I know everyone is mentioning Mitchum and Kerr but plz check out Red Buttons: great in his day, wonderful dancer, has a rich catalogue of work in movies and on stage.
He and ski were in winds of war together which I watch often. Love Robert Mitchum. I don't call him an actor, I call him a becomer. He becomes the part and doesn't have to act
Mr Mitshum is soo alike..have soo much resemblens to my dear Onkel Thoralf S....my mothers brother..glad therefore to see mr Mitshum. My uncle died in the 1980th...and was a Christian believer some years before he died. THANK GOD for that. My Grand.mother prayed for the whole Family A wonderful Family had..My mother was a lovely humble woman that told me about Jesus Christ. Amen for that❤
My grandfather said the grounds as you had mentioned as well, he said Mitchum was an much better actor then he had proclaimed in his words Mitchum said….. “I have an greater respect for an man digging an trench than an person asking for an hand out”….. He Mitchum was an man of men…. ✅⌚️🎉. An good time piece for are generation…..👋🗣️💕💯🎉.
I am very moved by the film and many of the comments. I was born when the Allies troops arrived in Rome in 1945. My family was against Mussolini and fascism so they were persecuted but I feel sorry and embarassed only thinking Italy was on the wrong side. Thanks to every single man who came to fight in Europe for make the people free from those horrible dictatorships❤❤
And after this war we were closed behind the curtain. Stalin received the moral right to evict peoples, to shoot even war heroes without trial. Any hope of change has disappeared. And the West nurtured a monster that Hitler couldn’t hold a candle to. Entire nations, including mine, have disappeared from the planet! languages, houses, graves. Memory! disappeared
Very heart warming. My father flew spitfires out of Lincolnshire while in the RCAF. Makes me want to go back like in the movie. Truly the greatest generation they were.
I loved this about as much as I did Heaven Knows Mr. Allison. The two had a genuine and deep friendship that lasted until he passed in 1997. Both, especially Deborah Kerr, were 2 of my fav actors.
Reunion at Fairborough (TV Movie 1985) - imdb 6.6 World War II vets travel to England for a reunion at their old base. Once there, one (Robert Mitchum) rekindles an old romance with an old flame (Deborah Kerr).
I work at Cambridge American cemetery, which was used in this film. We have two senior staff members who were there when those scenes were filmed there, they remember during breaks in filming sitting chatting to Robert Mitchum in the cellar under the chappel. The cemetery is worth visiting, even if it is just to chat to the guys who met the cast of the film.
I remembered this movie and just recently saw it on youtube. It is one of my favorites. Both Robert Mitchum and Deborah Kerr had such a wonderful chemistry together and their movies were always great, especially the Sundowners. Also I have always had this THING😄 for Deborah Kerr. She was just such a classy beautiful woman.
I am 70 years old. My mother had a half-cousin that was a bomber pilot for the RCAF then after the USA entered the war, transferred to USAAF 918 bombing group. I got to read a photostat of his diary and how scared he was many times over the target. He managed to survive the war.
My dad was a gilder pilot in World War II. He signed up the day after Japanese bomb Pearl Harbor. He has a brother who was a fighter pilot buried in the English Channel and another one that was with the navy.
I saw this film when it come out. I was the same age as the anti nuclear grand daughter. Most young people at the time had the greatest respect for what Americans did during the war. It was only the left wing CND types who harboured a grudge. They should have moved to Russia to live in their imagined socialist paradise. They never seemed to protest outside Russia Embassy. After all, it would be Russian bombs killing them, and not US ones.
💕👍 nice..... born 45 in wiesbaden.... we kids , 5 or 6 ys of age, strolling through the city, saw gi‘s on trucks, throwing hersheys, popcorn, chewing-gums and comics to us.....for us, americans were angels, bringing gifts on trucks.... got my first comic: hopalong cassidy....🤣🤣🤣 still love the USA 🙋♀️🇩🇪 funny, how this works....
It was excellent. A reminder of the importance of the people and humanity for saving this planet. We are now awakening to the lies and who is responsible for wars and everything else.
Robert Mitchum and Deborah Kerr at their very best. I had the pleasure of working with Mitchum as an actor in Hollywood near the end of his career, and he was a joy to behold. Casual, genuine and a force of nature. He was not only a remarkable actor, but also a fine human being. They don't make actors like him anymore.
@Meister, Very true. Not the usual Mitchum performance. It shows how he can play a low key, sensitive type of character. Mitch is always a joy to watch. All best wishes.
Great movie! Stimulating so many emotions and to see first class actors such as Robert Mitchum and Deborah Kerr makes this movie a grand classic! Congratulations to the producers and entire cast. Well done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Heart worming for this viet vet who will ne er have nothing like this whoswife left me yrs ago. Good story tho
¡ Qué pena , todos adorando a los actores y nadie dice siquiera el nombre de la pelicula 😢😢😢😢
How many war veterans have held a gun like Mitchum does in the first scene? Few understand the trauma they have endured.
Again !! so wonderful !! Always love this film.I am 81 so alive !! in WW 2 xx
Wonderful film, I thank you very much for posting this. Such a brilliant cast of esteemed actors 💝💛🩷💝

Never forget...they gave their lives so we could be free. Thank you for your unselfish service and may God bless you always. RIP.
Nobody is free today. But great bravery!

Robert Mitchum and my dad went to Harding High School in Bridgeport CT. My Dad remembered him, Mitchum was a year older.
I see Herbert Wise is the director is he related to Robert Wise?

Both Debra Kerr and Robert Mitchum , were versatile actors. They are remembered with reverence and fondness.

Only 1/10 survived the war?.. that's not really true unless you were in certain bomb groups in 1943..
I think that was a Bronze Star
Well, that was a lovely film. Mitchum was great in both, but the acting generally was better in this than in the Winds of War.
Great movie! What a treat.
For what it's worth, in the beginning when he's contemplating suicide, he's drinking a Pabst Blue Ribbon beer. Pabst means Pope in German.

Glad you mentioned the sundowners. Beautifully Australian played by two yanks !!!😅😂 The shearing comp was so Aussie...
@@broderickwallis25 Thanks. However, I though Deborah Kerr was British. BTW, I just found out she was British, Scottish Born in Glasgow.

I’m 86, and that was right up there with the best film I’ve ever seen. RIP Robert Mitchum.
Such a sweet story.

Hollywood could take a lesson from them..
beaudare , thanks for comment
@meister, Many thanks for your note. All best.
@@BeauDare-ov7py lovely movie, not as usual "heroic" in the way Mitchum & Kerr did it in former decades , but so lovely here ....
