Looks like you hopped ahead of my son (Chesnut) since he is doing an off-PCT road hike from Crater Lake around the East and up to Shelter Cove. Thanks for the footage of the lake - looks spectacular. He's still on a continuous footpath but I suspect that will get interrupted at some point in OR, or WA with all the fires.

I am one of your cancer "stalkers". I am lucky and am well enough to be active, still. So, I was hiking over the Baldpates in Maine today and felt like dirt. It was just a day and I actually thought, stop being such a wimp as I thought of you on the PCT. I just got home to this video. Hope you get back on trail fast. You inspire me to drag my sorry stage 4 colon cancer arse onto a long trail. I commented before and felt like I sort of "cancer splained " you in regard to my immunotherapy question. Sorry about that! I am lucky enough to "qualify" for it, but I am not sure it is working all that well.

I knew I should have left this comment. : Metam Sodium (the Chem that spilled into the Sacramento River in 1991) decomposes, when diluted with water, to methyl isothiocyanate [MITC, a lacrymer and moderate poison] and/or hydrogen sulphide (a highly poisonous gas). ...(Also provides a statement related to decomposition with acids). ... When treated with water or heated to decomposition, this product will give off toxic fumes of MITC, hydrogen sulphide, and nitrogen oxides. If treated with strong acids, fumes of carbon disulphide and monomethylamine will be given off." {The MSDS sheets for the chemicals, one of which was published in Australia} because I did read this article {from SFGATE newspaper : Northern California officials issue toxic algae warning for rivers and lakes By Amanda Bartlett,Senior ReporterAug 4, 2024 } "Northern California authorities issued a warning Friday urging people to avoid swimming in rivers and lakes if they encounter slimy layers of dark green or brown scum floating on the surface or a pea soup-like murkiness to the water - signs of cyanobacteria."

Great job of actually showing the highlights of the trail. Many PCT CZcamsrs just show their face as they talk, and talk, and the upside down view of their legs as they hike, but you keep the commentary to a minimum and give a really good sense of the terrain and views that you are encountering.

Google maps says the "Shelly Fire" is only 66% contained. That is the National Interagency FireCenterthat apparently couples with Google maps. Calfire relays that the Shelly fire is 92% contained. When I worked in the national parks[circa 2010, 2016], the weather usually tended to be a median of 2-4 reliable, frequently used sources. If there was any average above 20%, there was some precipitation, above 40%, and definite rain then and there. California State Agencies usually supercede federal and international standards... From where i am in so cal, Google also relays that there are a bunch of "small" fires along the trail in Oregon; whatever that means, Calfire generally doesn't cover that section

What?! The PCT doesn't go to Summit Lake, and that's the campground you were at in Lassen.

My son's crew has been able to go all the way to Etna - getting in today (7-31-24). Beautiful stretch from Mt. Shasta to Etna that they are enjoying with minimal smoke issues from the Shelly fire.

I know your videos are delayed a few days but have you guys had to deal with the Shelly Fire yet? I saw on HikingDancer's videos that they did a complete reroute where they had to do considerable road walking. They mentioned using an app called Gaia (sp?) to create their route plan. Hopefully you can stay safe!
