I found the content really useful and informative. You come across as knowledgeable, but above all honest and genuine. Keep it up and I'll keep learning, thanks.
Hi Brian thankyou , trying to be as down to earth as possible and honest . Just remember with everything though opinions are subjective make sure if your buying something it's for you . I review stuff and try to be well rounded about it but I admit I make just as many mistakes as the next person. Stay safe . DT
It is 1st focal plane, you can switch it in the app, put a 3.6 inch circle out a 100 yards then check it put the cross hair on the top edge of the circle, than you should be on the bottom of the circle with the first mildot down, then zoom in and check that they still align up
Great video as always! I have one to switch between my .243 and .308, the difference at last light is literally day and night. I don’t think i could get rid of my day scope quite yet though.
CANT USE 223 IN ENGLAND FOR ROE MY CHOICE AFTER TRYING DIFF CALIBRES IS A 270 THIS MAINLY FOR REDS AND A FEW ROE IM IN CORNWALL VERY HILLY LOTS OF VALLYS I FIND THE FLAT SHOOTING AND SPEED OF THE 270 IS IDEAL AND 223 FOR FOXING
Which would you say has a better picture/view at higher magnification, the arken or pulsar c50?

Well looking forward to that one for sure cheers 👍
Great review mate. The fact I can have one of these scopes and have setting saved for say an air rifle, 17 hmr and 243 is a game changer meaning one scope fits all. And the ballistic calculator is a cracking addition. Defo on my shopping list.
3-12 on the 17hmr is the most obvious match
Grate podcast! As a newcomer to the sport the podcasts are very helpful. Suggestion for a video probably more for a select few a podcast on how to become a professional deer stalker/contract stalker and what qualifications you need ? And if it’s possible to do so later on in life ect ?
I can certainly put it as one of the the features in a podcast .
