Fuel on the ground like that. Environmental contamination. When I have to I drain mine as much as possible into 5gal buckets and try as much as possible to keep it off of the ground. Can't be perfect but at least we try instead of just directly on the ground. Bod Move!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You might have a collapsed fuel line with a pinhole in it so would be sucking hose flat and drewing air into filters

I did this to a 170 Franklin years ago. It was a 6000 winch. Basically, it's the same. Those winches if im not mistaken from back in the D turbo days got their pressure from the transmission. I remember we had a hard time getting the pressure right on the winch. If its not right there is a little round plate on the side of that winch over the brakes that has three bolts underneath through a flat piston with quad ring. It will pop the heads off them bolts so hard it will bend that cover plate and start leaking. We ended up having to switch to a 2 stage pump different than Franklin's winch pump. It would still pop those bolts, but only about once a year maybe. I have a couple of those 4000 winches now but they are on JD skidders. I have the manual on those winches too. They aren't very expensive. The 4000 thats on the 640L Deere doesn't even have a drive shaft. It runs on a hydraulic motor mounted right where the yolk would be. What you are doing is a royal pain. My dad and I and a friend of his who worked on equipment for a living did it when I was a teenager and im now 48. So I have forgotten about all of it. But when you get it right it's worth it. That skidder logged with that winch about 25 years after that before getting retired. It would still log now with a little tlc. It has a 6bta cummins aftercooled and powershift. It will pull so hard the arch is bent from backing up to trees pulling. You can put on a brand new 3/4" swedge cable and tie a knot and back a fender up to a tree and hook it to anything and it will pop that new cable like dental floss. Never have had to do anything much besides put brakes in it once and change those 3 bolts through that piston plate I was talking about a few times. The 6000 winches had a few heavier parts internally than the 4000. The 6000 is a little tougher but the 4000 operates better. The 4000 is tough though, because the 640L weighs 45,000 pounds and has over 250 hp. An average drag for it is 2,000 feet plus. And that 4000 does great! Good luck. Our hardest obstacle was getting the hydraulics right because we couldn't supply it the way JD did. Thats how I remember it anyway. Oh yea.... there is a stand pipe in the side of those winches that has an O ring. If it leaks it will drain the Hydraulic oil into the transmission over night and if its not plumbed right the winch won't suck it back up.

It sounds like your push pump is dying. I ran into the same problem with my skidder. Now it runs like a brand new machine

Why did you not catch that fuel in a pail vs,s dumping it on the ground? Some land owners would send you packing and our state frowns terribly on that.

If that junk was in the tank you might also check the injectors that might have gotten clogged with that mud.

Thanks for the vids!! once you get the skidders bugs worked out she will be a good unit for a long time. No electrical problems ect. The taco clip was funny too!! If your fuel filters were empty and under pressure your injector pump and injectors should be fine. Good luck with it and your other projects.

Had a john Deere tractor doing that and after trying everything the problem was a stick in the fuel line and we never could figure out how it got in there

Looks to me like some smart arse dropped a handful of dirt in your tank with a few sticks for good measure. We made all of our tanks lockable now, but of course it only keeps out the honest criminals. Were you missing any Diesel from the tank? Often they siphon out Diesel and put a handful of dirt as a gift for the free Diesel they have just stolen.

had a loader from a friend messed up when he came to load some long poles for me vandalised they scooped up mud and stones and dumped it into his hydraulic tank had to dump the tank 50 gal of oil then bleed all the cylinders what a mess did the same to his skidders just down the rd

That sucks guys, I'm a firm believer in locking the fuel tank,I always had a lock on my 240a,I know a lock only keeps the honest folks out, but cheap insurance

There's a 90 at the top of the tank straw. It gets plugged up. Blow out the line back towards the tank.
