I have an '83 240D with a stick. Almost 200K miles since motor was overhauled in October 1991. And it starts up within a second after I turn the key, just like a low mileage gas engine.

I don't know why, but I really enjoy hearing the planetary whine of old automatics. As I understand it, the Ford AOD is descended from the BW in this car. Back when I would bike ride around Toronto and a car (usually a cab) would come up beside me at a stop, the whine when it dropped into low was so distinctive. There was a fascinating SAE paper on the subject of gear noise, so there is serious engineering discussion about it.

I have a 94 automatic with a performance axle. The "late C4's" are fast, thanks to the LT-1. And they're very smooth and mechanically reliable. The clam shell hood is beautiful, and I like the retractable headlights.

Hey, I had an 05 benz c230 and I walked in to a store after I parked it outside, I came back and it was on fire from under the hood towards the front window. What can spontaneously cause that? It was a very hot day and I was running the ac on high. I was shocked. Thanks.
