A lovely evening to be on the kayak, especially with the Mrs. Mackerel and Pollock dominated the session and even a large spider crab was picked up on the way in (but sadly not on video!). Keeping it nice and simple with feathers throughout for some easy fishing fun. I will definitely take this mark a step further in the coming weeks and through in some bigger lures. Enjoy the video!

A trip to Cornwall took us so various marks which we were spinning and bait fishing for mainly bass and mackerel. It seems in Cornwall, mainly St Ives area, that winter mackerel are around in their numbers during the UK winter months. This is a big change to Pembrokeshire and meant that we could have fun finning for this great sporting fish. At the same time, we fished for bass in an estuary an...

What leader are you using?
On a trip to Jersey shore, I collected the shells, a lot of them, and at home handed them out to the grandkids, telling them they were mermaids' lost fake fingernails.
Just caught your video excuse the pun, really enjoyed watching it. I like your attitude on not needing expensive gear, I changed for cheap soft action rods for more expensive ones but sometimes go back to them and usually end up catching more with them, it must be the soft action that they have making the fish feel less tension on the line. Keep up the good work, I have subscribed.
Appreciate the comment and thanks also for subscribing! Certainly agree, whilst I condone gear can help in some ways, it’s not a necessity!
Great video, if you dont mind could you let me know the location?
Great video. Very clear explanation on collecting them. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Size 1,0 circle hooks mate, no deep hooking ,better for the fish,,,
Interesting point, will take on board! Thank you

A black or silver lure works best for Pollock, the secret news is a copper lure gets yoy cod
Copper lure, will have to try give that a go - thank you
Spin fished there myself this year both left and right of the bay, but blanked and lost a few lures. Mate has a few pollack by spear fishing there. I think the rubbish summer we had this year has had a lot to do with it. Had a few bass off Newgale sea fishing early on in the season then really struggled through the summer to catch anything was unusual as we normally pick up a few bass off newgale at night. County sports have done well out me this year. They need to stock up on their lures now. 😂
Good mark! It’s been an odd year for bass, feel the season started so early then ended, who knows! At least county sports doing good! 😂
@@bengriffithsseaangling2138 I’ve got a touring caravan in Newgale on a site by pebbles cafe where there are a lot of static caravans, been going for about 8yrs now but the season ended last weekend so have to wait now until Easter before the season starts again. Checked monks haven spear fishing as it’s less busy and my mate had a nice bass around 3lb. Normally dig lugworm then fish Newgale beach at night but started doing a lot more spinning this year.
@@Andy-71 something about spinning being so simple and “mess free” does it for me! Swings and round abouts - tight lines!
@@bengriffithsseaangling2138 I totally agree with you there
thats how sea water became salty..😅
Thing about bass is it doesnt matter about the tides state. Bass can be caught in a foot of water if their feeding, and thats the most challenging part of uk bass fishing, findinng out where the bass are feeding.
I agree. I think certain venues can be tide dependant due to accessibility but generally I agree.
@@bengriffithsseaangling2138 takes some skill and understanding to catch the blighters that's for sure. Flouro is essential in clear waters.
Nice ! How do you catch so easily ! i’m doing what looks like that same as you. mixing up lure types, live baits and water depths etc and I blank every time. Hours per time and nothing lol ! I’m in Torquay so maybe it’s because it’s just not great fishing here !
Good question! Is you’re feathering, what size hooks are you using and what type of feather? If jigging, try move through the whole of the channel, from top to bottom of the water then repeat! For bass, they’re far less common, so it’s being in the right place at the right time!
Brilliant video …I’ve fished from that very spot on man’s head for thirty years … caught a lot of turbot from there …well done
Thanks Larry, a great mark! Appreciate the comment also. Tight lines!
Hi Ben! I am a journalist at ITV West Country. We're looking to speak to someone who does razor clam fishing later today via Zoom? Just wondering if you're available? Thanks!
Hi Holly, feel free to email me at bengriffiths97@hotmail.com and we can have a chat via phone? Many thanks
Just catched a 1kg atlantic pollock. Not that big, but it’s the biggest I’ve ever pulled out of the water.
Tidy catch that! Fish cakes?
@@bengriffithsseaangling2138 messed up the fish and ate it from a bowl while crying
Have you been to the beaches from Swansea to Rhossili? I went to all the different beaches along that coast during low tide to find lobsters and razor clams but i don't see any. I keep wondering if I'm doing something wrong or if there really isn't any around these areas.
I have fished that area quite a few times! Razors are usually on sheltered beaches, I’m not sure if you would get that at Rhossili. You may get them around the sides of the beach, or, at a very low time. I’d suggest going on a very big tide when the tide is out all the way and trying it then.
@@bengriffithsseaangling2138 I've seen someone buying Penclawdd clams before and if there are clams there then there must be razor clams as well. Would you say that River Loughor is a sheltered beach since it is facing inland and there would be less wave energy so there might be more clams living there? And if there is such a thing as Penclawdd clams and it's right by River Loughor. I feel that they might be collecting the clams by that river?
Is a tool you can use to make this much faster, easier, and you don’t blow money on salt :p
Sounds good! What’s the tool? Is it salty water in air pressure bottle thingy?
You can make one pretty easy, any tube that’s round enough, open on one end. Push down around the clan, twist pull up. I made one that has a plunger type of deal on the top so I can make sure I get enough suction. You can retrofit a bicycle pump for razor clams, works great.
@@bengriffithsseaangling2138 Yes the cylindrical tool mentioned by Chris is way more efficient than the salt method. They're called clam guns.
@@zivkovicable I will take a look - thank you.
Hi bud I’ve recently moved to Cornwall I pretty much species LRF hunt I actually live 10 minutes from hayle so know the area I’ve never sea fished so was thinking of trying at lobbing some lures on the fist estuary mark what I’m interested in what time of year was it as looks pretty cold tight lines regards Dave
This was February time and it fished well, especially for bass. There was mackerel on lures but only Small ones. The estuary is a great spot although I haven’t tried it on lures. It’s a sandy bottom so if be inclined to drag a silver lure, maybe a dexter like wedge, just above the bottom. Do let me know how you get on. Tight lines
@@bengriffithsseaangling2138 hi just a update fished the estuary and had few knocks and one schoolie bass on a 5g metal just flicking along and a nasty weever fish but there were a lot of mullet as well but they’re not interested in the lures thanks for replying

Subbed. Love that place. Was down early August. Just back from Greece but Pembrokeshire is special. I've been managing on a good inflatable in calm waters. About to get first hard shell but tempted by pedal drive.
Thanks for subscribing, certainly a great part of the world! Pedal drives are fantastic, especially when drifting in choppy sea, far easier to keep straight and in the right direction. Also great for many other reasons - only downside is the cost! Thanks for the comment and sub 👍🏻

Glad you enjoyed - thanks for the comment! Do subscribe!
Wicked vid, any reason you didn't set up where you were casting? Sorry to be a pain, is it clear bottom next to pier legs and is it possible to fish the left hand side of new pier, many thanks mate
Thanks! To be honest where the rods are, there are steps so not much room to set up, further down is flatter so much more for space. It’s flat sandy bottom just over the pier but easy to snag on the way up as there are rocks, I always find lost traces there! When it’s a big tide you’ll be pushed up the steps. Hope that makes sense
@@bengriffithsseaangling2138 thank you very much for replying, will definitely help me when I get to fish the pier

Hey mate. Hope you’re all well, loving the content recently! Have just bought my first kayak and done fishing on and off with dad in a yak over the past couple years from Nolton Haven. Where abouts were you fishing in Solva? I’ll be heading out solo for the first time soon and I might try Solva! Cheers mate.
Hey Louis, thanks for subscribing! If you go out straight from Solva harbour on a mid tide it will take you right out into deep water. I park up by the public toilets and use a trolley to take the kayak down to the first slip way right at the top. If you use the slipway further down you have to pay £2.00 and in all honestly the slip way there is so rocky. The top slip way is free and has a fresh stream running down, even on the low tide, which you can drag your kayak down. Fishing wise, scar rock (labelled in the video) is pollack heaven. The deep water before there holds other species but careful for the pots. If you can, download the app navionics. This will show you good areas to fish around the scar! Other popular kayak venues in Pembrokeshire are Porth gain, at brides and any area around Tenby. Best of luck
@@bengriffithsseaangling2138 Wow cheers for the fast detailed reply Ben! Will be sure to use all these tips and I’m likely to be heading out to Scar rock sometime soon. Will download the app now. I’ll be sure to say hello if ever I see you out on the water. Cheers again!
The lighthouse on that promontory looks identical to the Bailey lighthouse here in Howth, Dublin. I thought it was for a second. Also a good spot for pollack, coalies and bass. What's it like for wrasse there at Strumble? Oh BTW, you meant imitate?
Just had a Google, definitely looks like the Bailey lighthouse! Cracking spot for pollack, also great for big conger if bottom fishing, some monsters off there. Definitely meant to say imitate!! You can fish for wrasse at your feet there, there are some good ones about, just will have a lot of pollock to contend with!
