RICOH GR IIIx - HIGASHIMON STREET [東門街] in SANNOMIYA [三宮] (Aged Print)・JAPAN
This Photowalk takes place in Higashimon Street (東門街) in Sannomiya (三宮). Higashimon Street is one of the major night life districts of Kobe (神戸) with many restaurants and bars. The area is called Higashimon (east gate) because the area surrounds the east gate of Ikuta Shrine (生田神社).
I set my Ricoh GR IIIx in Snap Distance Priority to a Snap Priority Distance of 2m. The AE Metering was Multi-segment. I shot in JPG only (Aged Print).
I decided to show all the photos even though some should have been deleted because I felt it's important to always show the good, the bad, and the ugly (e.g., completely blurry photos) in my run-and-gun style photo walks.

Bit early for Higashimon 😊
Probably more difficult to take photos in the late evening.
@@camerabaka Not for a camerabaka Pro 😉
Do people u photo ever react to you?
Only with love and affection.
That was a nostalgic Photowalk! Shin-Kobe station really is one of the smaller Shinkansen stops, huh?
Yes, it's definitely the smallest Shinkansen station that I know in Japan.
Why the annoying stills? You are taking a video.
If you had taken the time to read the premise of the channel, the thumbnail, and the description, you'd have understood that the reason there are these annoying stills is that the channel is all about showing photography. I would love to do just videos as well, but for now, I'm concentrating more on photography. Thanks for watching!

@@Labyrinthianmaze Thanks for your support. Much appreciated!
Shioya is an interesting mix, with a fair amount of history and a veritable maze of small roads to roam up and down the hills. Nice walk, dude!
Well said! It's a relatively sleepy little unknown part of the Kobe area. It certainly has an understated charm.
Why is it called a museum? The food doesn't look petrified
Who knows?! The food displayed in the windows are plastic models of the actual dishes though.
Is it worth going ?
It's worth going if you're in the area.
Wow look at all those shops and birds?
You should come and see for yourself!
Your photos come alive when the subjects are closer to the camera which separates them from the distortion of the wide angle lens. They blend into the backgrounds when they are about 7m - 10m away. Then the photos become too 'snapshot'.
I agree. I find the GRIIIx is better for street photography because it allows you to get closer to the subject. With the GRIII, you need to get out of your comfort zone in order to make a more interesting composition. It's learning experience.
Lovely captures! Stay safe on your walks!
Thank you, I will!
Street edition?
No, it's the Dairy Edition. Not that it's any different at creating images to the normal GR III. I like the aesthetics of the camera to look at though.
@camerabaka diary edition.. 🥰🥰 yes I love the aesthetics too
You could make 1000 videos of the underground Umeda area alone 😊
You`re absolutely right! It's a never-ending maze that seems to be in a constant state of change.
Umeda is so different now compared to when we were young 😂
Yes, it is. So much of it is new to me.
Have you been down to the central park area and seen the new cafe and beautiful lawns ?
No, I haven’t but I’ll check it out when I can. Thanks for the suggestion!

Is this look a photo recipe? Mind to share it?
Yes, it is. The recipe is “Aged & Faded” found in the Ricoh Recipes app.
@@camerabaka Thanks. At the start was not my fav, but after some pictures it growed on me.
It's an acquired taste I guess. I like experimenting with the different looks. Some work better than others. The RR (Ricoh Recipes) are fun to work with.
@@camerabaka Yes. I tryed some and got to the conclusion that some times ones work better than others. It differe to mutch for my taste. I've been to that jinjya.... Long time ago....1995... After earthquake
You’ve got to get back over here. Shrines and temples are so amazing to visit.
Did ya go to the onsen or sento
Absolutely! I love hot springs.
Looks like a cool place
Yes, very cool. You should try it.
When did you go there !
I stayed there overnight on May 9th. Beautiful area. I’d really love to go by the Kawasaki VN2000 next time!
Facinating castle I had not heard of before! Thanks for sharing :) the 4k video looks great BTW from the action 4 - I have the pocket 3, but I think in good light like you have here, I really love the HD all in focus look, might have to pick one of these up, or the 5 when it comes out. Do you do much photography with your gh6? I know its quite a bit bulkier, but it looks like from your description you have a good selection of lens for it - I have not tried panasonic as I mostly use the ricoh and an olympus - but have been tempted by a lumix for the better video and also maybe photography.
Amagasaki Castle is an obscure one for sure. The DJI Osmo Action 4 is superb. If you’re shooting in daylight, which I mainly do, the footage is sublime. I really love the magnetic mount, especially as I ride a motorcycle (different YT channel) and like the ease of transferring it to other mounts. I used to have Olympus gear but have sold it all. Awesome system for travel photography! I’ve never shot even one photo with the GH6 because I bought it specifically for video. That said, I’m confident it’d take stellar photos. I still own a mint Nikon D700 (you can still find new ones here in Japan) with a bunch of lenses. I absolutely love this camera and like that it’s dedicated for photography. I also recently received a brand new Pentax K-1 Mark II and a Pentax 35mm f2, along with a 50mm f1.4. I picked up an adaptor for the K-1 II so that I can use all my exquisite Nikkor D lenses. I hope to start doing photowalks with these cameras soon. I have trips to Australia, Thailand and Vietnam lined up for this year. Of course, I’ll be trying to get around Japan as much as possible.
@@camerabaka oh man that sounds awesome, enjoy your travels :) The k1.2 looks amazing!
Cool to see a different technique being used from most - I have not tried shooting street with shutter priority - Ill have to try it out sometime on the GR - have you tried other modes with a min shutter speed and found that shutter prio works better for your style?
Thanks for tuning in and commenting! It's appreciated. Recently, I've been using 'P' mode and adjusting the aperture to suit the situation as I see it. As a rule of thumb, more depth of field is preferred in street photography (they say), but sometimes, for artistic reasons, etc., having some bokeh makes for a more interesting image. I had a quick peek at your channel. Looks great! I'll definitely check it out more. Cheers!
@johneather I love using P mode with A shift, it's become my goto! Not sure if u know but you can set the program line to have p mode favor deep normal or shallow focus also.
@@BMadPhoto Yes, I've definitely seen that option. TBH, the scope of control with this little camera is overwhelming. That's a big part of why I use 'P' mode: keeping things simple so I'm focused on taking photos. I'll definitely try some more experimentation. The 'snap focus priority' mode is excellent in good light for me.
Thank you enjoyed your video and love the colour recipe
I appreciate your attention. Thanks for watching!
Was the deadcat attached to the mic? There seems to be a lot of wind noise in the recording.
No, I was just using the internal microphones on the DJI Osmo Action 4. I’ll need to address the sound in future videos. Thanks for pointing it out.
Kobe!! I used to live there..... great memories
So cool! It’s a great little city and so convenient for travel.

Do you try to get blurry pictures on purpose?
Sometimes, but not usually. I try and let the camera take care of everything as much as possible.
So much variety of food
Yes, Japan is a foodie’s heaven!
Osaka has changed a lot over the years .
Yes, it’s underground network of restaurants and shops is largely unrecognizable when compared to the first time I visited.

Awesome! Never seen one of those before.
That place looks like from the 70s
Yes, I like the retro feel.
Do they change all that food every day? Who eats it?
I think they have to change it everyday. A lot of tourists, office workers and shoppers love coming here.
Where are any people
They are probably all working. This is not a high profile tourist destination.
