I thought the Orthodox Church taught that human life begins at conception and ends at natural death. If this is true, why is this archbishop pronouncing a benediction on the DNC? As he speaks, the DNC is providing free abortions just outside the building; with no appointment required. I don't get it.

Ok I think that a little schooling is required in this particular case. The current Political party that is governing Greece is called Neo Democratia. In english this party is called New Democrats, however this party is not liberal but more in line with Republican policies. Many Hellenes who emigrated to the USA between 1891-1920... numbers vary, but approximately 700K Hellenes emigrated, with about 100K returning back home, they didnt clarify what the New Democratic party was in the USA. They most likely thought in light of the name they both stand for the same policies. This is erroneous because in the USA New Democratics are Liberals not Cnservative in their policies. The Orthodox Christian Church is not bound by political parties but tranacends them in Christ. However, since the Orthodox Christian Church adheres to traditional family values, the Republican conservative policies are more in line with the Orthodox Church's Christian Values. P.S. The Deaconal petition of prayer for the president and armed forces/civil authrities was never present in the Orthodox Christian Liturgy of antiquity...neither in St Basil' Liturgy or St. John Chrysostom's Liturgy. It was an American innovation adding that Deaconal Petition to the Liturgy. In ancient times the only non Orthodox person that was commemorated was the emperor Caeser, because of his reign over the civilized world and especially after the emperor was Christianized primarily starting with St. Theodosios and his null hereticuals in 379-380 AD. Hope this helps to clarify!

Point of clarificarion: The Catechumens were also commemorated in the Divine Liturgy even though they were not Orthodox Christians, but they were on their way to being baptized on Holy and Great Saturday of Holy Week in antiquity. The Catechumens were also removed during the second part of the Divine Liturgy aka the Liturgy of Communion or the Faithful.

This is an embarrassment to Orthodox christians around the world. Orthodoxy is not supposed to be affiliated with any kind of political parties anywhere. GOD DOESNT PICK POLITICAL PARTIES. God picks salvation and for us to love one another not segregate ourselves to the brink of civil war. Taxes in the eyes of God is theft, government control is antifreedom, God does not endorce governments who fund wars or kill children either. Those that disagree with this arent true Orthodox christians.

Unfortunately, the Palestinian genocide has become a 'No- no' topic for some. I'm also very disappointed because the archbishop's mother is Syrian, so one would think he'd be a bit more sympathetic & empathetic toward the Palestinian tragedy. I have been to Gaza & the West Bank several times, & conditions in Gaza & Gaza City were terrible. Ramallah, West Bank, not much better. Since 1948, a terrible dominoes effect has occurred & displaced Palestinian refugees to Lebanon as well. I have relatives there & the situation is dire. I will never forget what happened to legendary Lebanese-American reporter Helen Thomas. I highly recommend everyone watching her final interview on CZcams regarding her 'forced resignation' because she demanded a solution to the Palestinian's plight. Terrible! On the other hand, I give praise to the archbishop for officiating at a baptism in Greece, of a Gay couple's adopted children. Unfortunately, he was condemned by many in the Orthodox Church of Greece because they're very homophobic & quite backward on many social issues. They considered the archbishop baptizing the children a show of support for the LGBTQ COMMUNITY, which was NOT the case here. Even if he had, what's wrong with that? These children had the right to receive the sacra 2:04 ment of baptism & they did. I'm happy the archbishop had the guts to do the right thing & not cave to ridiculous & nonsensical pressures. 2:04 2:04

The day we step into eternity may come sooner than we think. In preparation for that moment, we need to know this truth-not everyone is going to heaven. How can we know for sure that we are going to heaven? Some 2,000 years ago, the apostles Peter and John were preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ to a large crowd in Jerusalem. Peter made a profound statement that resonates even in our postmodern world: “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). Now as then, Acts 4:12 is not politically correct. Today it’s popular to say, “Everyone’s going to heaven” or “All paths lead to heaven.” There are many who think they can have heaven without having Jesus. They want the glory, but they don’t want to be bothered by the cross, much less the One who died there. Many don’t want to accept Jesus as the only way of going to heaven and are determined to find another path. But Jesus warns us that no other path exists and that the consequence for rejecting this truth is an eternity in hell. He told us that “whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him” (John 3:36). Faith in Christ is the key to going to heaven. Some will argue that it’s extremely narrow-minded of God to provide only one way to heaven. But, frankly, in light of mankind’s rebellion against God, it’s extremely broad-minded for Him to provide us with any way to heaven. We deserve judgment, but God gives us the way of escape by sending His one-and-only Son to die for our sins. Whether someone sees this as narrow or broad, it’s the truth. The good news is that Jesus died and rose again; those who are going to heaven have received this gospel by faith. Many people today hold to a watered-down gospel that does away with the need for repentance. They want to believe in a “loving” (nonjudgmental) God who never mentions sin and who requires no change in their lifestyle. They may say things like, “My God would never send a person to hell.” But Jesus spoke more about hell than He did about heaven, and He presented Himself as the Savior who offers the only means of going to heaven: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). Who will actually enter God’s kingdom? How can I guarantee that I’m going to heaven? The Bible makes a clear distinction between those who have eternal life and those who do not: “He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life” (1 John 5:12). It all goes back to faith. Those who believe in Christ are made the children of God (John 1:12). Those who accept Jesus’ sacrifice as the payment for their sins and who believe in His resurrection are going to heaven. Those who reject Christ are not. “Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son” (John 3:18). As awesome as heaven will be for those who accept Jesus Christ as their Savior, hell will be that much more awful for those who reject Him. One cannot read the Bible seriously without seeing it over and over again-the line is drawn. The Bible says there is one and only one way to heaven-Jesus Christ. Follow Jesus’ command: “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it” (Matthew 7:13-14). Faith in Jesus is the one means of going to heaven. Those who have faith are guaranteed to get there. Do you trust in Jesus? Have you made a decision for Christ because of what you have read here?

The job for priests and Archbishops is to preach the Holy Bilble and all of God's Commandments and about The Holy Trinity. Their job is NOT to include themselves, intervine, and work with politics and politicians, Prime Ministers, or Presidents in any country. More importantly, they should NEVER put themselves on the same level or above God and dictate with pride and ego words that are not from the Holy Bible and from Holy Scriptures. The biggest sin this Archbishop has committed is to have a gay male couple baptise their baby in a Greek Orthodox Church, accept abortions and invite gay couples to marry in his church. My God, such very BIG sins. Well, good luck to him when he himself meets with God on his judgement. Good luck. Archbishop Elpidophoros, "Repent and come back to the 'Trueth Greek Orthodox', and save your soul before it is will be too late."
