    Was ONCE a Brilliant Swedish Car, now it's nothing more than a glorified econobox with a luxury price tag, and the ridiculousness of "one", and only "one" engine choice. It's a shame to watch something so good go to the dogs with all the other manufacturers.

    Not my wife. She loves Volvos, and she gets mad when I talk about replacing her pristine 1998 V70XC. She hardly knows what a BMW is.

    A VW my son-in-law owned had a lot of electrical problems too. And did you hear the one about Lucas Electrics, which also made electrical systems for British refrigerators? Question: Do you know why the British like warm beer? Answer: Lucas Electrics

    And Volvo turbochargers are made by Mitsubishi. So much for my "pure-bread" comment.

  • @777Outrigger

    I-70 west of Denver is very steep, and, like many American freeways, is often clogged by slow drivers in the left lane. I can tell you that accelerating from 55 to 80 mph on a steep portion of that highway, to get around such traffic, is well done by the 2.5T. More than one expert reviewer has said what a great job Volvo did with the Turbo/Engine/Transmission combo on the 2.5T. And I know a person who owned a 2.5T, and now owns a 3.2. He sings the praises of both engines in this area.

  • @777Outrigger
    @777Outrigger Před 11 lety

    I meant to put "pure-bread" in quotation marks, but I ran out of space in the comment box. It was not meant as a serious statement--I know there's no such thing anymore.

  • @777Outrigger
    @777Outrigger Před 11 lety

    Several European makes tend to have weaknesses in the electric/electronic area. The only good thing for Volvo in their association with Ford was that Ford fixed those electrical problems. It seems Europeans have trouble understanding electricity. :D

  • @777Outrigger
    @777Outrigger Před 11 lety

    True. I know that with your higher HP and 6-speed tranny, you would beat me in a 0-60mph test. I would like to have a 6-speed tranny on my XC90, but I'm not unhappy with my 5-speed. When Volvo moved from the 2.4L to a 2.5L, that .1 increase was completely for a longer stroke. Too bad about the T6 GM tranny, but it was probably the only transmission that could fit transversely with that engine at the time. It's max torque specifications were exactly what the T6 could put out. Not enough leeway.

  • @777Outrigger
    @777Outrigger Před 11 lety

    One reason I like the 2.5T is that I live in Colorado at an elevation of 7800'. Living at a high elevation makes you fall in love with turbo chargers. My mechanic says the 3.2 can't maintain the speed limit going uphill on I-70 near the Eisenhower tunnel (at the continental divide). And speaking as a Volvo snob :), The 2.5T is made at the Volvo engine foundry in Skovda, Sweden, while the 3.2 is made at the Ford foundry in Wales. I know Ford makes good engines, but I like my little pure-bread.

  • @777Outrigger
    @777Outrigger Před 11 lety

    The 3.2 engine has been a good engine for the XC90, but my Volvo mechanic says the most reliable engine is the 2.5T. The 2.5T is from the Volvo 5 cyl line, which has a reputation for being indestructible. One of the best things about the 2.5T is the max torque of 236 ft lbs comes in at a low 1500 rpm, while on the 3.2, the max torque of 236 ft lbs doesn't come in 'til 3200 rpm. So you need a six-speed tranny to get the same performance off the line that the 2.5T has.

    I had to look up an image of the '05 A8 to remember. Yeah, it looks like a nice car, but a lot of the more modern Audis have an overstretched-balloon look to them. Like somebody put too much air in them. A few other makes and models have that 'look' too.

  • @outrigger777
    @outrigger777 Před 11 lety

    Incredibly beautiful. A fine statement of understated Scandinavian elegance. Not plain like most BMWs or Toyotas, and not glitzy and gaudy like most of the modern designs are---and let's not forget Audis--just plain ugly.

  • @outrigger777
    @outrigger777 Před 11 lety

    Wouldn't have the V8 myself. Not as reliable as the 2.5T made in Skovda, Sweden at the Volvo engine foundry. Some people say this engine it's too small, but I heard someone describe this engine as a little bruiser, because the max torque of 236 ft lbs comes in at only 1500 rpm. And it's known for lasting 100s of thousands of miles without any problem. The V8 , on the other hand, has had it's share of problems.

    @farzanjava I know Ford bought Volvo cars, they still didn't share parts other than the chassis on the 2007+ models. Nor were they engineered by Ford, nor were they built in Ford factories. Ford doesn't have factories in Bellgium or Sweden.

  • @sleeksilver
    @sleeksilver Před 14 lety

    The Touareg has consistently been rated one of the least reliable vehicles (overall, not just VW models) by Consumer Reports, JD Power, and TrueDelta. If you honestly think a Touareg is more reliable than ANY Volvo, you really need to check your facts.

    Touareg, mainly because I like the way it looks secondly I have never had any issues with VW products. I bet there will always be someone who'll say they have nothing but issues with VWs (Passat can be a nightmare) but I believe VAG products are still far superior. I had two Volvos and both were crap

GM, Saturn, Cadillac,etc,those are American brands.Ford is in big financial shit,and they haven't sold Volvo because it's something that bring money to them.They've sold Aston Martin Ltd instead.Volvo is owned by Ford,but don't give me the crap that they interfere with Volvo Cars.

    1.Learn to type and speak English."you're one of those... instead of "your one of those".That might be true instead of "that's"...factory man,not fabric as you said:| ROFL. Volvo-an American brand? Are you mad? Do you have any idea what brand means? Ford doesn't even interfere within the marketing issues of Volvo,not to mention their car DESIGN, research,chassis etc. Volvo is Swedish,it was founded by two Swedish, the actual CEO is Swedish.
