Cam profile dynamics Vs event BS bashing!
In this, episode 70 part 2, DV goes for the throat on those consult guys and a few other pro's who are apparently spreading some pretty misleading info on cams. This is the second part of a focused BS attack on cam profiles and event timing that need to be straightened up. No holds barred here!

DV cam logic Vs totally pro originated BS
zhlédnutí 15KPřed rokem
In this, episode 70 - part 1, DV takes on what seem to be beliefs widely held by many professionals concerning 'cam profile dynamics Vs cam event timing'. When some grossly misleading info was put forward by a company that supposedly consults on the topic of cams and engines in particular DV decided it was time to do some serious BS bashing. So here, with little held back, is part 1 of the crus...

Why are these #'s critical for a good torque build?
zhlédnutí 43KPřed rokem
In this, episode 71, DV and crew chief Mervin Bonnet, reveal certain easily attainable combinations of parts can generate a stronger torques curve than others. This increased torque potential can amount to a sizable increase in lbs-ft per cube so it has the same effect as making your engine feel much bigger than it really is. Since all the moves described come about through increased efficiency...
Automatic readout cam timing wheel
zhlédnutí 15KPřed rokem
In this issue (68) of PowerTec 10 DV shows how to install and time in the cam for the 350 SBC intended for a Model 'A' Ford Hot Rod. In this video he covers a whole lot od cam install/timing the is rarely cover. the real never-before-seen deal is the DV double wheel degree wheel that removes the need to calculate the intake center-line. Instead it reads it out directly.

Hello David. This is excellent information! Thank you for this. Do the other companies that make multi-electrode spark plugs perform as well as your reshaped specials or even the E3s? Is this something you have tested? I'm guessing this becomes much more important when stuck with a non-transistor system.

Thank you DV for the mini-series on lower end assembly. I am rebuilding a Saab 2.0L B205 and have been using your tips. Had an issue using the 40ft-lb recommendation with plasti-gage (red), it was showing about 0.004"-0.005" clearance, not enough compression. Repeating using full torque and was able to get around 0.0025" (the target). Some online forums mentioned similar issues and recommended full torque or the results were similar. I am guessing the 40lb rule is somewhat engine type specific. I will try out the 40ft-lb tip on my next SBC or SBF project. Now the question of why it didn't work as expected.. my guess would be the bearings are simply different width and thickness requiring more or less pressure. I am sure this technique would work with almost all engines, but some trial and error would be required to figure out what the acceptable level of torque is required. Interesting results, thought I would share. Just also thought thread pitch and diameter variance between the engines might influence this as well..

About 99% of the gear heads on the internet will debate that engines like a little backpressure! I ask them if they have had college level physics classes or a fluid dynamics class? On planet earth back pressure reduces flow which in an engine reduces power. I ask them why would you do H/C/I work to increase flow to only choke it back in the exhaust? They can never answer that question....they usually say well my uncle was a mechanic for 40+ years and that’s what he told me....😂😂😂. If back pressure is good then stick a potato in your exhaust pipe and see what happens. 😂😂😂

Interesting do you know how big the hole wss he drilled in the plug negative electrode? Just made me think what about if you had a hole in the electrode and the center electrode came up through the hole so you're given gap is the size of the hole to the size of the electrode, and if it was tapered from the inside you could have some adjustment on this gap and the spark would be right on the tip the flat part.

Excellent video with Dyno-proven results. My question is what is the measure of a chain that is too tight or too loose? How much range of deflection is preferred between the cam and crank gear and how many pounds of force are required as a standard to impose the deflection? 10, 25, or 50 lbs? What is the maximum “allowable wear” measured in deflection typically? Also, I realize this would be a variable on all different engine types as the cam and crank gears vary in spacing and chain length.

getting to grips with a rotary way out on the boondocks of NZ , I found it best to build my own straight though with lots of stainless polypads , the brass ones got flattened in days , any normal glass pack large mufflers fell apart . I made a few attempts at internal reflection cones too , were ok but stainless is to noisy . And with turbos have found a big expansion tube after the turbo is good . now it seems there are ways to design noise reflecting grooves at about the size of the sound waves , Gismag/new atlass had an article a few years ago ,would like to know more ,could greatly simplify the muffling , even make effective aero mufflers , next project I hope . Thanks David ,great info, and attitude , we say you attitude determines your altitude ,and fame without good character will destroy you .

Aren’t Baja engines rebuilt ever so often, meaning multiple times a year which would mean that this story might not apply to every day engines that are looking for longevity? I’m not very well versed in Baja, so I’m asking and not being accusatory here. Maybe I’m missing something and need clarification, but I’m not entirely sure a baja engine can be compared to factory engines. I would think that companies with billions of dollars looking to extend fuel performance would maybe adopt K&N like filters because they not only produce higher horsepower, but increase fuel mileage and help with filtration that also filters better? I need something more than a story and more actual science analysis.

Dale here. I am glad that you have mentioned that the engine does not need back pressure. I have talked with many people about this, and they always say that there needs to be some type of back pressure. As I mentioned in another video that you did "Grumpy Jenkins" once made a comment about using slightly larger exhaust manifolds (in this case headers) so he could block backpressure and therefore gain a few more horsepower and a slightly quicker time on the track. With what you are talking about here validates his comments and makes me want to agree with you about the person who demands that the engine needs that backpressure is either ignorant or parroting words that someone told them were gospel. Thank you for the information that shows the fallacy of that view.
