S5:Episode 10-Tool Shed/Engine Room Upgrade.
When my laptop went down last fall and I lost some episodes do to my faulty understanding of cloud storage, I knew I needed to take some time and do something different that would improve the shop operation. Something that has needed doing for some time has been the construction of a dedicated engine room and now was the time to do it.

S5:Episode 9-A Tale Of Two Kitties Part 5-1989 Jaguar XJS "Big Red". Project Or Parts?
zhlédnutí 434Před 19 hodinami
In this episode, I will make a final attempt to get "Big Red", my recently acquired 1989 Jaguar XJS Rouge Edition, running and driving. The outcome will determine whether I have another project for 2025 or a rich source or Jaguar XJS parts. I need another project like I need another head (maybe that would be a good thing) but it's a pretty solid car that could be saved. But not by me, perhaps. ...

In this, Part 4 of A Tale of Two Kitties, we turn our attention to the 1990 Jaguar XJS Convertible in an attempt to get it running on all 12 cylinders. Actually, getting it to start on just six would help just to be able to move it around without towing it with my JD 316 lawn and garden tractor. We need to determine the status of Big Red, a 1989 Jaguar XJS Rouge Edition I acquired a few months back. The symptoms are common to the Marelli Curse. When you turn the key it turns over, hits occasionally, but won't run. In fact it's the exact same behavior my "90 Convertible exhibits. So maybe we can kill two birds with one stone here.

The key to getting this project, then 1998 Rouge Edition Jaguar XJS, underway is to be able to use a key to unlock the steering wheel and be able to turn the electrical systems on and off in an attempt to see if this car can be made to start. If so, it's worth going to the troubpe of getting a fresh title for it. If not it's a parts car. That would be a shame but we can't save them all. This wi...

The engine position sensor, front pulley senses TDC as a reference. The flywheel sensor is the engine speed sensor. If one is open, it's not going to work. However, the permanent magnet loses magnetism over time and hundreds of heat cold cycles until the signal is simply too weak for the ECU to recognize.

@@user-ht8iv9bi8b There are several YT videos on resealing or rebuilding the A6 compressor. The first thing that has to be removed is the clutch, which requires a puller - and technically is a different first op - which may have it's own video. That's as far as I've had to personally go with compressors. Beyond that is the extraction of the OE seal (which IDK how hard that is) and then install of new seal and oRing - the seal requires a tool to insert and turn it AFAIKnow. SammyVista72 on YT shows a partial re-seal but not the clutch removal. Probably a good idea to review several videos. There is a clutch puller and install tool which you *might* be able to borrow from the local parts store, otherwise you can find it on one of the big online markets. Probably the same for the seal install tool (which I've never used.)

What else could cause this issue on A bank are: throttle body plates out of sequence or dirty, faulty O2 sensor, leaky FPR - the vacuum control ties into the A bank intake; vacuum leak in the 40 sec timer start assist system - I had a hole rubbed into a vacuum tee on the back bottom side of the intake connecting the thermo switch with the vacuum solenoid; there's also a vacuum circuit that switches the smog pump system; leaky injector(s), vacuum leaks in the intake and exhaust system. If I remember correctly the coolant temp sensor in A bank also controls the ignition and fueling; wrong or faulty thermostat. The vacuum signal for the MAP sensor in the ECU also ties into the A bank intake. It would be nice to find out how to connect the Marelli system to a software on a laptop to be able to see fuel trims and other parameters.
