In 1877, more precisely in April 1877, Romania allowed the troops of the Russian Tsarist Empire to pass through its territory to fight against the armies of the OTTOMAN Empire located on the southern bank of the Danube river. The RUSSIAN Tsarist Empire did not want Romania to enter the war, not wanting it to participate in the peace treaties for the division of territories, but the Russians encountered strong resistance, suffering heavy losses in repeated assaults, and not being able to advance in the Balkans, they requested help from Romania. In Romania, the mobilization of the troops was declared and approximately 120,000 Romanian soldiers attacked several fortifications of the OTTOMAN Empire. On 28 November 1877, Plevna capitulated, and Osman Pasha handed over the city of PLEVNA, its garrison and its sword, to the Romanian colonel Mihail Cerchez. The war continued in 1878, and our BROTHERS from the Balkan peninsula (Bulgarians, Serbs, Greeks) were able to regain their independence from the OTTOMAN Empire.
