Wandering Thoughts about Watersports
This is a quick video where I share my passing thoughts on a comment I had read on Facebook the other day.
I mention about how shallow water lessens our enjoyment and has environmental impact. The impact I'm referring to is scraping our plastic and resin craft over the river bed damaging habitats, fish spawning areas and tearing bits of plastic off our craft, contaminating the water.
Almost all of the Waterways in England and Wales are privately owned or managed. Even if we have an access agreement at one section or area of the water, that does not mean that a different land owner further down or on the opposite bankside allows access. It is a tricky minefield we have to navigate every time we decide to head out to one of our blue spaces.
British Canoeing membership is hands down the best access tool we have as paddlesport enthusiasts and has a wide range of other benefits. If you want to find out more about British Canoeing, membership, and what else they do for the sport, check out the link below:
www.britishcanoeing.org.uk/membership/british-canoeing-membership
(Ignore what I said about the Environment Agency. I got myself confused while walking and talking.)
Fisherman and Anglers have generally been welcoming and pleasant to me and my customers and colleagues when we have been out but there have been some exceptions to that rule, on both sides.

Setting up a simple Hammock in real time - Quechua Hamac Set Up using Cinch Buckles Just a brief intro to how quick and simple it is to set up a Quechua Hamac using Cinch Buckles and roof rack straps. In less than two minutes you can pitch and sit in your hammock using this system and even quicker once you have practiced it a few times. Be sure to choose sturdy anchors like I did in this video....

Whoops - Quechua Hamac Review

Decathlon Quechua Hamac Review Little bit of an impromptu review of the Decathlon Quechua Hamac. Not the original intended video but you need to make the best of a bad situation and laugh at your misfortune. This hammock was way over its 2 year guarantee and been pretty abused in its use, so this review is by no means a negative one. Great little bit of kit for family garden set ups, picnics, d...

Is it suitable for backpacking as well? My only concern is the last of external mesh pockets for water bottles.
Everyone one of the Peak PS garments are made from recycled materials as part of their efforts to make production and impact more sustainable, they have also just released their new “Circular ready” kit which should increase the recyclability of the kit at the end of its lifespan, exciting stuff. My Buoyancy Aid, also made by Peak PS, is designed ready for big days out that may need to carry some extra kit. Including a hydration bladder pouch on the back, two large front pockets big enough for mobile phones or vhf radios, and a few smaller pockets for other essentials such as snacks, knives and karabiners. The Explorer Zip is also ideal because of its low profile, making self-rescue easier and being easy to take on and off, the one-time adjustment of all straps, creating the perfect custom fit. Finally the wild cards of my ensemble, on wet or windy days the mitts help to take the edge off, reducing how cold my extremities get, whilst the open palm construction allows me the best possible grip and tactile sensation ok my paddle compared with conventional gloves and mittens. The Descender wetshoes are the hardiest and most comfortable wetshoes I’ve ever used, great connection to the board whilst still protective enough underfoot for walking, ideal!
What do I wear on a regular paddleboarding trip? From right to left: - Peak PS Stretch Fleece Shorts - Peak PS Bagz H2O - Peak PS Thermal Rashy Long - Peak PS Stretch Fleece Top - Palm Equipment Descender Wetshoes - Ion Open Palm Neoprene Mitts - Peak PS Explorer Zip PFD - Peak PS Reversible Beanie This is my dry/mild weather kit for when I don’t plan to or expect to fall in. I’m super warm enough without losing my mobility like I would with a wetsuit, and I’m able to regulate my temperature better than I can with a DrySuit. I’ve always been a fan of Peak Paddlesport clothing and Buoyancy Aids as they fit my less athletic frame quite well, whilst giving me all the functionality you’d expect from performance gear. Peak PS have even very kindly donated the Beanie and Stretch Fleece Top to me for use on my challenge in April and so far they do not dissapoint! I’ll be sure to drop a review on them very soon, keep your eyes peeled.
Checking out the new version of this gilet they have removed the map pocket
I think they moved the chest pocket to the inside
The new one has mega bomber proper gear loops, only climbed with pack on once but the normal gear loops are much nicer. Where do u buy beads for pacing? i like your set up and i might steal it.
It’s litterly anything where I attach myself to a rope so I can explore (ex reppelling canyoneering mountaineering trad climb top rope to name a few)
Exactly the same here. We just don't get to do it nearly enough. Next year will be so much more active and outdoors.
IT'S BIKING..
Haha we love Biking too! We just don't get to do it that often.
I love it too
It's sooooo good.
cheers mate
I haven't finished watching the video yet, but is it waterproof?
Hi Denis, sorry we haven't replied sooner. No, the Mutant is not a waterproof rucksack. It does have a snow shedding material for its back support and the pack will withstand a gentle shower but the material itself is not waterproof, nor does it have taped seams or a secure roll top closure that you would usually see on a waterproof rucksack. Cheers for your question. Jon
Whats the difference between this and the borealis tour do you know?
Hi Steven, to be honest I'm not sure as I've only looked at the Borealis once in a store. I think the Borealis is maybe more of an all around wind top, while the Momentum is an active wind top with windproof material only on the front panels so sweat escapes easier from the back. One day I might get to try the Borealis and give a review, watch this space.
Good review, thanks. I bought one for hiking and mountain biking nearly a year ago. It gets plenty of use in shoulder season mountain biking where the high collar and soft-shell front is very good for frontal wind protection and the back lets out the heat. It's light for what it does, you can get really thin shells for cycling but they flap annoyingly - -the momentum soft-shell is quiet and rustle free. I also prefer this fabric to the wind stopper membrane jackets that are way too stuffy unless it's a few degrees below zero. It's a bit too warm for cycling on summer but, hey, i am in Australia. I have used it as a base layer for hiking in summer in the mountains and it isn't too bad - the high collar gives good sun protection, but the soft-shell fabric is too clammy for truly hot days.
That's some really great points, I'm in total agreement about these super light windshirts and the conventional soft shells. I bet the sun protection is greatly appreciated out in Australia though.
Hey man. Thanks for such high quality content. Please dont care about the view or subs. Please keep putting more such content
Thank you for the kind words. I will be returning to CZcams and putting some more content out there, just been very busy with work this season.
Just ordered this in steel. Cheers for the review.
No problem. Glad to be of help.
A very big THANK to you, sir! I am amazed to find a review on this ten-year-old version of Osprey Mutant 38, and I found this exact model and even color, that I picked up today from my attic and was delighted to find your very good and excellent review from ten years of use! Wishing you safety, health, and stay blessed! All the best wishes from Sweden!
Thank you so much for your kind words and I hope that we can both get another ten years out of our packs.
Nice vid bro 😁
Loving the "Trevor-cam" ! :-)
My Glen! When did you go for a stroll and shoot this vid
We shot this yesterday. It is the other side of the valley from where we live and absolutely love it. Will be going more often once the weather becomes nicer 😁
@@riveranddaleadventures you're in bingley now right? The glen is great. We live in Baildon and right next to the golf club so it's 2 mins up onto the moor then over the top and down to the glen. Great little walk
@@andrewpitts6851 Thackley but yeah pretty close. We go walking on Baildon Moor and climbing on Baildon Bank quite regularly now (when allowed that is). Small world hey? 😁
Good team effort, buddy!
Thank you. Really getting there with this editing malarkey haha. More adventures to follow now restrictictions reducing!
Noce wee vid dude sweet ass drone shots too what ya got?
Cheers Impala, all borrowed kit for the time being but getting there. Looking forward to your next adventure flick!
Hi. Can you advise what size your wearing on the review and your general measurements?
Hi Steve, the size I am wearing is a UK medium and I am about 5'11" tall, 41 inch chest and 24 inches inner arm to thumb length. The stretch of the fabric has accommodated my lockdown weight gain comfortably but would be better suited for a 38-40 inch chest i reckon. Hope that helps and cheers for the view and comment. 👍😁
I have just purchased one of these in Black. But would love it in Paramo Puffin to over layer my puffin Alta 3jacket.
Maybe if enough of us speak up Paramo will start to offer some other colours 😂 How do you rate the new material? It is softer and more insulated than the new one if memory serves. The Alta 3 is also a superb jacket, hope you enjoy and share many adventures with it.
I’d be really interested in climbing there. I’m local too 👍🏻
Climbed there a few times now. I think it is ok for local climbers but from a group and paying customer point of view the amount of broken glass, beer cans and graffiti would not be inviting. Still got some cracking climbs though.
@@riveranddaleadventures yeah it can be a bit of a mess can’t it. Well I’d happily climb their if you were ever looking to take anyone as I’ve not top roped or done any lead climbing outdoors before.
@@MF-CLIMB Keep an eye out on our Facebook page or website for advertised open events that should be available from Mid April if the government allows. Look forward to getting out on the rock!
@@riveranddaleadventures ok nice I’ll take a look now. Cheers
Nice one dude 😁
Thank you. Now to start working on the next one and make it better than the first haha
Thoroughly enjoyed our climbing there - some great routes, many more to explore!
Sweet vid bro 🤙
Cheers, man. Only wish I'd started posting sooner.
