Theres 200 dollar anvils, theres 100 dollar bench grinders. Theres heaps of old hammers on marketplace or ebay. Theres makers that have tools they make that they dont need, you dont need to have money to learn, but you might need a little money if you master. You dont need to sell yojr beloved belongings to get into the craft lol just spend some time saving a little cash on the back burner and make it happen. It really isnt that hard

Completely agree with the first point. I set out to design and build a car from scratch. It took 10 years - and the second one took five - but I succeeded (Google "Midlana"). The journey absolutely requires desire, drive, tenaciousness, and "stick-to-it-ness." Oh and I did it all in 1/2 of a two-car garage, so it can be done. If the job ever feels overwhelming, the phrase is "how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time."

I appreciate everything you CHOOSE to share with us that you DONT have to. Negative people that try to constantly look for reasons to criticize you will always find something because that’s their ultimate intention. And those are usually just miserable people projecting their own self unaccounted for criticism of themselves. The internet has created a disgusting level of normalized narcissism so people that have a million reasons to show gratitude yet choose to project negativity without a good intention behind it or constructive criticism are just projecting their own self hatred in some cases. Anyone that can lovingly correct someone when they’re genuinely in the wrong or doing something wrong are themselves great to have around. But I have no use for people just spewing hate and negativity with nothing but bad Intentions. Letting people like that bother you or get to you is just giving them your own power. So don’t. It doesn’t matter what those small people think. They’re just miserable humans trying to bring other people down to their level. Don’t let them. Cus that’s a choice too. Keep doing what you’re doing Jason much love.

All I can say to those who want to get into making knives it's like being a mechanic or a carpenter, the better the tools the better the job, like I told my boys now young men, use the right tool for the right job and it will be easier, faster and done right the first time, now I do everything from foundations to rooftops, my own mechanical work, I makey own blades ( knives, swords, axes, etc) but I do not do them to what others want I mostly sell at a price that I'm happy with and design which Im happy with unless it's say a katana then I follow the traditional route and yes it does take me a very long time to make them BUT the person receiving it well let's just say that person must first pass a few q&A's and do a test because not everyone gets a katana regardless of how much $ they throw at me why because I take pride in what I do and respect some other traditions, anyhow I make blades for myself, and if others like them then fine and if they don't well it's don't waste my time, I do it for fun and pleasure, sometimes serious (katanas mostly ) but I don't do it for others I do it for me, andy tools are near the top, no I don't have everything either but I do ok and my work as time goes by has gotten better but that's only because my tools have gotten better ! So spend the funds on better tools and you will never go wrong in any field of work wether it's blacksmithing or mechanical work or whatever, and a good blade btw gets passed on to the siblings and seldomly ever sold !

Enjoyed watching part 2 and 3 of your wakazashi build. Turned out awesome. Am a bladesmith for hobby guy. First became aware of you on Forged in Fire episodes. Glad to actually watch you forge projects in your on shop. Might add that the Forged in Fire show is what inspired myself and friend to build our own forge. Once we saw how simple it was to get started we put put together some tools and started forging. Our first forge was the bottom of a BBQ grill. We added an air supply to it and charcoal was our fuel source, have up graded to propane forge and a 2x72 grinder. No power hammer or press. All done by hammer and anvil. Our first projects were forging tongs. Then forging tomahawk out of railroad sp8kes. Once I conquered that I moved on to blades. The Commanding officer of Seal Team Seven has one of my Tomahawks on his desk. From what I understand he was jazzed to win it at archery tournament raffle. Very thrilled to find out who won it. Anyway will continue to watch your videos and pick up more tips. Forge on!
