It always kills me that Winnie lived one hundred years...almost like if she was waiting for Jessie to come back someday. To see him again. Over 80 years went by since the time she met and last saw Jessie until her death. An entire lifetime for Winnie..yet for Jessie who will live on..80 years is perhaps just another speck of time in his endless life...which is so sad. Winnie passed just a few years short of Jessie arriving. Had they encountered each other again jessie would have come face to face with a frail hundred year old Winnie. Ugh...love this movie so much.

My father loved this film, and to a degree, the second one. But the first one was pure gold, and we loved every second of it. Every time I watched De Niro cry in this scene, I couldn't help but laugh. Of course, that was before my father passed away back in April of 2021.
