Beautiful but hazardous trip into a wildlife refuge, filled with birds, jumping fish, gorgeous scenery, and hidden stumps, logs and branches to try to avoid; but they are nearly impossible to see through the reflections and murky water so we ran up on some, and hit some pretty hard with the electric motor.

    • @RonNehrig
      @RonNehrig Před měsícem

      I don't use "only" the throttle, I just use it as pedal assist when I'm trying to go slow, or going up hills. I am always pedaling at a moderate level, both for the exercise, and to extend my range, since my rides are usually long (30-50 miles).

It is flat on top but 50-ft+ very steep to get there. I'm 71 and will only get older. Waiting to get some zip ties for temporary "parking brakes" before I try again. But then what? A boat winch?

    • @RonNehrig
      @RonNehrig Před měsícem

      Don't know what kind of e-trike you have. Does it have gears to shift down to pedal on hills with power assist, or a walk mode on the control buttons to power it up a hill while you walk beside?

      Saw your rock hit in the jetboat. Nice video, but bummer about the damage. My jet boat videos are back in 2015, a Merc 60/40 on a SeaArc RXJT 170, which I took to Ten Thousand Islands NWR in Florida. That was a wheel steer, which I don't like on a JetDrive, a tiller would be more agile. This entire side of the lake is Idle Zone, which is good and bad. It stops a lot of people from coming up here, so we usually have the creek to ourselves on a weekday morning. It takes longer to get anywhere, but I like the quiet from running on electric so it's okay on this creek which isn't all that long, and I keep getting stopped by Log Jams. My other videos in this boat go back to 2021. This is a Lowe 1448 with a Merc 15 propeller, which will drive this boat about 22 mph. My goal for this boat was smaller, lighter, cheaper, simpler. Great boat. Hated the SeaArc which had paint that rubbed off on everything.

      I did get better at holding the throttle at a low speed, using it for pedal assist, so that helped a lot. For long slow stretches I still would turn down the max speed limit to make it more manageable at low speeds.Too bad, this is a simple design fix.

    • @RonNehrig
      @RonNehrig Před 5 měsíci

      I make all of my own bread, and use only grain I have milled in a Womdermill, so I regularly mill many kinds of wheat; white, red, Khorasan, Durum, Spelt, as well as Oats and Corn, some I grew, some I didn't. I've never seen pebbles in any of it, so sifting them out has not been a concern for me. I don't know what size pebbles you are concerned with, but my first thought to sift that finely would be 1/8" Hardware cloth (which is actually heavy steel screen), I think that would let wheat through; it is stiff enough that you could probably cut a square and bend the edges up into a shallow box, though you would probably want to tape the edges with a thick tape like Gorilla tape to prevent getting cut on it, or maybe fasten a piece to the bottom of cardboard box with the bottom cut out.

The bike parts just came last week so the bike is okay now, but the weather has turned cold. The new riser seat post is in the previously mentioned video; it lets me set the seat height from the handlebar based on conditions, I really only need it All the way up when I'm peddling fast, medium peddling I can have it in the middle; Off road or stopping I can lower it. My fall was caused by a number of things, one was breaking up concrete near the mailbox that the tire fell into, one was a seat set very high for a fast ride, one was being tired from 55 miles. @@RonNehrig I had my apparently now annual crash shortly after you did. Scrapes and bangs but no dr required. Basically fell over on a hill with seat extended . My new plan: drive in safe places. Lower the seat in any busy or dangerous area. Also: if you’re doing something weird, rethink the plan. We geezers need to avoid unnecessary medical attention. At least you’ve been busy. Glad to hear the recovery is moving along.

      @butchie2752 , glad you didn't get hurt worse. I don't ride in safe places, by default, and that means I do a lot of weird stuff, but there's weird and there's dumb, so I'm going to stay more hydrated, take more breaks, and try not to do something dumb because I'm mentally tired. Also I will lower the new dropper seat from the handlebar whenever I might need to reach the ground from the seat, that's very useful; still, it only goes down to 34" and that would be pretty high for a motorcycle seat for someone my height, but it's the best I've got. Also I got a new iphone with the satellite SOS, which will be a little more useful than my PLB. A lesson to myself was: I crashed at my mailbox, one of the safer places I ride (apparently not); I crashed Because I was feeling safe, like an athlete that approaches the finish line ahead of everyone, that feels the relief of winning and stops focusing on the task to celebrate, then gets passed by several people and loses, or trips and falls down. There is no safe place on a two wheel vehicle, something I am well aware of when I'm riding, but forgot for just a moment.

    Ron my battery % is stuck on 100 any thoughts how to fix

    • @RonNehrig
      @RonNehrig Před 10 měsíci

      I've never heard of that. Have you tried removing the battery from the bike and letting it sit for 10 minutes or so (to let any power charge dissipate in the electronics). You might even push the bike power button for the same reason. And hook the charger to the battery while it's out of the bike (if only for a few minutes) to see if it resets. If you have Bikewise installed on a mobile device it has a power meter in there also; might be interesting to see if that says the same thing.

      Hi Andrew! I've been letting my pelvis heal, since early June, just before this last video. Had to use a walker for 8 weeks to keep weight off the cracked pelvis, so haven't gotten much of anything done. Finally got to move to a cane, and now am walking some without it, though i get sore after a while. Making progress. Just now thinking of trying to get on a bike. Thanks for the thought!

    For the kind of slippery dirt track you are driving dual motor AWD will prevent you sliding and falling. I live in Yukon with steep mountains and AWD is the safest way to travel.

    • @RonNehrig
      @RonNehrig Před 11 měsíci

      Thanks. Unfortunately my two hardest falls were when I was stopped, and the other two were slow and so slippery AWD wouldn't have mattered or may have made it worse since I was turning and the front wheel just washed out. I have been looking at the AR Grizzly and wondering how the lower seating position would be (since a high seat is one the biggest problems), but the smaller tires might be worse on my rough roads, and owners warn about AWD and turning (many have fallen because of it and leave it in RWD unless they need the added power of the front motor), so it may depend on the power of the front motor and how it is applied by the user and the bike. I was mostly interested in the extra power of the second motor for going up steep hills; I also looked at the SparkCycleWorks Bandit, but it is a bit pricey. I did put the new drop post on the Kepler with the remote on the handlebar, so I can lower the seat for stopping and rough terrain, but haven't tried it yet. It took me a while to find tires I like for my mixed terrain riding, and currently have some that are doing the job well without sliding, but that was an important area. What are you riding? I suppose you probably do a lot of snow and chunky gravel?
