I'm glad you all working on this stuff. I have to say though that I think you've way understated the downtown commercial situation - which is understandable because I know that as elected officials you're not wanting to come off as "alarmist". But I'd say at least 70% of the commercial properties around the square (or a block off of the square) are either completely inactive or have abnormally limited hours of operation. I'd know because I've lived right off of the square for about 5 years and I'm walking around it almost daily for the last 9 years - at all different times of day and night and all days of the week - and have watched its gradual descent into looking like a "ghost town" - the covid pandemic being one very notable turning point. Just my two cents. More power to you and thank you for your conscientious, learned leadership.

I'm curious what market research was done. What kinds of acts will come here for that? Can Fairfield really bring audiences of 100's? What will the restaurant be like? Best of luck!

Seems like a great idea until we consider the costs and that not many folks can afford to build one. With today's prices for materials and labor, they're not cheap. And the cost of building will need to be recouped, directly affecting rent. For this reason, I'm not at all sure this will solve our housing crisis. Might make a tiny dent in it, but solve it? Not unless there are substantial subsidies -- and it's possible there's federal $ for this. Which brings up the topic of how badly the City of Fairfield needs to hire a professional grant writer to bring in federal, state, and foundation money that's available for all kinds of things, but that we never see here because there's no one to do the research and write the proposals.

I was surprised years ago that Fairfield isn't on the cutting edge regarding ADU's.
