Does anyone know what the difference is between the 'center-change' gearbox, and the 'close-ratio' gearbox? And when the change was made to 'close-ratio' gearboxes?

I’ve done a few of those coolant pipes behind the engine. Learned the hard way that it pays to pull off the manifold since that’s the only way to make sure the oring seats correctly in the back of the pump. I also use the dielectric grease since without that it’s impossible

I have a 67 BJ8, very similar wiring, so this was helpful. I've put in blade fuses to the switched components, but the hot (brown wire) leads are unfused as original and concern me a bit. Sorry if I missed it in the various fuses, but did you (or do you recommend) placing an inline fuse in the hot lead going to the ignition switch? Or any other brown lead for that matter? Thanks.

To remove the bearing just put a wooden block against the axle with the axle nut on few turns and install the wheel you took off to press it up agaisnt the block by tightening the wheel nuts. It should remove the hub easily when you tighten the wheel nuts against the block of wood.

Parts stores will usually loan you the tool to do this if you don't have a harbor freight close

I can’t get mine disconnected. Not sure what I’m doing wrong, I’m pulling apart the two pieces you’re showing in the video, but mine won’t unconnected, I’m not that weak.😂 Five minutes later … I decided to use needle nose, pliers… it . Oh well. That was a fun job.😂

Great video and very helpful. Though I've been working on these axles, on and off, for nearly 50 years I've not rebuilt one from scratch before because, back in the day here in the UK, there were many, many small engineering shops all over the country that would provide exchange rebuilt diffs for a very reasonable price. i never had to do the job. But these days there are very few shops that do the job and those that do are expensive. I've replaced bearing and spacers a few times on other diffs with good results using stock replacement parts with little measuring needed. Your video is invaluable.

Should be replacing the rotors too. They wear as well and are meant to be replaced at the same time as the pads.
