Is this bag discontinued ?
Ugh yes. I have no idea why. It's so sad. For now it's still easy to find on eBay and a few other sites. There are Facebook groups where people buy/sell/trade Filson stuff, those are a great option as well. Thankfully they sold this bag for a good 25+ years so there's a lot of them out in the wild that someone may decide to part with at any time.

Thank you! Planning to do an update soon. Here in the US they discontinued this bag but it's still available second-hand. I'm really sad about it though, so I hope they change their mind. There seem to be many of us that are fans on these bags!

Where did you buy it from?
I've been part of a few of the Saddleback Facebook groups for years. The main one is that Saddleback Leather Fan Group, but there's several where you can buy sell trade. I got this from someone who had bought two different colors right when the bag came out, and they only wanted to keep one, so they sold the other essentially unused.

Good patina on a Saddleback is like wear-and-tear on a good watch. If you're not using it, you're not owning it.
It would have been better if the quantum scenes in the oppenheimer trailer was used in the last inside part. But the zoom was really well done

underrated, this might blow up (no pun intended lol)
Oppenheimer is a masterpiece. My only peeve afterwards was thinking Nolan should have done something just like this rather than practical effects at the trinity test. We needed the scale and horror that your video here conveys (with that score!! Amazing!!) instead of a large explosion (not really looking like the trinity test at all IMHO...there's tons of actually footage from the event). I love that Nolan relies on practical, but he needed to do this for the moment instead. Aside from that Opp is perfect. Just imagine this for the test, then that ending.... Jeesh. Would have been astounding.
You know what else you did that was cool there? B&W. Think of that being in the film in that exact moment (would have been only one in B&W at the test scene in the movie)... "Strauss vision"/perspective. "The horror of the bomb was the arrogance, not the science" kind of thing. Would have been perfect.
the way it was conveyed in the movie was perfect. almost artistically. I really bealive it was meant to be seen in an artistic way, not to demonstrate the sheer horror of the explosion. it put you in the perspective of a commoner seeing the explosion right in front of your eyes, as it happened with the personel at the trinity test. also the subtle silence conveys the extreme power of the detonation. i wouldnt change a thing
@idekiarchives agree with all except just ONE thing... the visual of the explosion itself. The scene, the music, the perspectives... the sound, that quiet and the light... all perfect. Nolan is no doubt a genius. The moment is expertly handled. The ONLY thing for me was the explosion itself. I almost wish he would have just cut out the 2 or 3 truck out shots of the explosion and just not show it. It just didn't look like a 15-25 kiloton explosion. It looked like a large (bunker buster?) staged explosion a few hundred feet away instead of Trinity several miles away. The dream shots of the explosion earlier in the movie and in the trailer are astounding. Something like that on the screen for a fraction of a moment would have hit the mark for me. I agree on the art and the genius of everything else in that moment, and the movie overall.

Trinity test feels so magical, at that exact moment, man tapped into the basic resource of the universe, which is found in every single star... Nuclear Fission, man tapped into a territory which was thought impossible to ever acheive, but oppenheimer did it.

What's even crazier is that they thought it would actually destroy the world. They didn't know if the chain reaction would even have an end, and that it would engulf the world in flames

I'm listening to the Oppenheimer soundtrack and this scene from Twin Peaks The Return came into my mind and I had to allow myself the distraction of editing them together really quick. I'm sure it'll really help progress on my writing. Somehow.
time for a 5 year update!
I love this bag. I have the same one, same color and you can carry EVERYTHING in this bag. Get a small case for all your charging cables and throw it in there. Laptop, Ipad, Phone, Airpods, shades.....(there's a bunch of small medium and large pockets just in that front pouch alone). Also larger chargers can go inside the bag. I have a full size Apple keyboard with the number keypad that fits in there as well. Also the pockets on each side of the bag as mentioned, are deep and can carry to full size water bottles if necessary. It's one of the most usefull items I have and I love it

Is there a way to use the strap and carry the flight bag as a back pack? I have one and can't figure it out
I bet there's not a great way to do it. The only way I can think of would be to attach one clip of the strap to a bottom d ring on the back, run the strap through both handles at the top, and then attach to the other d ring at the bottom. There's only one shoulder pad though, so it wouldn't be super comfortable. And by running the strap through both handles, you probably wouldn't be able to easily open the bag while it's in backpack mode.

I haven't owned a slim version. Just from seeing the design and capacity I decided I prefer the size of the one I already have.

Yes I will! Probably around April again when it's been another year. At this point there isn't just a ton of change month to month, or even after 6 months. But I feel like yearly seems cool to be able to see a progression.

Regarding 5:17 What works for me is to turn the clasp around, so that the release catch is facing outward and not rubbing on the seams, with the smooth side of the clasp facing inward. This will minimise any damage to the seams from the clasp.

That's great! Glad you love it! I believe the bag wasn't released until 2018, because I bought mine pretty soon after they came out. Glad to know the video helped and didn't lead you astray.

Yes! Tobacco breaks in super nicely.
Great bag. Easy to add holes to adjust the strap more. I did it on my 257. You could use a drill or nail or maybe a friend has a leather punch. Enjoy.
