I use to subscribe to you Sal. But you kept calling what happened on Jan. 6 as an Insurrection. So being tired of hearing that lie, I unsubscribed.

It's such a shame so many Malls are closed or closing, It Wasn't just about shopping it was about socialising, a lot people say amazon and online retail is to blame but it's also a lot of the stores having to pay overpriced rent, people not having as much disposable income, increased crime, the crash of 2008, the lockdowns of 2020, also there are a lot of areas which built too many malls in close proximity which caused over saturation, bit like Starbucks. I just hope they find good uses for Malls that are closing as so much time, effort, and money went into building these Malls.

I searched for Sal abandoned, and this wasn't even in the results. I clicked on a video from half a year ago, clicked on the channel under that video, clicked on videos, and lo and behold, you'd uploaded this video 5 days ago. Excited to watch! Big fan! 👍

Hey, thanks for visiting the dead malls in my home state! I went out to check em out before and its so interesting to see what once was and what time does to things, but also what condition its left behind in as well as what people who come after leave behind. I appreciate this kind of cataloging that preserves its existence.

I live on the other side of Houston now, but growing up, this was my mall! We would play at the arcade, have birthday parties at physical whimsical upstairs, eat dinner at Casa Ole, and see a movie. That was one heck of a Saturday right there. They had those water features at the food court. I remember everything about this mall. I have heard it is completely gone now, but I can't bring myself to go by and see an empty field. Sad. There are so many great memories there.

This is the latest on the site, which still sits abandoned and construction fencing sitting around it.

Oh, man, this brings back memories. I spent a lot of time at Westland as a kid in the 80s.

Man, I loved going here growing up. Sad it's gone. My friend and I still joke about this one Chinese restaurant in the food court that had the best red honey chicken ever made.

A lot of these malls were developed using mostly debt. This is where using the most fancy anemities cost the most. That is an expense that never diminishes. That would have now been like cash now...

Greens point was really the only Northside mall in the 80s until Deerbrook and Willowbrook opened. Was a fun place to watch the girls and we never felt danger. It was done by the late 80s though. The area had already begun to change and started to be called Gunspoint. Like a lot of areas in Houston the over building of apartments coupled with the oil bust did the area in economically.

Wow. This was the closest mall to me growing up and I can remember when this was the "new" mall across the road from old Piqua Mall. Now that place had character.

The elected politicians in Baltimore don’t care about the average law abiding citizens. They are too busy giving the youth a free pass to commit crimes. This is what happens when only 21% of registered voters showed up at the polls. It’s a damn shame. Baltimore deserves better.

Watching this in 2024, the question about if any malls have calmed you down really struck me, as back in 2021 my mother passed away. I was only 12 and was really starting to get into the dead mall scene. I saw a video about the forest fair village aka Cincinnati mall a month or two prior, and it was a weekend in summer where I had nothing to do. Me and my dad decided to embark on the hour and a half journey over to FFM and we went into the Bass Pro Shops. We walked around for a bit, not finding any clear entrance, so we decided to leave. While we were walking back however, two things happened. One was that my dad was stopped by this timeshare lady and we ended up getting a very very cheap trip to florida, My mother lived in florida for a long while so of course this reminded me of her. After that however, we ended up grabbing some things and we went to go check out. The lady at the counter overheard us talking about the fact that we hadn't found the entrance to the mall yet, so she directed us to the right place. Of course I was super excited about this and walking through that mall changed some things for me majorly. It was the first ever near abandoned mall I visited and with my mom's death a month prior, it really helped calm the fact that she wouldn't be here with me anymore, in a place that was abandoned after being abandoned by a loved one a month prior makes you feel sympathy for the building a little. The space made me feel as if I wasn't alone, in a space where you were almost certainly guaranteed loneliness. In 2022 the mall officially closed due to fire hazards and I literally cried when I found out the news. This amazing behemoth that helped me by a simple walkthrough of it was gone now and there was no way I could go back. Its like I lost a loved one, like losing a person who helped you through hard times. Hell even the trip to florida i scored by going there helped me tremendously due to the fact that it was yet another distraction from the world around me. I'll never forget my multiple trips to FFM, im gonna miss it so bad.

I could tell you filmed this video in 2021 haha. I used to work Security right along with the officer you met that night. Worked there from 2019-2022. I still remember the day they shut everything down for the pandemic. I worked all through it at that place. It's a shame you didnt get any footage of some of the Hiltons best ball rooms on the 3rd floor. The Hall of Mirrors being one of them.. also some of the floors on the Tower side had not been touched in over 40 years so going on those floors like the 40th floor was like a step back in time. There is still a 3rd building thats condemned by the city thats attached between Carew Tower and the Hilton that was almost hidden and nicknamed the "T- building". Never knew why lol there was even a racquetball court inside that building along with some very very old Victorian wheelchairs. In the LL on the Tower side where the office elevators are, there was a place called the Landmark room which was locked but it used to be a comedy room. Thats where a lot of the Asbestos and black mold was lol lots of little cool things about that building that not many people knew or will ever see. I ended up losing that job when Powers finally "sold" the building. Great building.. terrible ownership

My ex gf used to work at the cosmetics counter at elder beerman while she was going to college. I used to come in towards the end of shift but all the ladies were older that worked there they were all nice. I even jumpstarted her co workers car when it wouldn't start in the middle of winter. Those small memories just rush back. Sad fate.

Cincinnati is one of the coolest cities in America. If you are of a certain age most of your cherished childhood memories originated from there in Kenner Toys (Star Wars). It also has a incredible zoo in the middle of a neighborhood. The oldest professional sports team in the Reds, a really interesting abandoned Subway story annd - I could go on and on about the wonderful Queen City.

Grew up in that mall, during the late 70's and early 80's. It was a place to see....and be seen. We, (friends), would walk around for hours...scoping out the females. Then later in the evening...go watch a movie. I saw 'Star Wars' there in 1977, as a 10-year old, when it first came to theatres. Saw, 'The Bad News Bears', 'Smokey And The Bandit', and 'Close Encounters of the Thrid Kind', right there. It was a Dreamland for us teens. People walking around EVERYWHERE. The sights, the smells, the atmosphere...was an escape. We'd hit the record stores, and see what the latest Rolling Stones, and Journey albums were, and scrape together a few dollars to buy a slice of pizza at the FoodCourt. Then...if there was 50 cents leftover...hit the arcade, and play a game or two of pinball or Space Invaders. What fun it was growing up in that era...

really enjoy these videos. Sal makes a real effort to keep the viewer interested while giving well researched info. I went by the local Triangle Town Center Mall in Raleigh the other day for some nostalgia. Depressing actually. Its dead. 20 years ago, it will overflowing with life at all times of the day. Technology has put us in a stay at home lifestyle. Even these dead mall videos will soon be nostalgic themselves. All the best to everyone.

Heh heh, the MVCM helped 'kill' the Piqua East Mall, and it too was redeveloped. A hotel attached to a mall was a unique option in our area. I'm glad to see the mall has a next chapter! I 'binged' n all the Unicomm presentations. Love her! I'm glad that you're back, Sal.

JCPenny, The Trampoline Park and a fitness center are the last ones standing. The inside is in complete disrepair thanks to vandals. I'm not sure how long the Mall is going to last. I got my first job working at the Christmas and Festive food store in the Steeplegate Mall 1997. I did a few overnights as a security guard while Lenscrafters was getting renovated back in 2005. Really sad to see everything I loved as a kid die. Bear Right the giant burger King off 93 in Concord was another of my childhood go to places. I still remember the animatronic bears singing in the Cavern Critter Review. I have yet to find any video or still images of the old Bear Right before they closed it down to build a college out of it.

Growing up in the 90s and spending as much time as we did in malls.. I've been fascinated by all content creators who capture them... but yours are by far my favorite. The best use for these malls is for autocross events in their abandoned parking lots. Great story telling as always Sal.
