DIY Pedal Tips: Eyelet Board Build Walkthrough
In this video, we'll walk you through the build process for an eyelet board pedal build. This build is for a one-knob germanium Fuzz Face, though the process is similar for other circuits. The Fuzz Face has a very low parts count, so it is an excellent choice for a first-time build.
The one tricky part of a germanium fuzz face build is transistor selection, as the original circuit is picky about transistor specifications and can sound poor with the wrong specs (which will result in the circuit being "biased" incorrectly). One of the most common ways to mitigate this issue is to use a trim pot in place of the 8.2k resistor, which we have done in this build. The trim pot allows for making adjustments to the bias, which allows for a wider range of transistors to be used.
Note that PNP silicon transistors can also be used in this build.

In this video we'll show you how you can avoid drilling but still easily mount a board that typically would be screw-mounted. This can improve the external appearance, avoid the need for drilling holes with tight tolerances, and allow you to position the board exactly from the inside of the enclosure. I'm on a MethKetSnowBall, I don't even own a guitar, I've been up for 9 days and I've decided I want to make a psychedelic rockc album with elements of blacked doom, prog and jazz. OK so I want this spolier, now what 5 distortion pedals should I chain?
I developed this product a few years ago, but due to copyright, lawyers, and useless red tape bullsh*t, I forgot about it. Dam, I knew I was on to something!! Sean C Black
i've always hated the extra high end frequencies from heavy distortions and fuzzes, so i've had to tune the gain like crazy a saturator sounds like it'd eliminate this; in layman's terms, even at max your tone still sounds more melodic than a high gain fuzz would give when playing chords, for example super informative video, thank you 🙏
Yeah ,needed to see where tobset the multi
Should I choose stealth 80 or blackbird 100?
very different speakers. the BB100 is sweet, detailed and warm. the Stealth 80 is mid-scooped, modern and aggressive. Is you play classic tones, BB100. i you play higain, ultra lead and ultra clean, them maybe the Stealth 80'.
Is it really recommended to change caps "every few years"? I thought 10 or even 20 years was possible . Chances are you'll also want to change the electrolytics on the boards ( eg white Mallory) , they go bad too
Thank you for this video! Is it possible to use the solderable breadboard for prototyping? Is this advisable or should I be using standard breadboards for prototyping only?
Best video on how bias your amp❤
1) You don't show how the bias probes are connected--though you do show them being removed. 2) You show the signal on the oscilloscope, but you don't explain what points the problems are connected to to get that signal. 3) What volume setting do you use to test? 4) I see a waveform on the oscilloscope. Do you need an input signal to do the biasing? Remember, this is for beginners!
Nothing like tube audio.
I wish I had this clean of a job.
Make American Tubes Great Again! MATGA
Nicely impressive. Thanks.
Muy bueno, muchas gracias por el video amigo...
How do you like the recycled sound units?
I feel like this setup with the plate would also give your headstock some added strength and support.
You Rock dude. Thank you for making this video!
I recently started using CE caps when repairing amps with chassis-mounted can caps. Nice to see them being literally hand-made. I cannot imagine getting anything any closer to the original.
❤️🎶🎵🎸🎶🎵🎙️🎶🎵👍🙏❤️😎
looks like a pretty decent amp kit though.... pretty good price to get into a point to point kit amp. ( a lot easier to work on, for the cost of terminal strips ) the power trany looks bigger than my amp's tranny, maybe not though, about the same, mine is full wave rectification ( no secondary center tap )......Ooo....I just noticed it's a Hammond....I can't zoom in on the sticker, which one is that?
8 Watts ? max plate is 300vdc, and my EL-84 runs at 270vdc ( 90% ) but the amp is called a " 5 watt ".... I mean I am guessing it puts out about 6 watts, but that's just guessing. what's the B+ spec on that?
how would you say this compares to the Mesa/Boogie California Tweed 6V6 2:20 1x12 Tube Amp Combo ? Remember the mesa is $2,000 approx.
Can you use PA speakers as external cab work electric guitar
Nice demonstrations and explanations.
In one sentence: "Slick-nutz", "nut slots", and "lizard spit." This is the best hobby ever.
Why are you not using insulated tools with such a high voltage available on the board?
Tungsol WAS an American maker of bulbs and tubes.
My favorite Multi-section for the hundreds of vintage communication radios I've had the pleasure of restoring and have a few videos here showing these restorations on collectables and of course touting the wonder CE caps. I think I would prefer the Fender 6g15.
Great video thanks.
Do you use dielectric grease on any tube connections?
the repetitive riff is a kind of mini torture bwahahahaha
And the sound?
Uhm, you can forgo the cost of bias probes and meters... all you need is a multimeter.
Anyone tried JB weld?
A lot of lower priced reverb pedals are plagued with a noisy hiss. How does this pedal fare in that department?
Shuguang had a fire in in their factory (neighbors factory) that damaged about 75% of the manufacturing area. This closed their plant with a long & slow rebuild ahead PS Vane was starting production about same time. They hired many Shuguang workers and managers. I have 12) Siemens copy EL-34's labeled TAD and use them in my PrimaLuna Dialog Premium HP amp. It uses 8. Another pair of monoblocs is Atma-Sphere M60's. They use 8) 6AS7G tubes / chassis in OTL design.
When I was a kid in the '50s I saw the tv repairman more than my dad. I was fascinated by his fold out tool box chock full of tubes, mostly in red boxes the way I remember. Damn televisions back then, I still remember laying in front of the thing listening to The Roy Rogers Show because there wasn't any picture, lol.
All these types of screws are flatheads. They are either Phillips head or slotted head.
What is the paint do you use for stamping? The stamp maker said me the paint wont last so long and can easily go away if you scratch, even with clear coat.
Great video! My tank says “n1eb3c1b”, I get all the info except the “n”. What’s the “n” about?
Thanks, man! Was in thoughts what tools do I need for my home use and guitar settings. I'm in love to setup my guitars personally and it is always good to make things in proper way.
Hi , what’ is the proper way to wire if you have one speaker that’s 8 ohms and the other is 16 ohms ? Thx
What about the Ruby Tank options for Vox AC15C1?
What if the code is illegible? Is there another way to identify which tank is specified?
Yes. Lube but add a "String Butler" and your good!
Be nice to see you do installation
