Hi! We're the wandering railfans. In reality, I'm a dad of two boys who love trains. Always been a railfan myself but the boys got me way more into it and now it's a big time hobby. We like to go railfanning in the greater lower New York area and sometimes beyond. Sometimes the kids and I wander together and sometimes I railfan solo. Ep44 - Heritage Day & More from Elkhart (NYC Museum Tour, 3 NS HU's, Train meetups, CPKC, BNSF)
In this episode, we complete our visit to Elkhart, Indiana with a tour of the National New York Central Museum right next to the station, We see a lot of history and displays from arguably the greatest rail line of all time: the one and only New York Central. From the model rail, to the railcars on display outside, it was amazing thing to witness. On top of that, we get three Norfolk Southern Heritage Units to go along with the day. We also get a triple train meetup and some foreign engines like CPKC and BNSF.

We went to the Conrail Shared Assets Operation in Piscataway and Bound Brook, NJ and spent 11 hours there total! Fostoria is such a great place to watch trains, and they do come in bunches. The town really has invested in welcoming rail fans. I don't know if you got to see one of their police cars but they have a train engine as part of their logo. It's such a gift that you do this with your boys. Thank you for coming to Ohio.

Late to viewing this area - what is the reason a NJ Transit loco is in use?
They need the unit anytime they go on the Transit main line. Which is mainly just to Middletown and down to Warwick. Has to do with signal cabs, etc that correspond to the main line.

There's those ex east Penn railroad locomotives. What station was that at. The blue and yellow caboose and locomotive used to be the Delaware coastline railroad.
This was outside Campbell Hall, NY. The MNJ runs throughout Orange County, NY and pretty cool how they are ex East Penn locomotives,
Just to clarify, the 2174 and 2175 were never on the East Penn. They were both delivered to the MNJ from Metro East Industries a few years ago. The reason they wear the same colors as East Penn locomotives is because both the MNJ and ESPN are owned by Regional Rail, LLC. Also the GP7 (ex-Amtrak) and caboose (ex-NJT) were never on the Delaware Coast Line. Both were painted by MNJ employees into their current colors several years ago.

Never saw waste management green gondolas before, also that railroad acquired a east Penn railroad locomotive and renamed it to susquahanna railroad. Nice seeing it make it that far up in new York county.
