Memories. I was part of the =SA= clan, called Hunter X and I played solo I was top dog named President Grey. I knew all the best spots and was a BOSS. Mini gun was my preference as human and Runner was my preference as ALIEN. Love this game!!!!

I would say as a multiplayer game AVP 2 is probably better than AVP (2010) but I think the majority of people would agree that AVP (2010) has a better art style with a terrifying and unsettling atmosphere to match. Not to say that there isn’t something special about the atmosphere of AVP 2 as well. AVP 2 has a cold sterile feeling to it. It’s quite unnerving. In contrast AVP (2010) has a very dirty and lived in feeling to it. A universe caked in rust and mechanical decay. Both games are definitely special in their own ways.

*How to play it now???*

I'll never forget how blatantly overpowered the Marines and Corporals were in this game, specifically with the heavier weapons, which everyone can use and some classes even spawn with them. It takes a tenth of a second to turn a xeno pouncing at breakneck speed into mince meat (seriously, slow down the footage and see for yourself). Human characters dominate in claustrophobic maps like this (which goes against every Alien movie ever created) because they can just sit back in a choke point and murder anything that dares pass through and there are no flanks. Human characters also wreck in more open areas because the Predator cloak kinda sucks when not standing perfectly still in a dark corner (again, this is the complete opposite of every Predator movie where you never know whether the hunter is close by and if he is, where exactly he is). There really are no branches for the Preds to hide on (besides in the first level in the Predator campaign where you the unarmed civilians can still see through your Chinese-made cloak). At least the Yautja have some bulk, can snipe, have mines and have the stun alt-fire on the plasma pistol. The iconic plasma caster is only useful when fully-charged but at that point you're stuck with the weapon with the slowest draw and holster time and if someone gets up in your grill or gets the jump on you, a fully-charged plasma shot from up close turns you both into gibs. Humans dominate open maps because they can see the xenos approaching even without the motion tracker and because sniper rifles exist. They can try to overwhelm you by hiding around objects on on some weird wall or jump at you like they're on cocaine but guess what? Grenade launchers exist (with oh so many types of grenades) and again, everyone can use them and some classes spawn with them. Hell, the standard rifle even comes with its own nade launcher. Unless the xeno player can outplay and confound the Marine/Corporal player with speed in a one-on-one, the former is toast in an instant. When it comes to camping human players in a safe room with only one exit through a choke point, the only hope the xenos have is to zerg rush, throwing their lives away hoping to, at most, get a hit in on one of the human players before respawning and trying again. This only becomes more effective on Survivor mode which I realize is the whole point and appeal of the mode but it feels like the xenomorphs were balanced around this mode which nerfs them in the other modes.

I played this religiously until the dedi servers got shut down. Are the dedi servers back up? I've got over 1000 hours on avp2010 aswell. I was known as arguably the best marine player in the world (Tyranus)
