Being a Genesis die hard fan like me....each and every time I listen these kind of singing performances I can't help but wonder how on Earth it wasn't obvious for the band that they had the perfect Peter Gabriel replacement already in the band right from the start. I mean...c'mon!! They had him in front of their eyes!!! I think Steve Hackett was asked once about this matter and he just said "Well...probably we didn't think he could be able to sing all the material at the same level" or something like that. I think that's what Tony Banks maybe felt about it. They knew Phil could sing Ripples, Mad Man Moon and Entangled buy maybe they didn't think he could sing Squonk and Dance On A Volcano. Only God knows why they thought that way.

Chester Thompson definitely was the guy they needed - he was meant for this band (and he had actually heard "A Trick of the Tail" before Phil called him to hear if he would be interested! ) :) It's too bad that this stellar line-up only existed for eight months or so before Steve Hackett quit, although I understand both his reasons.and the wish of the rest of the band to reach more mainstream, pop-oriented audiences and make more money. Very cool recording - I saw Steve's band playing through the Seconds Out setlist live in late 2021, they were fabulous with these classic songs of course! ❤

We all are still waiting for an expanded edition of Seconds Out. Wishful thinking...

I am Familiar with Behind the Lines and Duchess due to getting the Platinum Hits of their Music but I didn't know Duchess followed into Guide Vocal that is Crazy!

Masterpiece! there was Steve,owner of the pure Genesis Sound,Phil still sings and not screaming as he did forward,great job of Tony( but he was responsable of the Steve'departure,thanks Tony,because of you we can listen to the extraordinary job that Steve did on his solo career),Mike plays his wonderful Shergold and Chester as usual ,power and poetry on drums.When Steve goes solo,Genesis ended.And i know that real Genesis fans willl be agree with me.The Genesis in the 80's and 90's are the worst,ridiculous,childhood music of all times,what a shame for them

Seconds Out always suffered from lousy production. Dave Hentschel had an annoying habit of taking the rough edges off the band’s music, both studio and live. This version is how Seconds Out should have sounded. Thank you!

Talking about famous missed chances: When the whole oeuvre was remixed in 5.1, they had a golden opportunity to restore the entire set-lists of the 1976 and 1977 tours. They have it ALL on mulit-track in the vaults. A "complete" Seconds Out would be wonderful.

Sounds great! I do think the 1/1/77 version at the Rainbow Theater is a little better, mainly because there are a lot more wicked drum fills during A in 9/8.
