    Good morning I have a question which doesn't relevant to your video if you don't mind. I heard one of an English series about a friend of a girl who asked her who is elder you or your sister? She replied that her sister is younger than I'm. Could you illustrate?

    • @VancesLaneEnglish
      @VancesLaneEnglish Před měsícem

      Hi In British English, both "elder" and "older" can be used to talk about who is older between two people. "Elder" is often used to compare ages between two people, like saying "she is the elder sister." "Older" is used more generally to talk about age, like saying "he is older than his brother." So, in everyday conversation, people might use them interchangeably to mean the same thing.

    • @VancesLaneEnglish
      @VancesLaneEnglish Před měsícem

      In English, when someone asks 'Who is older, you or your sister?' and the response is 'My sister is younger than I am,' it means the person is saying 'My sister is younger than I am [older].' It's a way of emphasising that the speaker is older than their sister. Hope this clarifies it for you!

      @@VancesLaneEnglish Appreciate your useful information, but why did she say ? She is younger than I'm, instead of saying she is younger than me.

    • @VancesLaneEnglish
      @VancesLaneEnglish Před měsícem

      @@mustafajawad8099 Traditional grammar favours “She is younger than I am” because it clearly completes the comparison using a full clause. However, in everyday usage, “She is younger than me” is commonly accepted and understood to mean the same thing, even though it uses the objective case (“me”) instead of the subjective case (“I”).

    thought you were gonna be witty and say sum smart like "long dew (due) innit?"

    • @VancesLaneEnglish
      @VancesLaneEnglish Před měsícem

      Thanks for watching my video. Just to clarify: “Long Overdue” "Long overdue" means that something should have happened a long time ago and it’s now very late. For example, if someone finally gets a promotion at work after many years of waiting, you might say, "That promotion was long overdue." Difference Between “Dew” and “Due” - **Dew**: This is moisture that forms on surfaces, like grass or leaves, during the night. It appears as tiny droplets in the morning. - Example: "The grass was wet with morning dew." - **Due**: This refers to something that is expected or owed. - Example: "The report is due tomorrow." - Example: "She paid her dues to the club." Hope that clears things up! 😄

      "Wee muckers" is a colloquial term often used in Northern Ireland and Scotland. "Wee" means small or little, and "muckers" is derived from "mate" or "friend." It's a regional expression that reflects a sense of camaraderie and familiarity.

      Hello and thank you for your questions. There are a few possibilities. If you are confident (100% sure) that the person knocking at the door is Priyanka, you can say: 👉 "This will be Priyanka." If you suspect it is her, but you are not sure, as you were not expecting her, but she sometimes comes by, you can say: 👉 "This could be Priyanka" 👉 but "This might be Priyanka." is also possible. We would NOT say: "This would be Priyanka." I hope this helps! Any questions - let me know. Have a good day!

"Mm i have to go to see the doctor but I don't think he will/will have/or has come" Soo now here i really don't have any idea or kind of information about him being there "RIGHT NOW" but sometimes we randomly say in talking.. 1) I don't think he WILL COME (yet) 2) I don't think he WILL HAVE (yet) *3) I don't think he HAS COME (yet)* Now also using "Will" I don't want to express him being at hospital in the FUTURE but in the "present moment" that is beyond my knowledge that actually he is at hospital or not but *I'm making a guess this way usually we do..*

    • @VancesLaneEnglish
      @VancesLaneEnglish Před 5 měsíci

      1. In English, it all depends on the situation. “You must be Priyanka” is also possible, but then you don’t expect her, but you think it must be her and nobody else would come at this time to your house, so it must be her. 2. Let’s try to figure out what you mean: 1) I don't think he WILL COME (yet) If you think someone is NOT likely to come - then you can say that. That means that according to your opinion, this person will not come = show up. For example to a party. 2) I don't think he WILL HAVE (yet) - I would not say that. It is better to say: “I don’t think he has arrived yet.” That means you are expecting him to arrive soon, but he has not arrived yet. The Present Perfect Tense. 3) I don't think he HAS COME (yet) - I would not say that. 4) If you have made an appointment in a hospital with the doctor, you can say “I am seeing a doctor today” (plans) or “I am seeing a doctor now” (as we speak). @@nirajthakor9748

    As the English pronunciation is the most difficult thing for English learners, in my view this the best explanation I ever seen. Thank you very much indeed teacher..👍👏

    It's a shortening of the phrase, "the proof of the pudding is in the eating". Not just testing it, but using it for the purpose it was intended for.

      Yes, those phrases convey a similar meaning, but there is a slight difference in wording: "The proof is in the pudding." "The proof of the pudding is in the eating." The first phrase is a shortened version of the second. Both expressions suggest that the true value or quality of something can only be judged or demonstrated through practical experience or by trying it out. Thanks for watching my video!

    In Australia we follow much the same traditions and observances as they do in the UK. The major difference, of course, is our Christmas is in summer. This is reflected in the meal selections and eating practices. The food is generally roast meats with all the trimmings, but outdoor meals and BBQs are also very popular with seafood high on the list. Plenty of festive food and drink and time spent with family and close friends is the norm.

      Sounds fantastic! I hope to spend a Christmas in Australia one day. In Europe people usually celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve as a main event, so it is different from the UK. They also consume clear water variety of fish as main course, not turkey. They open presents on Christmas Eve too. Thank you for your comment and for watching my video! Merry Christmas!

      I have Scottish relatives and a number of the years ago I spent a white Christmas and New Year in Scotland. It was very different being so cold, but it was great to spend this time with family. Merry Christmas to you.
