My husband passed away April 1, 2019. For too many years he was the unhappiest person I knew. He could not hunt, fish, garden or do any other actiities because of sever pain all through his body. THEN cardio related dementia set in. Priior to the dementia we had talked with his doctor many, many times. We had often talked about MAID and all his specialists and GP agreed that this is certanly an option for him. His last specialist appointment was with a psychiatrist who asked him a zillion questions. I sat in on the appointment but said nothing - it was my husband's appointment, not mine. After that interview the psychiatrist agreed that my husband understood his reasoning for choosin MAID and agreed. So hubby chose a date and it happened. I did not want him to pass away but I knew and understood how he felt. But it was not my body in agony and depression so the whole family gathered around him in support. We had a wonderful weekend together outside at his care residence laughing, reminiscing and loving. MAID was incredibly apeaceful procedure and I want careivers to know and remember that it is totally the patients' wishes that should be respected. Four years later (we were married 54 years) I still miss him, talk to him and love him but I know that he has been finally at peace and that is how this MAID program helped him. Hugs and peace to all. His body, his life, his decision.

I have MCI, and I have many of these symptoms. I’m younger than people normally are when they get this, and I’m able to keep myself relatively physically well. This causes social problems for me because I appear fine, and people don’t understand and I have little support. In fact, people get angry and frustrated with me because I’m apathetic and find it difficult to plan things and go out. I have lost a lot of skills and the ability to keep my belongings organized. The pressure that is put on me makes this much more difficult.
