It's a slippery slope when you start comparing numbers between leagues, unfortunately. I have no doubt that Gibson was among the greatest hitters of his generation, but comparing his 43 numbers to Ty Cobb doesn't really work. Same with comparing his amount of HRs to Ruth. Ruth did a ton of barnstorming as well, for instance. By all accounts, Gibson was an incredible talent, and that's enough for me.

Wow how awesome was it for Satchel and Josh to become good friends and ending up playing with and against each other during the prime of their careers. That’s like ‘99 Pedro playing with ‘01 Bonds but still not being quite as good as Satch and Josh. That’s hella extra super crazy to think about. Now also remember, if Satchel said Josh was “SuperHuman”, it only means that Satchel had to be “SuperHuman” himself. But you're right in that, when baseball was on was pretty much the only time I saw that commercial. Barkley/Manning/etc seem to be on commercials even when the main demographic isn't baseball.
