The International Team for the Study of Security - Verona is a not for profit, apolitical, interdisciplinary, international cultural organisation that is dedicated to the study of every facet of international security, from terrorism to climate change, from conventional warfare to energy security, from militarisation of space to migration flows. As a team made of academics, professionals, and public servants, our mission is to internationalise discussions on security by linking together the best minds our societies can offer, creating global networks, organising high level conferences, bringing people together in the splendid city of Verona, Italy.
Dr. Anna Sergi on the ‘Ndrangheta and its international dimension, ITSS Verona
Dr. Anna Sergi is a professor of criminology and organised crime studies at the University of Essex. She has written several books and academic articles on Calabrian organised crime in Italy and its ties in several countries around the world.
In this session, Dr. Sergi discusses the characteristics that make the ‘Ndrangheta a poly-crime organisation. She expands on the particular status of ‘Ndrangheta in Europe, which is reflected in the crimes it is involved in, its organisation in different countries, as well as the collaboration with other criminal actors on the continent. She finally mentions the anti-mafia efforts at the EU level, and action levers for improvement.
