Janet and Jak Esim are Sephardic musicians living in Turkish performing Judeo-Spanish songs and Sephardic music in Istanbul. Collaborating with the legend Turkish fretless guitarist Erkan Oğur and Bülent Ortaçgil, they prepared albums and gave concerts. The best-known album of the duo is "Antik Bir Hüzün", which is also their first work. In 1992, they won the "Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik" (German Record Critics' Award) with this album. Thus, after Zülfü Livaneli, they became the second Turkish group to receive this award. The duo gave many concerts in Europe. Sephardic Jews and the Ladino language, which has come to the fore and attracted attention with the Club, which is Netflix series, have a only native music representatives in Turkey anymore that is Janet & Jak Esim Ensemble. Ladino music is endangered of extinct in Turkey even if is being recognized again. The ensebmle is the only native Sephardic ensemble in Turkey keep this musical culture. Janet & Jak Esim Ensemble is a uniquely valuable and well-established group that plays Sephardic music and Ladino language with all its aspects.
Since the late 80s, Janet and Jak Esim have intensively researched and represented Turkish Jewish traditions - especially Sefardi but also Askenazi - with their own complex story of differences and similarities. Their long-term commitment has produced half a dozen recordings also which in collaborated with Erkan Oğur, Bülent Ortaçgil.
They provide the necessary variety in instrumental colors, tastefully enhancing the melodies of a repertoire based on traditional songs covering a broad time period and very different social functions: love songs, hymns, drinking songs, lullabies and romanzas sung in harmonious combination of Judeo-Spanish, Turkish and French.

Janet Abla , Jak Ağabey var olunuz ,tüm kalbimle esenlik,afiyet dilerim size.Bu videoya nasıl geldim bilmiyorum surf yaparken bir şekilde eriştim...Bu müzik ,icranız , bunalmaktan alıkoydu beni.Haftalardır kitap okuyamıyordum, sizi dinlerken sayfalar akıp gidiyor.Yemin ediyorum konsantre olmak neydi hatırladı zihnim.Sözleri anlamıyorum ,kesin huzura , sevgiye ve barışa götürmeye çalışan bir şeyler vardır.Mutlu oluyorum anlıyor musunuz ,sizi dinlerken mutlu oluyorum.Nasıl desem, müziğiniz ,esaret altında kalıp da bir şekilde bir Akdeniz kasabasına erişip huzur bulmak gibi.Bir sanat eserinin insanda iyi ve olumlu duygular uyandırması beklenmelidir kanımca zaten.
