over grip is superior to the under grip
Ha ha ha.
Hi its me sharon! Thanks for putting this on CZcams.
is that a real knife?
The edge is blunted for Demonstration purposes. We use the same knives (with blunt edges) for knife self defence training.
What is this form called?
Hi BarbieXL, it's a two-knife variation on the Tang Soo Do Single Knife Form (Dan Gum Hyung) - you can find the single knife form on this channel demonstrated by my son Tom. It originated with the Jae Chul Shin group in Tang Soo Do and spread to other federations.
I would have guessed the Tang Soo Do World Championships might be in Korea, but they are in Boston! Are they always in Boston?
The UTC used to hold them in different locations where it used to be strong, Wales, Boston and was scheduled to be in Holland, but the UTC folded when the head (GM Richard Byrne from Boston - who learned Tang Soo Do whilst based in Korea whilst in the US Forces) sadly passed away, the UTC shrunk a little after that and is now primarily based in the US as the ATA. It was great federation and GM Richard Byrne was a great head of it.
Laurie Williams that is unfortunate. it happens a lot when strong leaders pass away and there is nobody who can effectively take on the role. it happens often in the USA martial arts world.
"World Championship"?
Yes, UTC Boston Tang Soo Do 2012 World Championships.
I like the use of 'kids breaker boards' but i'm not sure about the breaking with sparring gear on! I realise this will reduce the chance of injury and in today's litigious society that is a good aspect but i think it would definitely reduce the technique (foot shape) and the make it harder for an examiner to discern and assess that technique, although i suppose that this is a minor point. Looks like a decent facility, punchbag brackets on the wall an all that.
Talented kid!
Check out this busker from Cardiff. m.czcams.com/video/bgCGFSxxXRA/video.html
amazing technique
TSD sparring rules: -no contact (of course, judges figure out how strict or loose to call this) -hand techniques can block and strike above the belt and below the neck, no fakes to the head -kicks above the belt, spin kicks must be controlled -no blind techniques -all scores are one point, three to win -no grabbing (you can usually get away with a little bit of pinching, for example, if you pull on a pant leg to unbalance someone mid-kick) -leg checks are usually tolerated they're super restrictive rules and they definitely favor kickers, but eh it's good for training kids. my instructor lets us go pretty heavy in class, so we still get to train in full fighting, just not in tourney.
Those are some deep stances!
Ba duan jin?
Dat Chi Kung doe!
bad ass lady thuggin
Thank you for the comments, I'll pass them on - please feel free to drop by and watch any of the Tang Soo Do videos on this channel.
Excellent fire and spirit, the power is there, the only thing i'd comment about is his height, he seems to be bobbing up and down throughout the form instead of staying at one height which is what judges usually like to see. Good job though, again awesome attitude!
yes u can use your hands.. to block kicks.. though in this fight is not quite well use. In this kind of sparring ( World Tang soo do Championship) points are counted with puch to the front cage kicks to the head, sides and also the front cage. the size of the Tatami is up to the organizers.
Jacb is to the left of the screen as the fight commences.
his form does indeed have the power and fire we all like to see but as i see it, i feel that his stances are too deep hindering his mobility and overall fluidity of the form. his form is not bad but you can do nicer forms with better mobility.
I believe Luke took Bronze at the World Championships with this form. Great competitor, greater person.
VampiruLover, constructive comments are always welcome - whilst yours appears to be less than constructive, the winner of this fight (which was a 1st round bout) went on to achieve the Silver Medal at the internationals, and also a Bronze at this year's World Championships. Whilst your Martial Arts achievements are what exactly ?
