I've been working on some cage-style rat breeding racks. Coming up with new stuff is always a work in progress full of trial and error. This is what I have so far. What do you think??

    Freaking selfish. For one, that cage looks shit and the metal bottom must make their feet sore and number 2, there are enough rabbits in the world that are not being looked after so why create more? People can adopt a rabbit, rather then get one from a greedy breeder.

  • @SuperNova-..-

    Okay. I need help!! My dog was curious about a certain area in the backyard, covered mostly by leaves and inorganic materials, mostly shielding that area covered by leaves. But. I let her out yesterday morning, and low and behold she has a tiny rabbit in her mouth. The baby rabbit had some injuries. But I put some gloves on, and put him/her back into the little cubby/hole with his brothers & sisters. I thought about moving them to the front yard, away from my dog (dutch Sheapard), but then worried their mamma wouldn't find them. Instead I guarded the area more with ground stakes and other stuff to keep my dog out. Anyway, just hoping you might offer tips. I don't know if the mamma came back yet, or how long they stay incubated like that in a cubby area. How often do they nurse, etc.. Was also afraid maybe the mamma came back but was startled by any smell, etc. I never touched them w/out gloves, I read that bc this happened once before in the front yard, almost ran a small nest of them. That time I had to move them. But never leaned what became of them. Thanks !

    • @OddPaw
      @OddPaw Před 5 měsíci

      Mom usually only nurses 1-2 times a day. Keep your dog away from the area for 4 weeks and they should be gone by then. Your scent shouldn't deter her from coming back, you can carefully check on them once a day for the next 2-3 days to make sure they're still being fed, but most likely they will be fine. Some places won't take wild rabbits into rehabs, but you can always call and ask if they start to look sickly. One thing to check, also, is if they have a white dot on their heads. Since I'm not sure how old they might be, the white dot is referred to as a "milk spot" and fades away as the wild rabbits wean off their moms.

    • @SuperNova-..-
      @SuperNova-..- Před 5 měsíci

      @OddPaw Thanks for the reply! Well, to give you a reference, they don't have their eyes open yet. I'd imagine that's indicative of nursing age, but I'll look tomorrow-as I've lost the day light for today. It didn't look like the leaves had been moved from when I re-covered them. I did barricade the nest a little from my dog, but it's stuff a rabbit could get by/under. That won't cause the mamma to stray will it? Just trying to protect them. Rehab? Like animal shelter? Thnx! Btw, how can you tell if they've been fed or not? Thanks again for your response! We have SO many rabbits in this area, I have to be careful doing yard work bc I never know where a mama has left a nest of bunnies.

    • @SuperNova-..-
      @SuperNova-..- Před 5 měsíci

      @OddPaw I have another update/ question for you. I've been able to keep the baby rabbits safe by building a baracade of sorts with materials their mamma rabbit could pass through, but would keep my dutch Sheapard dog out of. All was going well until two nights ago, when my dog unfortunately killed the mamma. It was terribly sad to see. I let my dog out around supper time, when I went to call back in, I opened the door and she was dragging the mamma rabbit in her mouth! My Shepard is 4.5, and has never attempted to bring a rodent or anything else she's killed into the house, so it was especially heart breaking bc I instantly knew it had to he the mamma. Obviously I can't know for sure. I attempted putting some leaves above the nest/den area to see if I could identify their mother coming back to feed (if it somehow wasn't her my dog killed), but couldn't be certain. So! Long story short. The next morning after letting my dog out and watching her closely, then letting her back inside. I came back out to check on the bunnies, when I did I heard one hopping around outside the den. This was exciting and worrisome, bc I knew my dog was just out there and was astonished she didn't smell or hear the bunny. I chased that little bunny for a couple minutes, finally got it back with its siblings. Anyway, I've put them into a big plastic bin with a towel at the bottom, then placed their nest materials in with it, and placed it in the front yard. No way Im changing my dog eating those bunnies. Finally to my question, then I'll leave you alone-I promise. I know they can't stay in that bin, bc they're too young, and also too old. At best they're probably 2 weeks old, and that's a stretch bc I found them 8/9 days ago. Can I let them go now into the free or will they be easily spotted and eaten by a predator (not my dog). I will try and build then a nest in the front, but dont know what else to do.

      You don't have to use the wheels, but the base and bottom or the cage require that lower part to be assembled. I mean, it's heavy enough you could probably just set the cage on the floor but the door latches would possibly cause issue or make the lower doors unuseable.
